Resort Thread Disney's YACHT & BEACH CLUB Resorts

LIVE REPORT!!!!

I'm sitting at SAB while typing this. We've been here since 9:15am and it's a gorgeous day. It rained (ok, it poured) earlier this morning around 10:30 but now it's sunny and beautiful! We again had lunch from HH (cheeseburgers, pulled pork and a chicken sandwich). Yummy as always!

Dinner at Cape May was delicious! The only thing we tried that we didn't care for were the pistachio carrots. Those were different. But the pistachio cheesecake was out of the world! Delicious! Our waitress was excellent. My daughter was wearing her birthday button and our waitress brought her a cupcake and a birthday card signed by the Fab Five. So sweet!

The club level offerings are pretty much the same as last year's with the addition of grits for breakfast. The lounge is so much more spacious than it was previously. The CM who walked is to the fifth floor after getting off ME told us it's the largest CL lounge on property. Cool! Wait! There is s new potato chip they have too. The old one is still there with the dip. YUMMY!!!!!

Tonight we are going to MGM. Yay!
Thanks for the live report! I love hearing how you've been eating from HH. I imagine we will be doing the same, or grabbing some pies to go from the BW to eat. My DH keeps telling me that he wants nothing but pool time until 5pm :) Enjoy!!

Scott - thinking of you and keeping your family in my prayers. Unfortunately I AM at that stage with my mom. (My dad passed away in 1992 after a short battle with cancer). It is not an easy road

Looking forward to seeing you at BC. Are you staying CL?

Teena - and cherry pies and coconut juniors? Right? Just checking my Disney shopping list. . .

5 weeks frim today for us. 11 nights, 12 days of DISNEY Magic and BC Fun!

I prefer close to lobby which means close to elevators but lots of people prefer far away from lobby and close to Epcot. I never use balcony so that doesn't matter to me. Your view will be a roof most likely which is what I would book too since the only time I'm in the room is to sleep, shower or change clothes. I'd rather save money and book standard and spend that extra money on a super dinner at Artist Point!

Thanks for the quick reply! We typically request to be near the lobby as well because we like a quick walk to food, gift shop, etc. We usually always book standard views, except that we book pool view at ALK so we can be close to everything. If I ever have the money, I may have to spring for a savannah view someday. Although, DH is worried that I'll never want to stay anywhere other than BC again after this trip (I think he may be right). :goodvibes

:welcome:

I'll add you to the Be Our Guest list we keep on Page 1 of this thread.

:woohoo:

Full balcony, definitely.

Maybe upper floor. Not sure if work will still be going on in the Beach Club rooms in August, but they are going from the top down, and that would take you away from being near the work on the 2nd/1st floors. Plus, some of the Standard View rooms that look over the front entrance parking lot have a view of the Magic Kingdom fireworks and I would think the chance of seeing them would be better on a higher floor.

:thumbsup2

Thanks! This thread has been so helpful in planning our stay and it's gotten me even more excited than I ever thought possible.
I'm going to share this info with DH when he gets home from work. Seeing the MK fireworks from our room would be awesome!

I think I mentioned it in my Christmas trip report last year, that was right after things were finalized legally. A rough, rough Christmas for all of us. But things are much better now. The past year was really tough. But I feel like the kids and I have rebounded and found a rhythm. I'm working full time now after being a SAHM for 15 years, but Disney is still our happy place. :)

I knew you used to be a SAHM, and then you became and still are a travel agent!!! I'm so glad things have gotten better for you and the kids! And I'm Really glad you still go to ur a Happy Place!!!!

Hi all!
We are back from our 2 week WDW vacation that ended with a week at BC CL! It was an amazing vacation with many, many, many memories made and lots of pixie dust! After our week at the Poly CL (where we were upgraded to a LGV from GV at check-in - we could see the 4th of July fireworks from our patio!) We weren't expecting much in the way of upgrades... but we were pleasantly surprised with a 1 bedroom suite upgrade from a GV CL room at the BC! We were in room 3501 - so not on the 5th floor and quite a hike to the lounge and pool... they were doing construction on the 2nd floor under us (which is why they gave this room as an upgrade) - we did hear construction noise during the day - never before 9am and never after 4pm - it was noticeable but it was not constant - We had some issues with AC because the fuse was tripped and some issues on day 1 with our MB's (but it seemed like there were quite a few people with issues that day at the desk getting them resolved) - now, even with the "issues" that I mention, we weren't phased by any of it! We loved the extra space - we had an extra large balcony, we could see the Illuminations fireworks from one side of the room and the Frozen fireworks from the other side... they put drinks in our fridge for us on day 1 as well as fresh flowers - room was always cleaned nicely and quickly - turn down service was excellent as well - we loved SAB (of course!) and walking to Epcot and HS - we also enjoy walking over to the Boardwalk... the CL lounge was gorgeous and CM's there were extremely friendly - met Chris the chef and talked with him on multiple occasions - all the CM's were so approachable and fawned all over DD4! Loved the food there (better than the Poly food offerings we felt)!! Can't wait to start planning our split stay for next summer there again! LOVED it!

Let me know if you have any questions! :-)

Thanks to all on this board for your information and reports - I plan to hang around and continue reading this thread to get me pumped up for next summer!

Well I checked in at 1030 am today (7/16) and my room was ready 5836 (love when that happens especially when you take a 6 am flight to Orlando). I got the exact room I wanted, King Bed Club Level room with a balcony facing the pool area. The only thing I'm not a fan of is lack of dresser space, but I hung all my t-shirts up and that took care of that. The CL spread during the day isn't bad, but I'm interested to see what deserts they have at 8 pm.

Oh no, I'm so sorry to hear this about your Dad. Prayers are definitely on their way to you and your family!

Scott ...so sorry about your dad! I'll be thinking of you. Keep us posted!

Hugs to you Scott! Sending positive thoughts for your dad and your family!

:grouphug:

Thank you so much! It's much appreciated. I can clarify a bit more. Though it will be a triple bypass, there's really only one artery that's clogged to the point that it needs the bypass, but there are 2 others that are getting there, so the thought process is, "While we've got him open, why not?" This makes me feel a *bit* better.

No CL this trip...it's going to be a *Magical* trip again, and CL wasn't available. We're just happy to be coming! The "magical*-ness of it allows us to split-stay and try other resorts, so, we're starting off at CR, where we've never stayed before!
I'm working on my "Disney Pregaming," where I watch many of my favorite Disney movies. This morning, I discovered a hidden gem...."Flight of the Navigator," which I LOVED as a kid!
Tomorrow, I'm going to call my *Magical* agent and pay off our trip, and make our room requests (very simple, "Upper floor please" at both resorts!).

:offtopic:

I worked offsite today. This was my office:

And this was the view from my rope-making/shipyard class:

And no lie, when we were walking to the car, we saw bald eagles flying overhead!

Not a bad way to spend a day!

::yes::

How Americana of you! I need to book a field trip there with my children....maybe next school year?

 Sorry to hear that, but I will say that outcomes are really good for open heart. I've watched the specialty improve over the last 18 years since I've been in nursing. It's a tough recovery, I'm glad they caught the issue and they'll be fixing him right up. PM me for anything you need!

Oops...missed this one earlier! Thank you also! One of my dearest friends is a nurse, and she feels similarly. We live in Massachusetts, and though it will be performed off site, it will be a Mass General surgeon doing the surgery.

Sorry for all the :offtopic:-ness! I will say, very selfishly, that DP and I are currently talking about the timing of this at least putting us in a good spot, in that where we are not going away until 4 weeks from tomorrow, Dad should be long home and on his way to recovery, so we should be ok winging our way to WDW and BC!

Scott, just wanted to add my positive thoughts and good wishes for your Dad's speedy recovery. I may still be kind of new to the thread, but feel like so many here are now just good friends I haven't met. Take care.

I am in LOVE with those pistachio cheesecakes. My family loves Cape May Cafe and while they're still on their second helping of crab legs, I'm already going for the desserts. Many, many helpings of dessert.

And @Scott MC , add me to the list of people who are sending good vibes for a quick recovery for your dad!

I think you got those numbers mixed up ...there is no 5836 up there. Hope you like the breakfast too!

I admit my thread is pretty lame compared to Dee's. She is the queen! :worship:

:cloud9::cloud9::cloud9::cloud9::cloud9::cloud9::cloud9:

Well if Dee is the resort thread Queen you are definitely in her "court"!

Hi Princess P!!!!! Congratulations on all your hard work!

PS. TONGA TOAST is available every morning at the Polynesian Quick serve restaurant called Captain Cooks. It's located on the ground floor of the main house where the check in desk and restaurants are located. If you were going to the MK you could get up super early and cab it over to Captain Cooks for some early morning Tonga Toast, then hit rope drop at the MK.

PSS, sorry(not sorry) for all the YELLING!!!!

PSSSSSS , Scott! We are going to arrange to have you, JnJ Pants and the other people that are narrowly missing our trip dates locked in the Fantasy Suite until our arrival!

For my kids, just staying in any hotel is cool. So why not, and avoid traffic too? BONUS

Last year, we were at Poly CL, we were upgraded to LV CL upon booking...which tipped me off. I spoke with a reservation manager or some title like that she was amazing. And she basically said it will be a mess there. So after A LOT of changing (WL, BC, YC, WL, finally OKW), we decided to stay there next trip. Well, I did initially book Poly CL for this year but got cold feet, and changed to BC :) I'm super happy, mostly thanks to the peeps here. More than that, my hubs and kids want BC, and when my hubs wants a Disney resort I gotta give it to "Grumpy".

We'll likely stay at the hotel. It's just keeping the toddler entertained can be tricky when we don't have a fabulous splash pad or some other Disney entertainment for her. I already told the tween that we're going to bed at 8 that night, no arguments.

And I completely understand what you mean about keeping Grumpy happy. My husband loves AKL. I'm not complaining, it's a gorgeous resort. But I like trying different places. I think he was willing to go someplace else for our January trip, but I think he'd have been unhappy. So AKL it is. Well, AKV, really, since we have a two BR villa reserved for January. I think the space is going to spoil me.

Looks good! Less than a month 'til we get to WDW (CR...then BC beginning on the 19th)!

And I'm missing Dee, NinjaMom etc...by a mere 2 or 3 days. It's a real bummer! I do think I will get to see Robyn though and of course Teena!

Wheee! And I got this today...

If y'all could....would you keep my family in your prayers? My poor sister just got engaged at WL 2 weeks ago, and now we find out that a wee dizzy spell my father had on Sunday night has brought him to triple bypass and valve replacement surgery on Monday morning. My head is spinning. I'm having (for the first time) that uncomfortable, scary feeling that my parents are entering a place where I will need to step up and take care of them now. Sigh..

Scott - I saw your updates and wish your dad the very best of recoveries. It absolutely makes sense to clean it all out while they're in there. I think some of our days overlap. I would love to meet up with you guys if it's at all possible. I can likely convince my sister to watch the toddler for me so I can have a few hours of adult interaction, which would be divine!

Good!! One of these trips we will be CL again and I plan on oatmeal to start my day!!!

I'd be so upset if they got rid of the oatmeal. I don't know why, but it's much better at Disney than when I make it myself. I suspect that's because I'm not trying to eat it in my kitchen while someone is yelling they don't want pancakes, they want pop tarts. And Amara is making comments about the nastiness of bacon. Ugh.

Dee, your office view beats the heck out of mine.

Teena - we check into the BC on the 19th of August and we check out on the 23rd. Will you be there at all?
