Resort Thread Disney's YACHT & BEACH CLUB Resorts

Oops...missed this one earlier! Thank you also! One of my dearest friends is a nurse, and she feels similarly. We live in Massachusetts, and though it will be performed off site, it will be a Mass General surgeon doing the surgery.

Sorry for all the :offtopic:-ness! I will say, very selfishly, that DP and I are currently talking about the timing of this at least putting us in a good spot, in that where we are not going away until 4 weeks from tomorrow, Dad should be long home and on his way to recovery, so we should be ok winging our way to WDW and BC!
Not selfish, you want to be sure Dad will be good when you are away. Totally understandable. He will be in my thoughts and prayers

We'll likely stay at the hotel. It's just keeping the toddler entertained can be tricky when we don't have a fabulous splash pad or some other Disney entertainment for her. I already told the tween that we're going to bed at 8 that night, no arguments.

And I completely understand what you mean about keeping Grumpy happy. My husband loves AKL. I'm not complaining, it's a gorgeous resort. But I like trying different places. I think he was willing to go someplace else for our January trip, but I think he'd have been unhappy. So AKL it is. Well, AKV, really, since we have a two BR villa reserved for January. I think the space is going to spoil me.

Scott - I saw your updates and wish your dad the very best of recoveries. It absolutely makes sense to clean it all out while they're in there. I think some of our days overlap. I would love to meet up with you guys if it's at all possible. I can likely convince my sister to watch the toddler for me so I can have a few hours of adult interaction, which would be divine!

I'd be so upset if they got rid of the oatmeal. I don't know why, but it's much better at Disney than when I make it myself. I suspect that's because I'm not trying to eat it in my kitchen while someone is yelling they don't want pancakes, they want pop tarts. And Amara is making comments about the nastiness of bacon. Ugh.

Dee, your office view beats the heck out of mine.

Teena - we check into the BC on the 19th of August and we check out on the 23rd. Will you be there at all?
I fly out to help Jeanne on August 18 and will be back to work on the 30th.

Pas130 ... You have to eat at the Beach House ...and get the seafood brushetta ....and if you like Italian we went twice to the Bayou Tavern ... Wow is it ever good. We walked to the Beach House and ate dinner there 3 times!! The condo is wonderful ...we will be back every year!

Aw, I'll totally miss you. Well, that just means I need to come back to YC/BC, right?

Oh, and I traded in my Ford Flex for a new Ford Flex that seats seven. So I'm totally ready for that road trip. Whenever I can make one work...

Absolutely!!!!

I think you got those numbers mixed up ...there is no 5836 up there. Hope you like the breakfast too!

Yep your correct. It's room 5638. The bed is very very nice. Different people what different ideas on what they want in a room. To me I hate rooms that you barely have space to move around in. This room is very big and very nice. Sure you hear the noise during the day from the pool below, but it will be nice to go out in the evening as the sun is going down and relax with a drink on the balcony. I like that it's not the sliding glass door type of door out to the balcony, but just a normal slatted door.

It's been kind of a rough week for us here, but one big highlight of the week is that we were able to book our Fastpasses on Wednesday! :banana:We did manage to get most everything that we wanted, so we're pretty happy about that. Now, we can focus on planning the offsite/Sea World/Aquatica portion of our trip, and then we'll be all set. :goodvibes

In less than 2 months, we'll be on our way to Florida! :woohoo:

Scott MC-Sending good thoughts and prayers for your dad and for your family.

So besides Epcot, what are the best ts (not signature) in the area. This is for a family of 5 with 3 dd who are all beginning to try different things. Having said that I have a food intolerance so anything tomato based os out.

Tarak- you are so right. It can happen in an instant. We had so any adults watching the pool at our party and I truly believe it was a miracle that my son saw the boy at the bottom of the pool and pulled him up. It wS a "blind spot" from the sun. It wS a miracle that s cardiac care nurse was there to start CPR. HE HAD NO PULSE AND WAS BARELY BREATHING. It was a miracle that after being in a coma for 24 hours we woke up without any long lasting damage

We know how easily it could have gone the other way. The police detective kept telling us - you did everything right but accidents happen every day. Still. DH sand I felt like we were ready for a breakdown from the guilt

I wonder with all those assigning blame, didn't they ever lose track of their child for a few heart pounding minutes?

Thank goodness things turned out OK!

Yes to the losing sight for a few minutes-my middle was ~2 1/2 when we went to visit friends in TX-was visiting with our former neighbors-child came and got a bit of my apple. I made her chew and swallow in front of me-at least I thought she had. She took off with older sis exploring house and suddenly came running back to us from another room. She was running weird-like she was being pushed-she stopped in front of me and collapsed. She was blue. turned out she choked on that bite of apple. Thank heavens one of the hospitals I had worked at insisted ALL staff be CPR certified- and I managed to get the piece dislodged and she started breathing and pinked back up. I still remember screaming inside my head "NO" as all I could see was a cold/blue/lifeless child. I cannot even begin to imagine those parents of the child who drowned emotions and heartache...well actually I can but then all I want o do is curl up and cry for them...
So there is my bad mommy story where I was distracted and it almost cost me my child's life. It really can happen quickly. And I think most parents have a similar story where things turned out OK. Perhaps those who haven't yet experienced that heart stopping terror feel secure enough to judge...I don't know. As to the weird way she was running-I am not really religious at all but I do believe she had a guardian angel pushing her. If she hadn't collapsed in front of me we wouldn't have found her in time...

How about Sanna at AKL? Or Raglan Road at DTD? Maybe The Wave at Contemporary (have not personally tried this one).

Sorry for the DP. As far as I know, you don't have to order a meal for everyone. You can order one and split, or two and split it with three people. We have a reservation for me, my 12-year-old, and my 3-year-old. I really doubt my younger kid will 1) be able to wait until we get there to eat something, and 2) have a lot of interest in what's available. I plan to feed her a little something before we head out and I'll let her have as much of the bread/pastry plate as she cares to eat.

Dee - you should take a tour of the WL in August. The best way to see it is to take the bus to MK and then get on the boat to WL. You really need to see the lodge from the water. The boat is one of the best things about staying at the WL. Tour the lobby and go up to the fourth floor, which is actually the first balcony level above the lobby. There are lovely sitting areas around the lobby on that level, including a very comfy area with a sofa and fireplace, a huge balcony over the front door - looking at the parking lot, another balcony overlooking the courtyard and Bay Lake, and some displays of artifacts. In fact, there are artifacts hanging around all over the place. Then head off to the villas building and check out the Carolina Pacific room. It has memorabilia from Walt Disney's home, including one of the little railroad cars from the train he had at his California home. That room has the comfiest leather rocking chairs ever and the most whimsical firescreen in all of WDW. DH and I like to lounge around there, and we've even played a few games of Chinese checkers. :)

Then you can walk down the nature trail to Fort Wilderness and visit the horse stables and just basically check it all out. You can either go back to MK via boat, or hop on an internal bus if you want to see a little more of the campground. It really is an interesting way to spend time when you don't have park tickets. :)

And you may want to see the Wilderness Lodge before they tear the place up. They are rebuilding my favorite villas pool and adding 24 little cabins along the edge of the lake. The construction work starts oct 26th. :( The main building will be unchanged, thank goodness.

I love love love Wilderness Lodge. The lobby is simply amazing. Love exploring all the hidden seating areas and I love the landscaping. I'm so glad we stayed there in April!

Everyone eating breakfast at BOG, you get one pastry basket for every party of two. The pastries were very good! We considered sharing, but our girls are older and I'm glad we did not. Enjoyed it and I'd do it again!

Thankful for a happy ending story!
The people writing that kids should have swim lessons are still really bothering me. I had my 3 yo at swim lesson tonight and it was progress from last week but still baby steps here....it's very scary. He previously wouldn't go In at all, but last summer I went in after him when he tripped into a pool, I was fully clothed, and he was sinking. Water is serious and you have to be careful...this story hits home as I have a 3 yo boy. In some ways I wAnt to know more about what happened and in other ways I know it doesn't matter much the specifics. Very sorry for that family having to experience this tragedy on vacation at the happiest place on earth :(

Chocolate ...any type of chocolate .... That is so sweet of you!!!

14 days is super!!! I hope you are planning lots of SAB time. Its so very hot and humid. With 14 days, you can do parks early mornings or evenings to avoid that heat stroke weather!

Chocolate is the best! We have a ton of SAB time built in. DD fell in love with it during our girl's weekend last September. She insisted we stay at BC again! Let me know what days to look out for you from the 30th to the 12th.

BREAKING NEWS!!!!!

This is big!

Are you sitting down?

Guess what my husband and son just got from the takeout window at Beaches and Cream?

Milkshakes.

And they were able to use a SNACK CREDIT!

I guess that letter writing campaign was successful! If only they would allow the unwashed masses from SAB to shower in the spa/health club again.....

Looks like it's been confirmed that the BCV refurb has been delayed and there are currently no new dates for when the refurb will begin :(

A little disappointing since I was hoping to stay in a newly refurbed 1 bedroom villa for my honeymoon in April. So to my Disney pros out there, what would you do in my situation? Currently have a garden view at the YC booked for April 2016 for my honeymoon. When spring discounts come out in December we hope to be able to get a discounted room at the YC, BC or BCV. I've never been to Disney, she has never stayed at the YC/BC/BCV. What would you all suggest would be a better choice? A refurbed room at either the YC or BC? Or a 1 bedroom villa at the BCV? Like i've said previously in this thread our reason for wanting the 1 bedroom villa is because the larger walk-in shower, jacuzzi and larger space overall seemed more honeymoon-like. Would you all suggest though that a nicer refurbed room would out weigh these benefits for a honeymoon?

My mom and dad will be getting married on 9/6, and on there honeymoon from 8/29 to 9/8 at beach club deluxe room, which gives them club level. It was only $350 more than the standard and gives them a water view, that's for 10 nights. I can tell you what they think and how it goes. Mom and dad are getting remarried. I thought mom would pick BWI the little country cottage garden rooms, to me those seem perfect to me but she decided not to, don't know if you thought of those. For my mom I think it was the pool, she hates clowns, but maybe not. I just thought that room looks so cool for a romantic get away.
