Resort Thread Disney's YACHT & BEACH CLUB Resorts

Could someone please tell me if it's difficult to get chairs by the pool? Do we need to get there early? Are there many shaded areas or umbrellas available? We're going late September/early October. Do people do the chair-saving towel-placement thing early in the morning? I sure hope not.

We were there last September/October and there were plenty of chairs during the week, and we wouldn't get there until around 1 or 2 in the afternoon. The pool was actually very empty during the weekdays, the only day it got crowded and we had trouble finding chairs was on the Saturday of our trip.

One more thing--I'm traveling with my DD (13) and my DS (9) and a friend of the same age for each of them. I know I should keep the 9-year-olds with me, but do you think it would be acceptable to allow the girls their freedom within the resort? I'm quite sure they'd be safe, I'm just wondering if anyone would look askance at two 13-year-olds without parental supervision. They're very well-behaved girls.

Back when I was 13, and on my very first trip to the BC, my parents let me go off on my own at the BC during our trips, and I don't remember anyone ever asking me where my parents were and I never felt unsafe. Those times were actually some of my fondest memories of that trip! I would go down to the pool by myself a night to swim and no one questioned me ever. It was great!

I remember reading that children who are 14 and older don't need an accompanying guardian. Do CMs ever check this? My son is 14 but short and skinny so he looks younger* and I'm wondering if I should get him some sort of ID to prove his age.

*I tell him this will pay off when he's older. I'm 48 and got carded last year at DCA when I was buying margaritas.

I believe the age 14 rule is just for entering a park unaccompanied. Once inside the park or if he is milling around the resort, etc., there is not any specific rule (except for under age 7 cannot ride alone, I think). I suppose if he has a school ID card, it could work, but I don't think they would ask as long as he is acting responsibly.

Do you think they would look askance at us if we filled up multiple water bottles from the dispenser? This is my plan!
Definitely ask a cm to fill the water bottles for you in the back. They'll be more than happy to do it in my experience. Plus, you won't have to worry about another Guest giving you looks for using your own bottle and potentially contaminating the nozzle.

I am coming back!!! A last minute add on to our trip that will end at the Poly. What to do with two free nights in Florida? We all know the correct answer... book at YC! No parks for us on these nights. We are going to see La Nouba, spend serious time in SAB, and maybe try mini golf for the first time. 7/6-8.

:welcome: back!

:woohoo:

My husband and I are staying at Beach Club for our 20 year anniversary 2/1-2/5(and then AKL 2/5-2/10). We are booked standard view. This is our first stay at Beach Club. I appreciate all of the helpful info on this thread.

:welcome: and congratulations on your upcoming milestone anniversary!

I'll add you to the Be Our Guest list we keep on Page 1, Post 15.

Just checked in last night, we are loving YC CL! We were given a king room with a rollaway cot for DD and our room has a full balcony. If you have any questions I'll be glad to answer them...here is our experience so far:

DD and I arrived at 3:30 yesterday, checked in to our room, and headed over to the MK with a billion of our closest friends :D. We ride our three FP rides, then grabbed a spot for the fireworks at the railroad station on Main Street. It was so cool to see the fireworks in person (we watched the live stream last year)! We watched the finale while we headed to the bus, and were fortunate enough to grab a seat on the bus for our ride home.

We headed straight back to the resort, and arrived around 9:40. DH flew in later than us, so his flight arrived at 9:15 and we wanted to meet him. We went to the CL lounge to grab desserts (beer for DH and decaf coffee for me), then went back to our room and thrilled to find our turndown service! The TV was tuned to Duffy's bedtime story, which DD thought was magical :flower1:. We enjoyed our treats and headed to bed.

Now I'm up and enjoying being the only guest in the lobby for the next few minutes. I ventured out looking for coffee, but the Market at Ale and Compass opens at 6:00 and CL coffee service begins at 6:30.

Edit: CL coffee begins at 6:30 not 6:00!

Thank you so much for your live update. Hope the rest of your trip is magical!

I love roaming at the resort in early morning hours - a very tranquil way to start the day!

Heading to visit UF with my oldest son in September.... You know we can't be that close and not visit the World for a night! Excited to be back at the BC in Mid Sept!

Awesome!

:welcome: back!

I'll add you to the list.

:cool2:

Thanks so much for answering! DS x2 will be so happy.
FYI to anyone who cares: Boardwalk usually runs the outdoor campfire on the nights BC doesn't. We're often the only ones at BWI's marshmallow roast (its hidden from foot traffic; BC's marshmallow roast can get very crowded on holiday weekends).

I didn't know that! Thanks for sharing.

I think you will find plenty of availability for seating during a late September/early October trip. We found prime seating during the afternoons on our trip last October.

I have always been able to find a place for my stuff no matter when my trip is or time of day. But in the summer, during the busier times, it is usually just a single lounger or group of chairs that you can only reach by climbing over a number of bridges. There are a few shaded areas and tables with umbrellas, mostly on the YC side, I believe. I have not utilized that seating.

I don't think the people who attempt to reserve chairs early in the morning and then go to the parks are successful. I think to some extent, the pool staff tries to remove the towels of chairs that obviously will not be occupied in the near future- they are easiest to spot in the morning.

There is a link to info about the availability of seating and some tips for dealing with "Chair Piggies" on Page 1, Post 14- Other Useful Info. Worth a read.

That being said, a friend who is at the resort right now reports that this busy holiday week, temperatures and tempers have both been on the rise, more-so than this frequent guest has ever seen. He goes early and frequently to the pool and has witnessed a few incidents between guests. Sad!

Please pack your patience and practice kindness.

Oh, I don't think anyone will have any issues with the girls being unaccompanied by an adult as long as their behavior is not drawing attention.

Last year my Kids 10 and 11 were not allowed in SAB without an adult.. Now I am not sure how old this "adult" has to be.. Example if a 14 yr can escort them in or not... and the lifeguard was strict...I had sent the Kids ahead as I was still packing things up in the room and they were Standing there waiting for me. for the quiet pools there is no one to check.. My Kids also went on their own in the Lobby and marketplace to get Food.

I think the only issue is SAB.. I was thinking this year, I will go in with them and if I wish to head back first to shower I will just leave them there and they can head back 20 minutes later on their own.. It's really the "bouncer" lifeguard at the gate giving wrist bands who wouldnt let them in.

Thank you, Natebenma! Thanks especially for acquainting me with the term "chair piggies;" I've never heard that before and I love it! Just a chair to dump our towels and sunscreen will be adequate for us--I intend to spend most of my time floating down the lazy river in my noodle.

Question about wording a room request:

We are staying BC Deluxe Room for our upcoming marathon trip. Even though it is in January we'd love to have one of the rooms with either balconies or the first floor room with a patio. Basically, we don't want the 2 with only Juliet balconies-haha. I am beginning to converse with DSS and would like to have a room request noted but I am not sure what the best way to state our request is? I'm thinking: Large balcony please overlooking quiet pool preferred.
We just stayed in a delux room in june, I requested through touring plans, DSS and a note in my account when I made the reservation that said "full size balcony please" knowing there are only 2 of 6 with juliet I figured I would get a full balcony but I did not sadly, we got 4691. Be ready for disappointment. I think the rooms with the juliets should cost less honestly. Luckily it stormed every day so we never even used the balcony.

Staying at Yacht Club the first week of September. What can I expect as the average time to and from MK and AK? Highly doubt we rope drop or close the parks since we will have our three year old. Thanks!

Average travel time is 20 minutes for both parks with a stop at BC before you're on your way. Wait time for bus can be anywhere from 5 - 20 minutes. Sometimes a bus will be pulling in just as you get to the bus stop and other times you will just have missed one. Average time? 35 minutes. I would allow 45 - 50 minutes if you need to be there for a specific time.

Anyone go to Picabu at the Dolphin for a large-variety quick service? I'm not really liking any of the options at Hurricane Hanna's, Ale & Compass, or the Marketplace (besides maybe a flatbread). About how long does it take to get to the Dolphin from the BC? 10ish minutes?

Love Picabu! Huge burritos and yummy tacos. The pizza isn't bad either. Breakfast is really nice with large omelettes and the usual suspects available. We've always enjoyed our choices there and you can get a 20% AAA discount, if you have it. We have found ourselves there on quite a few occasions because the grab and go and Marketplace offerings are pretty slim pickins.

I would say 10 minutes is a decent estimate.
