Resort Thread Disney's YACHT & BEACH CLUB Resorts

We just checked in online for the Yacht Club resort. Only options for room request was Upper floor, lower floor, bottom floor or near elevators. Wow really? We can't request a king bed anymore?

My husband is heading to Chicago this week for a golf trip. That's going to feel like heaven after the high 90's and high humidity we're having here in SC!

well, I lied! (or the weatherman did!) I just opened the door and it is HOT and HUMID out there! and I think it was 2 weeks ago that it was hotter and more humid here than it was in Orlando (that was before Orlando hit those 90's!)

That's Chicago for you, if you don't like the weather stick around, it will change! Its scheduled to rain every day on and off, nothing serious though

:welcome:

When is your trip?

King Bed is not an option for online checkin, but you can call in and put the request on your reservation. Call the Central Reservation office for Disney if you made the reservation yourself online or by calling Disney or have your travel agent place the request on the reservation if you booked your trip that way.

I'm not really sure how if making the online requests affects or has higher priority over phoned in requests.

Anyone know???

:thumbsup2

Anyone been recently and can speak in the noise level of construction during the day? We will be spending time relaxing during the day at the resort. Have most rooms been completed at this time? We are heading to BC for the first time 8/1 to 8/8

I wondered that too because we requested higher floor and full balcony for our online check in, but called and added lake side over the phone. I would love to know which, if either, are looked at as priority!

Not that this helps a lot, but our plan is to do the same and we'll be there a few weeks before you, so I can give you some feedback before your trip if you don't hear from anyone else by then!

This isn't resort related, but Vans has a number of Disney-themed shoes they recently released. I picked up a pair at Journeys in the mall. I went for the Villains style. They're pretty cool. :)
DD4 and I got the princess ones! They are super comfortable and so cute! Can't wait to wear them on the plane to WDW in 17 days!!!

We will be at YC on 7/3 to 7/7. This will be our first visit to YC. We stayed at BC a few years back and had an awful experience which included an adjoining door and noisy neighbors. We heard their TV all night and then their child scream every morning.
We made our ressie a few months ago and added to stay 7/6 about a month and a half ago and placed a request for a king bed with the Disney Reservation line. Unfortunately they wouldn't take our request of "no adjoining door". As every time we get one we have had issues with neighbors. At CSR a child was allowed to bang on the door...really?
I was just shocked that online check-in request options were so limited. We didn't choose anything because none of them swayed us one way or the other.

Thanks! I am hoping it will not be too bad.

I have some additional questions. But first hello everyone! I have enjoyed reading most of this thread and found it to be very helpful. As said before we will be staying at the BC for the first time 8/1 to 8/8.

I am a CM and I work at Port Orleans (So I have general knowledge, but not specific BC property knowledge), we have been to many other resorts and the parks before but have chosen BC for this trip for a number of reasons. First my mom will be having back surgery in early June. This trip will be at her 6 week recovery mark (We were supposed to go to DLR for 60th celebration but she did not think she could make the trip to CA) So my vacation has turned into a staycation while my family comes and plays in the parks. I picked BC for SAB, the proximity to Epcot and DHS (my mom will need to utilize a scooter). I also wanted a nicer resort to relax at as we will spend more time at the resort on this trip and felt that SAB would be a nice oasis. We will also be traveling with my two sisters 16 and 20 one of which has a service dog, Figment. Yes he is named for the purple dragon. I will fax room requests when I send my cast ID but want to ask for a large balcony or patio, a daybed and preferably the courtyard/volleyball court view. Now onto the questions I can't seem to find answers to, or am finding mixed answers!

1. What are the hours at Hurricane Hannah's? Is it pretty much all day there? Their offerings seem to be more favorable to us than the sandwiches at the Marketplace.

2. How long is the walk to the Boardwalk Area? You would think I would know this, but my guess is about 10 minutes?

3. Do you have to rent tubes/floats at SAB? Some say yes, others say they are just around.

4. How fast is the slide?

5. I saw in a Trip report that there were some sort of food runners at the pool, it made it sound like they came around with menus and then brought food to your chair. Is there an extra charge for this?

6. How long for boat ride to Epcot or DHS? How long to walk?

Thanks!

Yeah, 9 snow days will do this to ya. Kids finish on the 29th, we teachers on the 30th. As Charlie Brown would say, "Sheesh."

By the 22nd, we will be at BC and starting to wind down. We wing home on the 24th...just in time for me to start school on the 25th!

I AM jealous!
I'm sorry to hear about the concussion. I've taught for 15 years and have never had a concussion happen on my watch. This year....3 so far. I think with all that time cooped up Over the winter has caused them to play extra hard whenever we have recess!

And it does look like we'll overlap a bit! We are at CR from 8/14-19 and BC from 8/19-24. Excellent!

Well if you get the urge to pop over to Poly on 23rd for Trader Sam's, we'll be around! Having a resort day :-). We get home on Sept 6 for school start Sept 8!

I can answer No. 2 - I remember it at less than 10 minutes.

And No. 5 - yes, we had someone come up to us (or I flagged them down, can't remember) and took an order for us (we were just getting iced teas). I loved that!!!

And No 6 - Hollywood Studios is a fairly long walk. I wouldn't do it again, unless I was fresh in the morning. I recall maybe 25 minutes walk, not sure, could be longer. The boat ride to DHS is only about 10 minutes once you are on your way in that direction; could have been a stop at the Swan/Dolphin. The walk to World Showcase/Epcot is quick.

BTW, I love Port Orleans Riverside. I was there with my husband and daughter they very week they opened. It was great!

1. Someone posted Hurricane Hanna's hours recently. 11 am to 10 pm??? Try a search in this thread or maybe someone remembers better than I.
2. 5-7 minutes, regular pace
3. You no longer need to pay to rent floats at SAB. They are available in lazy river
4. Now I need to measure the speed!!! I think I have a video on the first page (Post 3)
5. I have actually never seen a food runner, then again, I spend zero time sitting in a lounger poolside. My guess for an extra charge is tip only. Is that correct.
6. 5-7 minute walk from BC lobby to International Gateway entrance. Not sure about the boat ride. 20-25 minute boat ride to HS, plus any wait for the bus. About the same amount of time to walk at a regular pace.

One of the teachers who organizes the 8th Grade Class trip moved on from All Star Music to the Beach Club with his family for a couple of days after the students left. He did some research for me.

Monykalyn- thank you for the pictures. Was your room on the second floor with the big balconies or on the side rooms with the former balcony?

Was just scrolling through some of my YC/BC pics and thought I'd share this one  Only 46 days to go!!!!! :beach:

Frozen Sunken Treasures!!!!

Now I know the reason why we switched from GF to BC!!

This drink had my name written all over it. Looks like the perfect pre-Dis Meet group drink. What do you say girls . . .

Robyn - Yes! Excellent idea. I certainly would like one of those!

Thanks!

3) = the tubes are free but may be hard to find due to high demand from noon til 4pm. Of course if it is really hot out people tend to ditch the tubes and try and stay cool in the water.

4) The slide is not as fast as say... a 20 year old Italian guy but it is way faster than a 90 year old guy on Viagra.
