Resort Thread Disney's YACHT & BEACH CLUB Resorts

...

I'm working on my "Disney Pregaming," where I watch many of my favorite Disney movies. This morning, I discovered a hidden gem...."Flight of the Navigator," which I LOVED as a kid!
?

Hope your Dad's surgery is a huge success, and recovery goes well! While this is such a common procedure, I know what you mean about worrying!

Hey, we absolutely love "Flight of the Navigator!" Have watched it several times with our now adult kids...we have an old VHS tape, and luckily our player still works...mostly!

Thinking of you and your family!

How "bad" are the villas? Example my 2011 GF stay I felt grimey just being in the room all the fabrics were so marked up and the sofa so used feeling, yet others raved about GF. Then my last YC stay I had no complaints only to see a bunch saying how bad the rooms had gotten. Either I got unlucky and lucky or it is really subjective.

I can currently switch to the refurbed BWV but BCV are closer to Epcot, I hate the tile at BWV in the bathrooms, find BCV rooms prettier as is, fear BW area will be too noisy/hectic and that clown pool really freaks me out. In short, I want BC, but one of us is going to be sleeping on the pullout and I don't want to feel we are on someone's battered old dirty sofa with a worn out mattress causing disomfort all night when we could be at BwV on a fresh sofa losing sleep only because the clown will attack when our eyes close :)

It is so hard to say. We stayed at GF and CBR just before they started renovations at each resort and wondered why they were doing renos because our rooms were great. I can understand some rooms may have more wear. Maybe we were lucky to have good rooms.
My friend stayed in a BCV studio our last BC stay a few years ago so I went in to look. Aside from dated look, the studio was in good condition. But I felt like we had more room in our regular BC room then the studio, with 2 queens.
Sad that they're delaying BCV refurb. Seems like DVC is the poor cousin to their respective resorts!

Newbie here with a question. I've tried to find the answer in this thread but I'm still confused. Will there be construction happening in late October/early November at the BCV? We're booked at WL, but with all the construction due to start I'm contemplating trying for a transfer elsewhere. I'd love to be near EPCOT, but not if I'll still be in a construction zone with a mid-day napper on my hands. Thanks!

:welcome:

You are not the only one confused. Look up a couple of posts, or check out the first post on Page 1. I just posted the notice that was received on Wednesday by a DVC member.

The expected BCV renovation has been postponed, and a new start date has not been announced. Unfortunately, we have no idea if it will be a few months or a year.

So the answer is, we don't know if there will be construction at BCV in October/November.

:goodvibes:

Thanks! Maybe I will let BCV ride and watch for a sale. 30% off a $500/night room would bring the cost of us each having our own room down to close to us splitting a 1 BR villa. I could make the switch then to YC or a regular room at BC. The only thing that keeps me from kicking myself for not moving to VGF when I had the chance (because there is no scary clown or tile there) is that the monorail doesn't service emh and if refurb isn't done, won't service much of anything useful to me.

Wow that was a catch-up and a half! We have been busy so far this summer, down to 3 weeks until our trip and just under 3 until we get to the world!

Scott MC, praying for your father and your family, it is difficult when parents get older.

catho72 what a great use of a snack credit! DS will be delighted.

With the BCV, I am not completely surprised with F&W coming up, however maybe there is a supplier issue, or after the test rooms they found they need to do more work then initially thought. Oh well, can't wait to stay there!!!

For SAB, in August is the normal closing time around 10ish? Curious, as I would like to fit it in on our first few days. :)

I'm just guessing, but later, I think. Maybe 11 pm in early August and possibly 10 pm later in the month.

@catho- what time is SAB closing this week?

Thanks!

Scott, just wanted to add my positive thoughts and good wishes for your Dad's speedy recovery. I may still be kind of new to the thread, but feel like so many here are now just good friends I haven't met. Take care.
Sarah

Many of us are friends! I live about 20 min from Dee, have met Teena many times, and last year met (oh God, I hope I don't forget anyone...) DisneyMomx7, TaraK, YCFan, NinjaMom, MommyRosa, JanetMom, HockeyMomR, and Couchy. They are all delightful, but NinjaMom pays me on an hourly rate to tell you that she was the youngest, funniest, tallest, wealthiest, sexiest, most intelligent, best dancer, and best all around person. You can take from that what you will. :groom:

Well if Dee is the resort thread Queen you are definitely in her "court"!

PSSSSSS , Scott! We are going to arrange to have you, JnJ Pants and the other people that are narrowly missing our trip dates locked in the Fantasy Suite until our arrival!

Um...I want to be in her court too! I was just voted "Mr. Congeniality" by my staff!
And sadly, we fly back into Boston just after midnight on 8/25, and a mere 8 hours later, there are 23-ish good-looking 9 year olds expecting me to teach them everything they need to know. I don't think we can deny them that.

Scott - I saw your updates and wish your dad the very best of recoveries. It absolutely makes sense to clean it all out while they're in there. I think some of our days overlap. I would love to meet up with you guys if it's at all possible. I can likely convince my sister to watch the toddler for me so I can have a few hours of adult interaction, which would be divine!

Thanks for the thoughts, and we love meeting up with BC/YC fans at WDW!

Not selfish, you want to be sure Dad will be good when you are away. Totally understandable. He will be in my thoughts and prayers

Thanks, I 've gotten some reassurance that after this is all done, in a few months, he'll be better off than he's been in a long time. Of course, I'm still worried about the surgery itself, but I'm feeling better about his prognosis.

Scott best wishes to your Dad and whole family.

Scott MC-Sending good thoughts and prayers for your dad and for your family.

Thanks so much!

So besides Epcot, what are the best ts (not signature) in the area. This is for a family of 5 with 3 dd who are all beginning to try different things. Having said that I have a food intolerance so anything tomato based os out.

Captain's Grille and Crews Cup Lounge work for us. Big River Grille at BWI isn't bad either.

BTw: this is the best thread on Disboards!

Um..yeah. :grouphug:

:offtopic:

OK, more off topic, but @Scott MC we definitely should talk!

I am so proud of the programs we offer at the farm- we have them for all grades, they are hands-on for the students and very well done if I do say so myself.

Plus. Goats!

Dirt Detectives- an archeology program where we explore the 300 year old manor house and the kids dig in an actual pit set up by BU archeologists

In Search of a Story- historical fiction. We explore the house and farm while the kids collect character, setting and language ideas for their own historical fiction stories

Family Ties- Immigration

and of course

A Day at the Farm- did I mention goats? (and a horse, donkey, two ginormous pigs, sheep and roosters)

Our programs are fairly reasonable per student and you are a short bus ride away.

:teacher:

Sounds good! I'll look it up and present it to my colleagues in the fall! Wheeeee! Still looking for that "Seaglass" date sometime in the near future!

Has there been any information yet about what the new YC rooms will look like? Or do we first find that kind of stuff out when they actually start doing the refurb and people snap some picture?

I. Can't. Wait. To. See.

Thank you and Wheeee to FOTN! Truly! What a great flick!

BREAKING NEWS!!!!!

This is big!

Are you sitting down?

Guess what my husband and son just got from the takeout window at Beaches and Cream?

Milkshakes.

And they were able to use a SNACK CREDIT!

I guess that letter writing campaign was successful! If only they would allow the unwashed masses from SAB to shower in the spa/health club again.....
OH. MY. GOODNESS!! There's a good use of extra QS credits - > three milkshakes!!

Scott - I thought I was bad! We get back a little after midnight ( flying home on 8/31) and we start school on 9/2 - but 8 hours WOW

Hope to meet up with you guys and Tarak!

We'll likely stay at the hotel. It's just keeping the toddler entertained can be tricky when we don't have a fabulous splash pad or some other Disney entertainment for her. I already told the tween that we're going to bed at 8 that night, no arguments.

And I completely understand what you mean about keeping Grumpy happy. My husband loves AKL. I'm not complaining, it's a gorgeous resort. But I like trying different places. I think he was willing to go someplace else for our January trip, but I think he'd have been unhappy. So AKL it is. Well, AKV, really, since we have a two BR villa reserved for January. I think the space is going to spoil me.
AKV was HUGE and beautiful and my kids loved the pool! And...we loved AKL. AKL is where I got bitten by the CL bug (upgrade due to room overbooking) My Grumpy prefers Universal so most resorts are a struggle to get him to agree too, but luckily he fell in love with the BC refurb :)

Pas130 ... You have to eat at the Beach House ...and get the seafood brushetta ....and if you like Italian we went twice to the Bayou Tavern ... Wow is it ever good. We walked to the Beach House and ate dinner there 3 times!! The condo is wonderful ...we will be back every year!
Yum, thanks Teena! I will definitely check it out, it looks like it's less than a 1/2 mile walk from our resort. Or the trolley...how's the trolley by the way :)

And DIS Pixie dust is truly magical, you've got lots of that headed your Dad's way!

Trolley was good ... Oh and the wonderful ice cream shop is across from the Beach house restaurant. The Italian restaurant is real Italian, not American Italian ....so good!!!! We also ate at the Waterfront and it was good too but we preferred the Beach House.

It is raining all day today and I suggested maybe packing up and heading home today. Jeanne said over her dead body ...she wasn't missing the seafood brushetta at the Beach House tonight again.

We love the condo so much. Hopefully we can get it year after year!

Wonderful news, thank you so much! I can't wait to go! It is unreal that in 21 days I'll be packing up the car for our drive!!!

Hi, I know we're still miles away from our trip (396 days I think - not that I'm counting!) I've seen lots of posts about room requests for YC garden view and for BC standard view - we have booked BC garden view, what are the sort of requests we could make? What is a good BC garden view? I am thinking "close to Epcot" if that would put us near the secret exit but is there anything different we could ask for?
Thanks

Thank you so much! It's much appreciated. I can clarify a bit more. Though it will be a triple bypass, there's really only one artery that's clogged to the point that it needs the bypass, but there are 2 others that are getting there, so the thought process is, "While we've got him open, why not?" This makes me feel a *bit* better.

No CL this trip...it's going to be a *Magical* trip again, and CL wasn't available. We're just happy to be coming! The "magical*-ness of it allows us to split-stay and try other resorts, so, we're starting off at CR, where we've never stayed before!
I'm working on my "Disney Pregaming," where I watch many of my favorite Disney movies. This morning, I discovered a hidden gem...."Flight of the Navigator," which I LOVED as a kid!
Tomorrow, I'm going to call my *Magical* agent and pay off our trip, and make our room requests (very simple, "Upper floor please" at both resorts!).

How Americana of you! I need to book a field trip there with my children....maybe next school year?

Best of luck to your Dad Scott. I'm an administrator at MGH so rest assured that he is in GREAT hands!!

Jay
