Resort Thread Disney's PORT ORLEANS FRENCH QUARTER Resort

We are staying at POFQ in 2 standard rooms Aug 30 to Sept 5. Looking at the map building 7 seems the furthest. Is that where the standard rooms are? Should I upgrade to be closer to the main building?

There are Standard View rooms in any buildings that have rooms facing the parking areas (basically 1, 3, 4 and 7). See http://www.portorleans.org/floorplans.php for full details of the category of every room in the resort.

The only room category which will guarantee you a room very close to the centre of the resort is Pool View, but the resort is so small anyway that I really wouldn't worry about it.

I am sure this has been asked before.. :o But are there elevators at this resort? I would love to request a top floor but don't really want to have to schlep my daughters stroller up and down the stairs :P

Looks like I might be returning to POFQ. Currently have two BB booked for late October. A CV at Wilderness Lodge and a RV at FQ.

Waiting to see how plans for 2016 are going to affect my vacation budget.

RV was the only thing available. I'm assuming that the rooms facing straight on the river are RV? Not rooms at an angle. I'd prefer 2 or 5 (the ones flanking the pool) as the shorter distance is better for mom, but it looks like a few other buildings have rooms that face the river as well. I know for me none of the distances are too long but at least on paper 2/5 looks like the best fit.

Also does RV mean upper floor? She needs 1st floor as stairs are a problem as far as an evacuation goes.

River View rooms can be on any floor, so a request for ground floor is perfectly valid.

We have had RV rooms on the ground floor in 1 and 6. Building 1 wasn't a longer walk than 6 to the Main building. I would request ground RV preferably in 2 or 5 but no building 7

Please tell me which rooms/buildings would be best for shortest walks between the bus stop, main building, and the ferry to DTD. My wife will be 28 weeks pregnant when we get there and a shorter walk means less huffing and puffing (at me, directly, haha).

There's a map of the resort in the first post in this thread. The thing though, is that building 4 would be the closest to the main building (which is where the bus stop is), but buildings 2 and 5 are closest to the ferry dock. Rather than requesting a building, it might be better to ask for a location as close as possible to both the ferry and the main building. Plus, some rooms in building 4 are much closer to the main building than others, so just asking for building 4 might not get you that close, although the resort is fairly compact, so really no room is going to be too far of a walk.

For those people who were following the limited tests that took place last year, you may be pleased to know that the 'Direct to Room' checkin service will now become a permanent feature at the Port Orleans resorts starting from next week, Tuesday 10 February, and soon after then at the other Disney resorts.

It still won't be compulsory of course - you can always head over to the Front Desk when you arrive if you prefer, or if you need something specific - but assuming you've already received your Magic Bands in the post and have completed the necessary online process, it will be possible to have your resort room number communicated to you by email and/or text message shortly before your arrival. You will then be able to completely bypass the whole traditional registration process and go straight to your room with your Magic Band already activated and ready for use to get you into your room, pay for dining, use your ticketed admissions into the theme parks, access FastPass+, etc.

While this won't appeal to everyone - especially for those first-time visitors who may not know their way around the resort yet - for returning guests who just want to get to Disney and head straight off to a park, it could be a real time-saver.

That's an interesting option, Andre. Not sure how I feel about it. I'll be watching to see how it works out for people.

Me and my sister are staying at the French Quarter for our upcoming birthday trip from June 29-July 5! We decided to get some ADRs for character breakfasts, and were wondering what time the buses start running to the Magic Kingdom? One breakfast is an 8:00 am at Ohana, so we figured we'd take the MK bus over to the MK then the boat over to the Poly. Another is a 7:30 at Chef Mickey's, and figured we'd try to take a bus over to the MK then walk over to the contemporary.

As long as they have something in place to let you if your room is ready or not when you arrive it is good for us. Just need to know if we need to leave our carry-on bags at bell services if the room isn't ready. My only other concern is that they don't use it to cut jobs.

You won't be notified of your room number until they know it has been cleaned and is ready for you to enter.

I worry a bit about the long-term impact on jobs too. Online checkin created new roles in fact, but I can't see Direct-to-Room doing the same.

Ugh, this "direct-to-room" thing is suddenly making me reconsider not going to a park on arrival night! I figured by the time I got there and got checked in, it would be too late to be worth the bother, but... But I swore after my first trip that I would never ever ever go to MK on a Saturday ever again, and I can't believe I'm stupid enough to even consider it. But, if I got there early enough and didn't have to wait to check in... No! Stick to the Plan! (Where's a smiley for slapping myself when I need it?)

Regardless of whether I use it, I am curious to read people's experiences with direct-to-room.
