Resort Thread Disney's PORT ORLEANS FRENCH QUARTER Resort

Checking in next Wednesday. Can anyone confirm that the hot tub is open past 8pm? Auntie is taking the kids for a night and I thought a late night dip might be nice.

We went in October and the hot tub was open past 8.

Hello all! Looks like we will be staying here 4/24-4/28. So excited! It's a mother/daughter trip for my daughter's high school graduation and so that we can go to the USASF Cheerleading Worlds (as spectators).

At POFQ, the hot tub is separate from the pool so it's never gated off. It was never closed during our December trip. We had it to ourselves every night. One night, after MVMCP, I know we were in it after midnight.

Have a great time:cool1: We will also be there during that time 4/20-4/28:banana:

We will be there 4/20 to 5/1. Say Hi if you see these two "senior" citizens. I guess no one does the Lime Green Mikey Heads any more. Years ago it was a way for DISsers to identify one another.

42 days !!! Can hardly wait! My FAVORITE resort and a solo trip! Better start making' those beignets now, my friends.....YUM!!

I still have my lime green Mickey's on all my Disney stuff! I will look out for you!!

I took a fall last week and have ended up in an aircast walking boot for the next 4-6 weeks. We leave for Disney in 9 days for a 12 day vacation!! I have been advised by many on the disABILITIES forum that an ECV would be the most beneficial for our vacation since a wheelchair would be taxing on my husband. And there's no way I can walk THAT much in this boot. Will an ECV fit easily into a standard room at FQ? My husband and daughter love staying on the third floor. Are the walkways around the rooms easy to maneuver around?
Any advice is appreciated!!

I know an ECV will fit into the rooms, but I don't know about quite how easy that fit would be. The third-floor rooms should all be accessible for you, and the walkways are OK to manoeuvre an ECV along, but it'd be worth faxing ahead and asking for a room near to the elevators to make it easier for you.

I have first hand experience on this, Christmas week 2013 arch/planters issue left foot about 7 days before vacation. We were a party of 4(me DH 2 teenage sons) standard room 3rd floor. No issues at all, :cheer2:I rented from Apple scooter no issues and no problems with them.:cheer2: my doctor did give me paper work to get a temporary wheelchair parking pass because of the extent of my mobility. I had no problem getting all around the resort and beyond. We had a mid size car rental, no problems breaking it down and fitting it in the truck.:cool1:

We were at French quarter and I made no special room requests.
Hope your foots on the mend, have a great trip.pixiedust:

I need help! Please!!

We have always stayed All-Star Movies. Disney themed, and well cheaper :D .... I wanted to upgrade to moderate to satisfy my husband (try something new)... But I can't decide between POR and POFQ. I love that POFQ is smaller, and the rooms look beautiful. But. I despise New Orleans, lol, living an hour and a half away, and having went twice in the past month alone it just reminds me of dirty city, random people asking for money. (My opinion, please don't be offended) ....I just feel like I would get tired of being surrounded by Mardi gras and jazz music the whole time.

POR is beautiful, but I don't too much care for the AB rooms at ALL and the fact that the resort is huge! I am booking through a TA, standard, so I assume at POR I would be farrrr away from the main building.

Guys, help me. Or just pick for me! Gah! :rolleyes2

Well if you don't like New Orleans but still want to upgrade to a moderate then try Coronado springs it's cheaper than POR n POFQ n different theming.

Very true. Unfortunately, the TA we are using doesn't have this one included in their very low rate offerings. We have stayed Coronado before, while the rooms were beautiful, the outside decor left more to be desired for me.

I should just restart, I do dislike visiting the city of New Orleans itself, but I know Disney's portrayal would probably be outstanding. The outside landscaping is gorgeous, I do love the plantation style. I'm just a little disinterested by the AB rooms, and their locations. At POFQ, I was wondering if mardi gras and jazz was extremely prevalent. I think I could overlook that though. As the grounds here with the wrought iron and the rooms themselves look beautiful to me. I came off a little harsh earlier, I'm not so against it I don't want to stay here. I'm more drawn to POR, but very afraid I'll end up with a room in the sticks ;) ... I was just looking for someone to tell me why they would choose which one. I'll reread through some threads I suppose. I fought with this last year too, and just ended up booking All-Stars. I am NOT doing that this year!

We just got back from a week at POFQ and would definitely stay there again. While the architecture may be New Orleans based there are no drunks or people asking for money. It is very clean - even the walkways were being repainted while we were there. There is jazz music playing in the common areas but it is not obtrusive. And since the resort is small it was a very short walk everywhere, either to a bus or water taxi or to the QS restaurant to get a coffee in the morning. While we were there we walked up to Riverside and were struck by how big and spread out it is.

When Home Depot stopped carrying the mickey head paint samples, people stopped using the LGMH as much.

Thank you for sharing your experience. I think I am leaning heavily towards POFQ now. A few Mardi Gras decorations, and background music doesn't outweigh the distance factor at POR for me.

What is the experience with the buses? Do the resorts share?

Resort will share buses.. It has been my experience that in busier seasons they wont.. This past november we had our buses all to ourselves EXCEPT the Animal Kingdom bus- they picked us up first then went to Riverside.. That was the only time we shared.. Even in the evenings we went straight to POFQ.. It really only takes about 10-15 minutes extra to stop at Riverside to pickup (as long as no wheel chairs are involved) I have stated at both resorts and I loved Riverside but I like how the french quarter was smaller.. We did end up walking over to riverside twice to see yehaa bob in the evening and the walk was very short..we were in building 2...

We found last week that Magic Kingdom buses were never shared. It seemed like early in the mornings none of the buses to the parks were shared, and the same happened at night for the returns from the parks.

Note - for Downtown Disney, take the water taxi if at all possible. We went to Downtown from a different resort after dinner one night, and the traffic around the bus stop was awful.

I just went the week of January 12th and never shared buses except when I went to Hollywood Studios around 2pm 1 day. And coming back from Epcot around 5 pm-ish, POFQ was dropped off first.
