I have been informed that they are also now placed in the 50's too. :)
Great info-thanks!:)

So POP has now gone from The Fifteens not staying there at all for many years to them just staying in the 80s,90s to now staying "Resort-wide" pretty much.

Interesting.:)

Did you use the TP fax or did you fax it yourself?
Please come back and let us know if it worked!
Have fun!!!

Cannot wait to see your report on whether the fax worked for you! Good wishes pixiedust:

I honestly am not sure it will work because I requested a room with a King bed. But hey, if I get one, I would say it worked! I copied a script I used last year at POR. There is a script on their resort thread that worked for me when we stayed there last year. I will definitely come back and let you all know!

I agree with stitchlovestink that they are not air conditioned but that shouldn't be a problem in January.
I have had no trouble with the elevators and we have stayed on all floors. If you have a floor preference, since you are booked standard, you could request 60's and your floor preference since ALL of the standard rooms in 60's are lake view. That would put you on the back side of the 60's building and far enough from the pool and all the fifteens. Just a thought :thumbsup2

I think that's a very good suggestion Spoerlx3! Should I add my requests to my reservation now, or wait until online check-in?

Also, for anyone who has vacationed at Pop during the same time frame (January/February), what sort of discounts have been offered in the past? I know Stay, Play & Dine was offered last year, was there also a room-only discount?

Thanks everyone!

Definitely call and add your requests to your reservation. This can be done any time from the day you book up until 5-6 days out. The options during online check in are predetermined and limited. This way you can specify exactly what you want.

Here is a link to the historical discounts offered going back to 2011 to get an idea of what has been offered.

I would definitely call and add your requests to your reservation and list them in order of your most important. If you have a floor preference and you have decided between 60's or 70's, I would also check off your 2 requests during on-line check in. Just make sure what you add to your reservation and what you check off during on-line check in match so it doesn't confuse the room assigners. Good luck! I hope you get the perfect room!

Ever since the 2 kids drowned, one at Pop and one at AoA, all the WDW pools close at some point.

They have gotten much more strict at all the resort pools since the drowning of the 13 yr old boy at POP Century in March 2013.
When we were there in September, they would not allow anyone swim in the pools without a lifeguard on duty.

I am traveling to Pop (YAY) but I was only able to get a pool view standard room. I do not want a pool view! I would really like a regular standard lake view. What are the odds of calling and getting a room without a pool view even if that is the category I am in?

I did not know that. How sad....

If they have it available they will try to get you whatever view you want. If they have it available they will bend over backwards to try to get you what you want. However, depending upon your arrival date, if the price goes down because of the change, you may owe them a change fee of about 50.00. Even if they do not have it available they can note it on your reservation so you can switch it last minute if a room in that category comes available.

The closings and not allowing after hours swimming was happening before the AoA drowning occurred. That drowning just occurred not that long ago....either late June or early July.

The 13 y.o. died in early March of 2013 (the incident occurred the second weekend but he didn't die immediately). They did not change the policy for several months. We sat by the pool observing after hours swimmers in May, June and July. The lifeguard is off duty....swim at your own risk signs were still being posted at the 50's pool. It took Disney several months to determine and establish the policy and then it was instituted across the board the same at all hotels.

WHY does POP close the pool at 11???

Yes,11:00 PM is the latest the Pools stay open now(except for the Quiet/Leisure Pools at Mods and Luxes).

The Pools close even earlier(9:00 at times and 10:00 at times)at other times of year.

Thye are in the process of fencing all Pools as well-they are currently fencing Surfboard Bay over at Sports.

And actually that is starting to change. There have been multiple reports from people returning from POR and CBR stating that the leisure pools are closing at 11PM also. The gates on the leisure pools at CBR are being locked and Security is asking guests to get out of the leisure pools at POR.

I wonder why they don't list "Third Floor".

now the parks have reduced Extra Magic Hours too??

Yes,unfortunately,Evening Extra Magic Hours is only 2 hours now-I REALLY miss that 3rd hour!:)

Of course I remember when we only had AM EMH(MADEMAD)so I'll take what I can get!lol:)

I understand that someone died and they changed the policy but why not let us swim until at least midnight. ..I mean we are on holiday after all....
That was some of my ds favourite memories was swimming after coming home from the parks after midnight.

We don't make it much for EMH in the am...we are park closers and sleep in kinda people.
