Disney's POP CENTURY RESORT Information & Questions

For the MOST Disney experience possible, should we stay in a specific building? Do any specific things on resort? Anything in particular I should request?

OH! And we will need regular access to the microwave before heading into the parks because we have to take food into the parks for my son due to a medical condition. Is there one particular building that would give us faster/easier access in the morning?

You didn't mention what room category you booked but here is a map of POP with the room categories highlighted to show you where they are located:

As you can see, most of the rooms closest to classic hall (microwaves) are preferred pool or preferred. If you booked either of those, then you are good to go as far as being close to the microwaves. If you booked standard pool I would check 1) 50's & 2) close to transportation or ground floor during on-line check in. If you booked standard then you would need to decide which is your favorite era and what area looks best to you. Do you like a lake view or do you just want to be closest to Classic Hall/transportation. Personally, I prefer a ground floor but others prefer 4th floor. Here are the choices you will get during on-line check in:

I sure hope this helps :thumbsup2

Our family of six checks in a week from Sunday - room 1 will be my Mom, Aunt, and myself...room 2 will my sister, her husband, and their two children (age 3 and 7). We did book a preferred room (Mom has knee issues and we wanted to be close) and we are going to do online check in today. Out of the preferred sections, which one is quieter (if there is a such a thing)? Was thinking 50s but really have no idea.

Also, we would like connecting rooms if possible - that way we can help out with the young ones. Is there a way to go about this prior to arriving or do we wait until we get there?

Thanks

Call Disney and have them add "connecting rooms" to both reservations.
There is no choice for connecting rooms during on-line check in.
I love all the preferred sections. They are going to get you closest to Classic Hall.
50's is my least favorite because of the smoking section in between the 2 buildings (marked on the map with a blue box with a cigarette). That smoking spot always seems to be busy and it makes me sick to have to walk anywhere near it.
When we book preferred we normally request 70's, ground floor. It is the quitest area since there is no pool in that section but it is still close to the main pool. I like 60's too and if you get assigned to the back part of the 60's building, it is in front of the kiddy pool which may be nice for the kids and it is close to the bridge that goes over to AoA. That area is a little further from Classic Hall. Here is the map, The preferred rooms are highlighted in yellow:

Hope you get the perfect room!

Are the elevators located in the center of each building? I booked preferred, and ideally I would like to have ground floor 50s close to transportation. Or would saying 50s put me close enough to transportation anyway?

Yes, elevators are in the center of each building, behind the big icons. I personally think pretty much anything in the 50's and 60's is close, but YMMV. :)

I did my on line check in and I selected the 60's as my request. But my reservation is for a standard pool room I didn't realize there is no standard pool room in the 60's. Should I change my request selection to the 50's or would Disney give me a room that is not a pool or preferred location in the 60's building I really would like a room in the 60's by the lake.

I would change your request to a room in the 50's. If you are booked for a std pool view (which means you are going to get a room in the 50's or in the 80's/90's section), they can't give you a std room (which is what the lake view rooms in the 60's are) because they are cheaper and that would be downgrading you. They can upgrade but they can't downgrade. If you check in soon, I would put my request in soon!!

Thank you so much for the reply. Going to call tomorrow to have them add "connecting rooms" to our reservations. Also, appreciate the feedback on location. Had no idea about the smoking section so that is good to know as I cannot deal with the smell of it and rather not walk anywhere near it.

We booked preferred room for our upcoming trip. If we want to watch the illumination fireworks, what is the best room to request? Thanks

I would change it to 50's pool. :thumbsup2

You can actually add all your requests to your reservation when you call a CM but make sure you put your requests in order of importance to you,
Ex: connecting rooms, xx section, xxx floor, close to transportation, etc. Then you can check 2 requests during on line check in (unfortunately not connecting rooms). Don't bombard them with a ton of requests, I would recommend no more than 3 and if you get 2 of them, be happy!
During our last trip, I requested connecting rooms, 50's, 4th floor. We got connecting rooms, building 2 in the 50's and a ground floor. We got 2 of our requests and we ended up loving the ground floor that we didn't request (just not so much the building we were assigned :sad2: I didn't realize I would love a ground floor as much as we did. Now ground floor is what we request. Building 2 is pretty far from classic hall and we had to walk through that smoking area coming and going so as much as we love the 50's theme we won't request 50's anymore. Live and learn :rolleyes1

On our last visit this spring, we thought we'd save money by having groceries in the room and use the microwave. For a week's trip, we didn't find the microwave until Day 6. We looked for so long, I was convinced they didn't have any.

I'm not sure any preferred rooms would give you a view of the fireworks.
The rooms with the best view of fireworks would be building 3 or 4, 4th floor closest to the end, lakeview (and these are the most requested rooms)
and all lakeview rooms are standard.
Preferred is going to get you closest to Classic Hall and transportation and it is an easy walk over to the bridge and get a beautiful view of the fireworks.

Thanks again. Your responses have been very helpful. I definitely will not be thrilled dealing with the smoke, especially with two young children in our group. Going to keep my requests simple.

Is it weird that I'm excited this thread was started the day we got home from our last trip at Pop? We'll be completely up to date ;)

We'll be back in April, can't wait!

DH and I will be there in a little over 3 weeks!! I LOVE POP, can't wait to be back! :teeth::teeth::teeth:
