Disney's POP CENTURY RESORT Information & Questions

That taxi price was amazing! We paid around $50 for a taxi to universal and same amount back though that was a towncar since Universal hotels seem to keep them nearby instead of taxis

Accessible rooms are rooms that you have to book. (On the main Disneyworld .com page, to the right of the resort/dates, etc there is a box that you check to book an accessible room)
You can request one by calling and adding it to your reservation but I am not sure it would give you any more room since all POP rooms are exactly the same size and they could only give you one if there are accessible rooms that have not been booked. You might go to the website and enter your dates, check to box and see if any accessible rooms are even open. This would give you an idea of whether one may be available to request. You will see the accessible options are for hearing, visual and roll in shower. You also may be able to call and explain the situation and move your room to an accessible room. Worth a try if you decide you want one.
Whether you get an accessible room or not, there may be room for the scooter right in front of the window or if you move the table, you may could find room for the scooter there. I remember seeing alot of people parking their scooters on the side of Classic Hall closest to building 1 but I'm not sure if they were just charging them or storing them there.
Hopefully someone that has used a scooter and stored it in their room will respond.

There is actually handicap parking in every section and even though it is marked on the map as 50's, 60's, 70's etc, it is not restricted to an era, you can use any parking available.

Can I ask a really stupid question, if someone books an accessible room do they make sure the person actually needs the accessible room? It would seem people who wanted a king bed instead of two doubles would just book an accessible room which would then take away the inventory from the people who actually need the room. I'm just kind of surprised that isn't an issue unless they do some sort of check when the person checks in.

Has anyone recently taken a taxi between Pop and Mary, Queen of the Universe (8300 Vineland Ave.Orlando, FL 32821) for Catholic Mass? I'm curious on costs..I've seen an approximate cost of $15+tip...and how to get a taxi to come back to Pop or to MK. We have 8 of us, so I'm pretty sure it would require 2 taxis, and the other huge negative is we won't have car seats! Thanks for any thoughts or info

When we went to Mary, Queen of the Universe in 2014 there were 8 of us so we did the luxury van from Mears. It was $56 round trip plus tip and they provided a car seat for my daughter who was 2 at the time. They were great to work with and were early to pick us up and the vehicle was very clean. They send you a text message when your vehicle has been dispatched to pick you up too.

This year we had 5 of people so we were able to do the luxury SUV from Mears and it was still $56 round trip but we were able to get a discount on our booking of 10 or 15% and it looks like they are offering a 10% discount on web bookings if you use code WEB10.

Hope that helps!

I can only speak for our experience and yes, they did require my hubby, that was in a wheelchair due to knee surgery from a fall he took 2 weeks before our trip :faint: , be available at check in and when we did the on-line check in, we had to come to the front desk, we could not use bypass check in. The CM actually said "I see that you are booked an accessible room with 2 double beds and a roll in shower. Is the person that is requiring the accessible room available?" My husband and our daughter was sitting with our luggage so we traded places. He could walk, just not excessively, so he hobbled over and they completed the check in. I believe they have caught on and it is much easier for them to check since they have several CM's standing in the lobby with their IPad's.

That makes sense but I'm surprised they don't note that on their website. I got curious and added an ADA room to my cart to see if it said anything about needing proof of need and it didn't. I have to imagine someone has booked an ADA room when they didn't need it and I wondered what happened when they checked in.

Oh my gosh that's amazing!! Thank you! I had called another transit company recommended by someone at Pop but they were quoting $65 per way, and they "probably" could get us car seats. :( I will absolutely be looking into Mears and thank you too for the discount code! I've said it before and I'll say it again, I <3 the DIS!!! :disrocks:

That would be interesting to hear:scratchin I wonder if they only require verification randomly?

Yeah I was kind of wondering about confidentiality issues…Like I know you can't ask a person why they need a service dog so I was wondering if that was the same for why a person needs a HA room. Or maybe everyone is as unaware as I was that there was even an accessible room button to check to see the accessible rooms. I never even realized that button was there till today. Granted, I booked my room through Orbitz which doesn't give an option to search for a HA room (I just went and checked)

That proof of needing a HA room kind of bothers me. My DD has Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, which is a type of invisible disease. She uses a wheelchair almost the whole time at Disney now, but if you look at her, you wouldn't know she is medically fragile. She cannot shower standing up, as she gets dizzy and can pass out. I don't think they can ask proof, as that is a confidentiality issue - like when we got the new disability thing on our magicbands last trip rather than the old GAC card.

:earsgirl::earsboy:Hello POP-pers!

After much debate between a moderate and value, I have just booked POP for DH and I from 5/14/16 - 5/21/16. Last time we were at WDW was in 2012 (1st time for me - 4th for DH) and stayed at Coronado Springs. I had a mail discount code this time (BONUS) and to save some $ we decided to go with a value. I originally wanted ASMu, but after seeing the pictures, DH really wanted to stay at POP so here we are.

I made my reservation over the phone with an extremely nice CM. She asked me if we were celebrating anything and I told her it was for my DH and I both turning 40 next year. I also requested a room in the 70's building (not so much for the convenience - which will be great - but because we were both born in 1976), so hopefully we get that.

I have read through EVERY post on this thread and am very excited for our upcoming stay here. Now to get through the next 7 months...
It took us a lot of debating too. We had a hard time deciding between Pop or CBR but we are going to go with Pop. Such a cute resort! We will also be checking in on 5/14/16!!

As I mentioned, I can only speak for our check in experience. Maybe we looked shady :cool2::rotfl:
It was very suttle, she did not ask for proof, she simply asked if the person requiring the accessible room was available. She didn't ask for a doctors note or any hospital document to prove his surgery, she didn't ask him to take off his knee brace to show her the scar or anything like that. We did not have to prove anything at all. I did not take any offense to it at all. She may not have even needed my DH to come up there, I may have just been able to say, yes, ma'am, he is right over there and pointed to him in his wheelchair. I just happened to say "Danny, she needs you:laughing:" and he got up and came over. Maybe some of our other Disboard friends will share their experience.

We are arriving in Feb. with my dd (6) and ds (4) with dh as well. DH has to leave three morning to taxi/uber to a conference he is attending while we are there. Looking for suggestions on what to request for rooms? Just looking for something convenient for DH to walk to get his transportation each morning. TIA!

I would request "close to transportation" and "first floor".

Bstew, What room category are you booked? The room category you are assigned will play a part in where the room assigner can look for your requests.

Here is a map of POP with the room categories highlighted.

I agree with dansdad. Both of these requests are available during on line check in and the room assigner will assign the closest room out of the rooms that are available to transportation. Depending on your room category, if you have an era that you would like to request (and you do not have a floor preference), you could also choose close to transportation and a specific era. Here are the choices you will have during on line check

Thanks guys!

Spoerlx3, we are booked in a standard room. Did not know close to transportation was an option! Thanks so much! Love the Dis!!
:thanks:

Close to transportation to a room assigner normally means "close to Disney transportation to the parks". In a standard room that could get you in building 1 (or maybe the backside of building 3) in the 50's, the backside of building 10 in the 70's, or the 90's in building 9 (which has a shortcut just around or through the parking lot straight to the buses).
From what you posted, I think your DH needs to be closest to where the taxi's/uber would pick him up which is right in front of the giant POP sign, where you enter to check in, which is the end of the Classic Hall closest to the 50's section (the area on the map that is jutted out on the end closest to building 1).
If that is what you are wanting, I think I would choose "close to transportation" and "50's" unless you have a specific floor you really want. This is just my opinion but if you are assigned a room in the 90's, that means a nice hike across the entire front of Classic Hall.

They are not allowed to look or question the reason a person has booked a ADA room. They can't deny one if booked either. Disney would definitely like too, but the current laws don't allow them too. It really is a slippery slope they question the wrong person they wind up in a lawsuit, they question the right one and the can still wind up in a lawsuit but save the room for a person who actually needs it.

I have to have a ADA room due to ALS when I first started going I wasn't in a chair but I needed a handicapped bathroom due to slip and fall issues, I was never asked once about who the room was for. Now I'm in a chair or use crutches and they don't ask. I don't know how I would have answered if asked. I guess it depends on the mood. And that's not trying to be snarky. It really depends on how asked etc. I do know they aren't supposed to question it at all and that you were asked is probably not the norm. If they are beginning to ask people are probably abusing it due to the fact that if you book a king and a double they will give you connecting rooms if you have 3 or more people in the room at no additional charge. There are unscrupulous people who would take advantage of that.

Since there's been some talk about room requests, I figured I might as well ask for some advice from the awesome people here...
We're booked in a standard room. We know that one of our requests will likely be ground floor (way easier than dealing with elevators, and noise is not a problem for us), leaving us with one additional request.
We'll probably be going to the food court for breakfast some mornings, so we'd like to be close to classic hall, but if at all possible, we'd also like to be close to transportation (for the days when we're having breakfast elsewhere ... and for the walk back to the room after a long day at the parks).
I know that "close to classic hall" is not a request option. Is my best bet requesting close to transportation (and hoping the walk to classic hall isn't too bad)? Or should a request a specific decade? And which decade would best fit my needs - is 50's or 70's my best bet?

Thanks for any help or advice you may have. The people on this thread really are amazing!!

All bus stops are across the front of Classic Hall and the doors to POP dining are on the backside of the Classic Hall building closest to the Hippy Dippy pool. You can cut through Classic Hall, thru either the Everything POP store or the dining to get to the bus stops. If you choose ground floor and close to transportation and you were assigned 90's, building 9, the shortcut around/across the parking lot would allow you to bypass Classic Hall all together. If you choose 50's and are assigned building 2, it is a pretty long trek to get to Classic Hall and/or the buses, especially after a long day at the parks. If you could be guaranteed building 1 in the 50's, it may be worth it to choose ground floor and 50's but either of the 70's buildings are going to be closer to Classic Hall and the buses by going through or around Classic Hall to get to the buses. Personally, if these were my needs/wants, I would choose "ground floor" and "70's". Again, this is only my opinion and maybe some other Disboard friends will give their thoughts.
