Disney's POLYNESIAN VILLAGE RESORT Information & Questions

We're traveling with my in-laws in a few weeks, and DH isn't sure they'll want to go to the pool with us in the afternoons. I was trying to brainstorm some alternative/ unique things to do around the resort, and only came up with shopping/ snacking around the monorail loop & renting one of those little boats to explore 7 Seas Lagoon. What other recreational type things can I suggest? I know they have plenty of kids activities throughout the day, but I feel like there has to be more for the adult crowd that I'm not thinking of.

If I was lucky enough to have my parents travel with me to Disney, I think they would enjoy the following:
-Walk or monorail on over to the GF and listen to the band and/or piano (prob at the top of their list.
-Relax with a cocktail and maybe small bites at Tiki Terrace.
-People watch in the lobby.
-Rent a boat.
-MAYBE they would sit by the pool in the shade and for sure they would if grandchildren wwere involved. LOL

ENJOY this special time with them! ❤

Can anyone who has been lately tell me how the monorail is running? My last couple trips to the Poly, the resort monorail was out of service, significantly delayed the majority of our trip. In 2015, I was warned ahead of time about the scheduled maintenance, not only to the resort monorail, but also express. I havent seen anything on the Disney website, so hoping all it well this time around.
The monorail is working just fine, save for routine maintenance and weather related issues. We've had just the opposite luck with the boat; always, there when we need it! 😉 we always took the monorail to MK tho and usually the boat back.

We're headed to stay at the Poly two weeks from today - yay! :flower1: We haven't stayed there in probably six or more years, so there's been a few changes since then with pool refurbs and whatnot so I have a few questions...

On our arrival day, we'll probably get to the resort at about noon, but we're not heading into the parks until the evening. My plan is to head to the Oasis pool and camp there until our room is ready, and get lunch at the Oasis Pool Bar and Grill, which I don't think was there during our last stay? Not sure...Anyway, my thought is to avoid the Lava pool since it would probably be more hectic? I tried to rent one of the patios, but I was too late with that inspiration and they are all booked!

Is there a fair amount of shady spots at the Oasis pool? We could always eat in the restaurant area, since I think they have some outdoor seating...How is the Oasis Pool Bar and Grille? Menu looks fun. I guess we could always try a walk up at Kona Café and pool afterwards if we feel like we are melting upon arrival!

We love the Oasis Grille! Everything we tried was very good. All seating Is covered. There is a fair amount of shady spots at the Oasis Pool, it just depends when you get there and who else is there.

My guess tho is by the time you arrive around noon, take in the Poly 🌺 have lunch at CCooks (which you can bring over to the quieter Tiki Terrace) or lunch at the Oasis Grill, your room will be ready!

Enjoy!🌺

I have a lunch reservation at 11:30am at LTT on our check in day. We will already be in FL, spending 4 days visiting other parks prior to the Disney portion of our trip. I did online checkin with a 10:30am arrival. I assume our room wont be ready (though we have gotten lucky in the past) and we have FP+ after lunch and will not get back to the Poly until around 4.

Question is.....will they hold our luggage somewhere in the lobby area? I dont want to leave it in the hot car all day because I will have makeup, disposable contacts and such in the suitcases..or at least in one of them. This is my first summer trip and never had to worry about the inside of the car being over 100 degrees!!

Thx

You can give your luggage to bell services when you arrive at the resort (assuming you're going there first to park your car, then heading over to the park). Then when you go to your room later you can either collect your luggage yourself from bell services or call and have it delivered to your room.

HOW COOL! 8-)

I have breakfast planned at GF on my birthday, then rented a patio at the Oasis pool for 1/2 day, then onto DHS for dinner at Brown Derby followed by Fantasmic (my favorite nighttime show). Was thinking of having cake at the pool..just me, hubby and my youngest child (2 older ones didnt want to take 2 weeks off of work, using all their vacation time) ... but people on the cake thread gave good advise to not do it because weather is so unpredictable. Still debating if I should have a cake sent to a restaurant while Im there. Doesnt make sense to me to have it on a non birthday day (we'll be there 10 days) and I LOVE the desserts at HBD, which are included on our dining plan. I cant decide and Im running out of time!

What are your birthday plans?

OMGosh, 10 days! I was happy with 7 days but now I'm jealous!!!

Well, my DH and I have Saturday to Saturday at the Poly. My mom and dad arrive in the RV to Fort Wilderness on Monday with my cousin joining them from St Augustine. Other cousins arrive on Monday for their stay at OKW with my aunt and uncle joining them on Tuesday. Girlfriends arrive on Tuesday to join us at the Poly. We all depart on Saturday, 8/3.

MK is my birthday Park on the 1st. BOG breakfast at 8:45am and then Cali Grill at 5pm followed by the After Fireworks Dessert Party for all of us. We plan to drink around the World at EPCOT on Wednesday, 7/31. We have Princess and Tigger and Piglet drinking shirts with the guys in matching Prince beer mug shirts.

For your cake.....how about a dome cake or a mini tier cake at a restaurant on the eve of your birthday ? Just enough of something to make it feel special!!

Are there laundry facilities in each long house? If not where are they located? Also, I'm assuming that there are small packs of soap you can buy, correct?
The regular laundry room is by Lilo’s Playhouse. It is $3 for wash and $3 to dry. Machines work on credit card. There is a vending machine with detergent in there too. Detergent and Fabric softener is $1.

You can check status on https://www.laundryview.com/home/4215/456961001/POLYNESIAN-VILLAGE-RESORT/TANGAROA-TERRACE.

If you stay in a DVC unit there is a laundry room in Moorea. Machines are free but fewer machines and harder to find open machine. Plus I always seem to laundry late at night and not sure if I could get into Moorea after 11:00 PM when they lock the doors.

Your plans sound amazing! Lucky to have so many family/friends celebrating with you.

Really great idea about the Birthday Eve! We have an ADR at 8pm at Artist Point. Desserts (and food in general) dont look amazing, but Im going for the characters and the 1st time experience with this as a character meal. My DD is a big Snow White fan. She is dressing as Evie, daughter of Snow White from Descendants, for the MNSSHP. With dessert being around 9pm, its really only a few hours from my real birthday! Plus Ill have a car and we can bring any leftovers back to the room easily. GREAT idea!!!! Thank you so much!!!!

That's good to hear - I'm really looking forward to trying it! We'll probably just eat and then change, since by that point we'll probably be pretty hungry. We've been fairly lucky in the past getting into our room early, so maybe you're right, but either way, we'll find something to do! Can't wait! Thanks!

@bcuinohio - that laundry link is great! I don't think I'll need it this time around (short trip), but I can think of many past trips when that would have been very handy!

That sounds like a perfect place to have your birthday eve!
