I asked earlier but no one answered - maybe it got missed or maybe it's just no one has any idea! For GV CL with the pool renovation, do you think first floor or third floor would be preferable? First floor (as long as they are using it) appears to pretty much look straight to the decorated fence, but at least you don't see all of the machines/dirt. Third floor would give you the view of the dirt piles, workers, machines, etc but at least you aren't looking right at a wall. Thoughts? I know it's pretty much a matter of opinion, but I'm gathering opinions before I make my own :rotfl:

We stayed GV CL in January during construction on the lagoon side (they were finishing up the bungalow area.) Or at least we booked GV CL - they upgraded us to LV CL on the first floor! Our ground floor view was of the fence in front, bungalows and castle straight ahead and lagoon/GF to the side. Having viewed the construction from the ground floor (from our room) and the third floor (from the lounge) I'd go with a request for the first floor. Sounds like they are going out of rotation soon, but if they are still around, I'd prefer grass/fence/sky over the construction pit view.

Just got back last night from a Polynesian villa stay and watched wishes from the beach in front of the pool on Fri night there wasn't any music piped in.

Hope you had a great trip :wizard:.

Question..... We r staying on the magical deal. I'm trying to figure my money, if I have extra and can work it out (can't do it before need that last pay check to pull it off) could I ask to upgrade us to CL and pay the difference at check in, if there r rooms available? Anyone know if these is possible....thank u

You should be able to upgrade if a CL room is available. With that said, you might be quoted the difference of what you paid and rack rate as discounts don't usually carry over if you upgrade room types at check in (although anything is possible, so it never hurts to ask). Have a great trip! :wizard:

18 days!! I really don't know what to do with myself. I've planned everything that I can plan.

I don't like being on the first floor, so my choice would be 3rd floor ;).

Thanks for the reply! We actually had that same situation happen to us when they were working on the bungalows - we were put in room 1515 which faced the lagoon but we paid from a GV CL room! At first I didn't like looking at the fence, but in that case when you looked to the left you had the clear view of the GF and lagoon and at night we could see wishes and the water parade so I quickly decided looking at the undecorated fence straight out was worth it! What made me feel differently in this case is that it's simply straight at a fence, there is nothing better if you look right or left and no fireworks!:rotfl2:However, I am leaning towards requesting ground floor even though I normally would much prefer a balcony for the reason you mentioned. The construction pit pics I've seen do look particularly hideous. I just keep telling myself that I'll be staying in a CL room on the monorail at WDW, so I should just enjoy it and not worry about what I can't change! However, that does't stop me from perseverating on it now:D

I would love others thoughts! If you've stayed either view since the quiet pool construction started (I know that's unlikely, as it just got going recently, but I can hope) what did you think?

I got a letter from poly about construction on the pool. Never been to poly. What pool is it? I know the main lava pool is now open. Will there be a kiddy pool/area open?

That would be the East Pool or Quiet Pool. The main pool with the kiddie play area is open.

Now I have one vote for the first and one for the third! I need a tiebreaker! I'm so easily swayed, whatever anyone else writes always sounds good to me! :rotfl2: Normally I would be all over third floor with a balcony, but with the pit view I just don't know... I did enjoy the first floor LV when we had it, but the view helped that a lot... Maybe I should just not put in a request, since it doesn't seem like anything is obviously better than the rest. :confused3 Even the second floor without outdoor space wouldn't be as "bad" as normal, given the lack of view, and then you have easy lounge access... I don't see me hanging out on the balcony watching that view.

Who am I kidding, I'll end up putting in a request. I'll just debate what request up until I put it in, and then second guess myself over and over again!:rotfl:

I'm booked in CL GV and my online check-in window is in 9 days, is there any advantage to doing online check-in with this room category? If so what options would be offered?
You will be able to request a longhouse, as well as first floor / third floor. Second floor rooms only have a Juliet balcony, so if outdoor space is important, you may want to select first/third.

If your booking a regular villa or bungalow stay not as a DVC member you may book that at any time if available.

Yes, I booked a studio immediately after they opened, and I'm not a DVC member.

If I care most about getting close to monorail transportation - what building should I request?

I'd go with first floor. Slightly quicker exit from the room to your mode of transportation to the park, other areas of the resort, etc. On the other hand, 3rd floor has no upper neighbor to possibly make noise.....

A lot of good I am.....:crazy2:

Long with the fact there are more rooms in Rarotonga our chances of being on the non -construction side was better.

I stayed in Rarotonga a few years ago, facing the east pool. Honestly, I didnt even know a pool was there until one morning I heard the lifeguards doing a drill and really looked. Between some foliage/trees, I could see a little pool water and some movement from people. Basically Im saying even if you face that side, you may not be able to see the ugliness!!

She's CL! She will automatically be in Hawaii!

I would make your request "close to monorail". That will give you the best shot at getting your request. From speaking to a couple different room assigners over the years, all 3 recommended describing what you want instead of asking for a certain room or building. It gives them so many more options to get you what you want that way.

I agree with Dansdad. Request what you want to be close to rather then a specific longhouse. If you just put a longhouse request and it isn't possible to give you that longhouse, they'll have no idea why you requested that location and put you anywhere. There are several long houses that will put you close to monorail. And really, there's no where that's over a 5 min walk to the GCH.

22 days out for us!

is there an easy way to get/make hot water in the room?
Rooms have Cusinart coffee makers. I've used them for plain hot water to make instant oatmeal. They have 2 sides, each making a cup.
The counter service, Captain Cooks has hot water tanks.

What is the latest on the monorail? Are there still shortened hours or is it running on a normal schedule yet? Is bus travel from the Poly any problem in the morning to MK?

Yeah, the view of the quiet pool isn't the best right now :sad2:. I agree about the 2nd floor, it would be nice to be close to the lounge. Good luck deciding. Keep in mind that if you get a room that you don't care for, you could always ask if a different room is available. It's not guaranteed your room can be changed, but it never hurts to ask ;).

I agree with dansdad to request "close to monorail". There are few longhouses that meet that request, so the room assigner will have a few choices :).

Good points for both choices ;).
