I have read several posts about Disney taking lots of shots of my kids.....If I understand correctly they will take candid shots of my kids ...and obviously others too! ;) and I can go to Shutters to view them later...is that right??

Do they offer packages to purchase these photos? Are they outrageously expensive??

I love the idea of not having to wander around stressing about documenting every moment of our vacation, so I'd love to hear your experience with Disney's photos...

I would also take a digital camera since they are so reasonable now. The candid pictures they take around the ship including the embarcation photo are 6x8. If I remember correctly you can get a package of 10 for $89.99 for the 6x8 size. The formal - posed pictures in front of a background are 8 x 10s and are $19.99 each. They will all be displayed at Shutters and are usually excellent so we all spend WAY too MUCH money on them.

But the memories are priceless.

The DCL photographers have taken beautiful pictures of my kids. My favs are the ones at Castaway Cay. They grace the halls of my home as we speak.

I do have to say that I had to grab the photographer on all my pictures. I've never once gone into Shutters to see a surprise photo of my kids. (This does not include the photo opportunities where you line up.)

Just this last 6/25 cruise, my DH had to ask a photographer to take pictures of DD in the pool. They are all around, but there are also alot of people on board so don't be shy! When you see them, ask them to take a picture of your loved ones. They really are so happy to do so!

I have the cutest picture of my DS12 (the one that hates to have his picture taken). They gave him one of those life perserver thingys that hang on the wall by pools all over the world and it had DISNEY CRUISE on it. It's soooo cute. And I had them take pictures of my DS14 laying on the hammock and all 3 kids hanging on raft with the Magic in the background. Priceless!

One thing I noticed that the photographers did different this year was, they had a photo op outside of Luminers that only had an entire white back drop.... from the ceiling almost to the feet of the photographer. These pictures didn't contain any DCL logos or any pictures of boats in the back ground but as I saw all the pictures in Shutters, I just had to have our family do this shot. They were my favorites. These were kinda like, everyone put a jeans top or maybe white pants, like you were taking the picture on the beach with shoes off. I was laying down, daughter sitting on my back and one with all 3 kids casually draped over DH and I, tons of different casual arrangements. (You didn't have to be casual, we also took the same shot in our formal wear.) I had a hard time picking my favorites.

:maleficen Can I just ask what the heck is this? Looks like a gremlin with pom poms jumping on his stomach, feet all up in the air on my trampoline.

Hee :goodvibes

The candid shots that the photographer took are my absolute favorite :sunny: ...they are not really candid...my girls are looking right at the camera with a nice smile...but they were not the ones we stood in line for and struck a pose...they were of them out and about on the ship. All of the "candid" shots were for me suprise photos....because I never saw the photographer take the shots of my kids. The other poster made a good point...as not to be shy...and just ask the photographer to take some shots. I'm going to do that this trip :goodvibes

I think that's Maleficent from Sleepy Beauty. She's the one who casts the spell on on Princess Aurora and the entire castle goes to sleep........this one is scarier than the original though...especially with all that bouncin'!

There seems to be more and more photographers popping up all over the place each cruise we go on. We do have to grab them sometimes as well.

We love the Lifestyle portraits..done in casual clothes, barefeet, on a white background.

We didn't see any candid shots of our kids. Nor did we see a lot of photographers around (we cruised on the Wonder about 18 months ago). Had I depended on Disney to document the vacation, we would have a few posed photos.

Being an "older" family (2 adults and a teen!) there were 2 pictures of our family on the 7 night. The embarkment picture and 1 picture of us at dinner. No candids at all. This is good and it is bad.

1st the cm at Shutters was a little frustrated with me about not buying the package. Ok, who was right!!!!

2nd-We had no desire to wait in the terrible lines for the posed pictures with a teen boy. Those of you who have one, know what I mean. Especially on formal night when he had to wear a suit. Oh the horror!!!!

3rd-I know the big sellers are pictures of the little kids, but do they ever take candid pictures of just adults or go into the Teen clubs or on the Teen Wild Side?

On the other hand, I did get off the ship with only $20 in pictures. But it would have been nice to have a choice.

For those of you who want something special, the pictures made with the white background can be made into a laser "crystal" that lights up. DD brought me a keychain and a 4 x 6 plaque that sits in a base. Extra $$$ of course but really different. Don't ask me how they do it but REALLY neat.

My family and I just got back from our first Disney Cruise. We were lucky and had a selection of pictures to choose from. My favorites were the ones from pirate night and the pictures from Castaway Cay. In fact in CC they took pictures while the kids were in the tubes and floating on the rafts. We didn't take the Lifestyle shots but my brother and his family did and they came out fabulous!

We were on the May 5, 2005 Western Magic. There were many many candid photos done of our kids. At dinner, Castaway Cay, Palos, etc. We spent alot of $$ on the pictures. My problem is the 6 X 8 size of the pictures. I've been having a hard time finding frames of that size. I haven't take the time to scan and resize them to 5 X 7 or 4 X 6. Has anyone found frames of the 6 X 8 size? Where?

Same here ... I sailed on the Wonder last September ... no candid shots of my grandkids (7, 9 and 10) at Shutters and the only photographers I saw were for the "stand in line photos" ... the exception being that DD made a frame in the club and it had a photo of her and Mickey in it.

But since I had my trusty digi-camera I took plenty of photos. And I ended up downgrading my picture package at Shutters b/c there weren't enough photos available ... and that's after I bought some of the "postcard" type photos (can think of the right word).

-----

Naturally the moment I hit the post button I remember ... I bought "stock photos" to help use up my photo package.

When do they take the Lifestyle photos? I would like to get a casual shot of us in denim but that would have to be during the day. Do you make appointments for this shot? TIA!

Frankly, I think the photographers are as available as you would like them to be. We were not interested in standing in line for characters since we see them all the time in DL and I never saw a single pic taken poolside, so our family had about 5 shots b/w formal night and embarkation to choose from....our table mates who were an older couple traveling w/their granddaughter would accost photographers whenever they saw them (knew them ALL by name by midcruise) and had HUNDREDS of pics of the grandkid w/every character, backdrop, etc imaginable (I figured this 3 yr old will go home and tell mom that all she did was take pics).

The informal white background pics were NOT by appointment but they appeared to be set up my midafternoon later in the cruise so early dinner people could do it before dinner easily...that is the one shot I wish we had stood in line for in hindsight...guess we have to go again just to do the pics!

Anyway, some of the photographers appeared good (quick at arranging the shot and taking it) while others seemed to be there b/c they had to be (one french lady photographer was busy picking her nose in the dining room while barking orders to families on how to arrange the kids for character breakfast pictures).

I completely agree!! In fact, we must be the strange ones here, but we didn't buy a single photo on board - because of this! I thought, wow, how am I going to find a frame for this, except for buying a custom one, which would be another $50 to $100.

Maybe someone can clue me in - why aren't they offered in 5 v 7 or even 4 v 6. There were a few I would have bought, but it wasn't worth the hassle to me.

I also have to add, I have 2 DD's, they were 2 & 4 on the trip, and my 2 year old was TERRIFIED of all the characters so I didn't get a single "family" photo with the characters. Had a few cute ones with DD4, but didn't buy.

Can you ask for a smaller size?

Your album is so beautiful...I'm sure I'll use it for inspiration after our 8/6 DC down to Mexico! Gotta go see the rest of your album...I stopped midway to let you know how beautiful it is! Did I mention it's beautiful??? Thanks for sharing! :cheer2:

I just came back from a land/sea vacation and was just thinking that it would have been great to have PhotoPass available on the ships; this way we can have all of our vacation photos together to share and order at our leisure.

I think they don't offer the pics in sizes like 4x6 or 5x7 because the odd size beleive it or not...is the standard size for professional photos. You could probabley find frames at a professional photo shop....or even get larger frames and use a mat. I scrapbook...so most of my photos from the ship go right into the albums..just a little trim here and there and I have the size I want. They also sell the "odd" sized frames on the ship as well as Disney stores and I'm guessing at the parks. :goodvibes

CA Mom...thanks

How do you find the candid shots of your family? If they don't have your name, how are they sorted? Or do you have to look through pictures of everyone onboard to see if there are any of your family?
