Disney's Magical Express -- Luggage Tag Info

If everything is arranged for MDE, but one person in the party is now not able to fly to WDW until the next day, does MDE need the updated information? Thanks

Not really. You could give them a call and have them update their records, but you don't 'have to'. I've had members of my group arrive on different days, with no problem at all.

I apologize if this has been ask and answered in the previous 100 pages. I booked my flight after booking the resort reservation and wondering who do I contact to make the ME reservation Disney or ME. There use to be an option the add ME after booking - but I think this was before MDE. TIA

You can call back to Disney at one of their reservation lines, such as (407) 939-1936, to have them add Magical Express for you.

This is a very long thread - please forgive me if this info (really, suggestions) has already been posted....

Here are the steps my wife and I take, with every ME Yellow Tag Experience....

1) The greatest danger you face is from.... AIRLINE BAGGAGE MONKEYS. That Yellow Tag, without care, will be dismembered.
2) DO NOT attach those tags to any handles or grips that the Airline Monkey's may grab.
3) Rivet a strip of leather to the Front of your bag to hold the tag.
4) TAPE the folding seam of the Tag with CLEAR Packaging tape to re-enforce it. You should only be able to CUT it off.
5) MAKE A COPY of the tag, your RES NUMBER, your contact info while on the road, your Cell Phone Number, and put it RIGHT ON TOP of your clothes in your zipped bag. When the bag ends up in Uzbekistan, someone will see this.... Perhaps they will understand English.
6) USE THAT CELLPHONE - take a PHOTO of your bag(s) with TAG in place. KEEP the photo, and PRINT a copy of it to CARRY. This is for....
7) "WHERE IS MY BAG?" - delivered to the WDW Bell Captain. Give him the PHOTO, your Airline BAG CHECK NUMBER(s) - then go have dinner. Really, these folks are VERY GOOD :).
8) If you did all this? That WDW Bell Captain has something to work with. In over 30 trips, this happened to us ONCE - and Disney came through :). But just in case....
9) Get Good Trip Insurance - then file a claim the second you don't have a bag. The compensation for Lost or DELAYED bags can be substantial.
10) IF YOU HAVE MORE THAN ONE BAG... Cross-pack. Not a solution - just damage mitigation. Cross-packing means that if ONE bag shows up, EVERYONE gets something. These are just containers.... No one will judge you if a portion of your wife's underwear is in "your" bag.

Again - not Gospel - just what WE do.

I just contacted DME about my luggage tags and confirmation letter. In the past I have received a booklet with vouchers for the DME. He informed me this is all I will receive. No more booklets. The confirmation letter is all I need. I am good to go!!

I have never, ever, had a luggage tag come off or be otherwise damaged. These aren't merely paper....and they are incredibly sticky! I have always had to make a concerted effort to get them off! I'm amazed that anyone has had this happen. And I always put them on my handles...always.
It's always a good idea to put something identifying inside your luggage. I have a business card that I use for this purpose. It has my name and cell phone number. I also stick a piece of paper to it that has where I am going....destination airport and resort name...no matter where I am traveling.
Thanks for the tips.

I love DME and will continue to use them. Love that I can go from the airplane straight to a bus and head to my resort. I did have an extended wait on my luggage last fall while staying at Boardwalk. Not sure what happened but it was about 5+ hours before I saw my luggage. I did place my yellow tags on the side handle instead of the top handle - maybe it got overlooked. All other times I have used DME, no problems at all.

I received my DME luggage tags today, 3 months and 2 weeks prior to my upcoming trip. I never received them this early. The only problem is that they are for the wrong resort!!!! :sad2:

And I'm less than 3 weeks out and have not received my luggage tags. I just made my 3rd call to ME for the tags. Was told again that they will get them out to me. *crossing fingers*

I would rather use the tags than have to give claim tickets and describe my bag at ME check in.

We are arriving at 9:40pm, wondering if is is best for us to pick up our own luggage or let DME get it and deliver. We already know we want to make it to park open the next day so I wasn't sure how long they deliver at night or how early we could get it in the morning. I think the best thing is to just get the luggage ourselves but others traveling don't want to deal with it and just get to the hotel to rest up for the morning. Thoughts?

DME stops picking up luggage at 10:00 pm, so it's possible that your luggage wouldn't get off the plane and to the baggage area before DME leaves for the day. And since they say you'll get your luggage about 3 hours after you check in, even if your luggage does make it to the baggage area in time, your hotel wouldn't have it until well after midnight. I would get it yourselves.

Without question, if I were arriving at 9:40pm I would pick up my own luggage.

I tend to get my own bags (leave off the yellow tags before checking them at your home airport!!) if I'm arriving past 7:30ish. I'm usually tired and just want to go to bed at that point, so don't want to be up waiting for my bags.

I do not want to use the tags, I would like to claim my bags a baggage claim before boarding DME buses. I also have a SIL and MIL with us who may want to use their tags so they can go right to the buses. How much time does it typically take at baggage claim? Will me wanting to be in control of my luggage make for a long wait for her?

It takes anywhere from 15-30 mins at baggage claim. If your bags are among the last to show up, it could take 30 mins.

I have used Magic Express a few times before. It says you must take the bus in order to use the luggage delivery. In the past my family has rented a car and while I drove it everyone else took the bus. My luggage still arrived in my room. Question is do you really need to take the bus to use the luggage delivery service or is that just something they say that you should do?

There is an entire sticky thread regarding this. You should be able to find all the info you need over there.
