2 weeks from today, we will be there!!

I am so excited!! Just a random question- on arrival day, I had planned to just hang out at the resort, maybe hit the pool and eat a dinner at Contempo Cafe. It is a normal Wishes night at MK, and I know there is an observation deck where they can be seen, but how about other locations? We will be staying in the Garden Wing, so no view from our beds

.
When we stayed at Poly, we watched them from the beach. Is that possible at CR?
I believe that BLT and CR block most of the view of Wishes from the beach/pool area:
THE WISHES NIGHTLY MAGIC KINGDOM FIREWORKS last about 12 minutes.
Preferred CR/BLT viewing locations:
~Magic Kingdom/Theme Park View Tower rooms/balconies. (And Atrium and Tower Club balconies.)
~BLT Magic Kingdom/Theme Park View rooms/balconies and some Bay Lake View rooms on the north side.
~The beach offers an obstructed view.
~California Grill restaurant and observation deck (exclusively for guests with same-day reservations only).
~CR fourth floor observation deck.
I've always liked the Contemporary, but also found its service to be a little ... off. My most recent experience, over the holiday weekend, seemed to confirm that.
There were no major problems (unlike some prior trips), but an assortment of small oddities - e.g., a clogged tub drain, a room clock that was 30 minutes fast, a set of hand towels the first night that were visibly yellow, and a front desk that didn't know the TV channel for the Wishes music simulcast.
This doesn't seem to happen to me at other Disney resorts, so I'm curious if others get the same unexpected not-quite-ready-for-prime-time vibe?
We've experienced similar issues over the years, but nothing that would keep us from returning. Unlike you though, we've experienced these kinds of minor issues (and some not so minor) at all the Disney Resorts. I try to notify someone so that problems can be corrected and small problems don't become big ones, but it doesn't always get corrected prior to check-out. It would be nice if there was more overall consistency with housekeeping, management and food & beverage services. Overall, they're small things that you think should be fairly easy to correct resort-wide.
Has anyone ever called the resort to see if they were assigned a room number? Has anyone ever not liked their room location and was able to upgrade upon check in?
For security reasons, room numbers are never released prior to check-in and then they are only released when they are actually ready for occupancy.
You can always ask at check-in for a general description of your room's location, even if it isn't ready yet. If it sounds like it doesn't match the requests you have in your reservation, you can always ask if a room closer to your request is available. Sometimes it will be available and sometimes it might be available after one night and they will offer to move you the next day.
If you ask to be upgraded, be prepared to pay usually the rack rate difference, though sometimes the discounted difference, between what you booked and the upgraded room.
