Resort Thread Disney's BOARDWALK INN Resort

You will (hopefully) love this festival! We did last year - they've added food booths all over Epcot, and opened up the old Wonders of Life pavilion for talks about nature (DD and I enjoyed one lady's talk about bird photography).

We all enjoyed a few tastings of foods (the shrimp & grits were wonderful!). They are just tastings though, so you can end up spending a lot!

The concerts are neat - I can't wait to see who will be playing next year. We got to see two shows of "The Orchestra" which featured many original members of ELO - they totally rocked!

They have beautiful flower displays, and a butterfly house. It's so nice to be right by Epcot - we went every day last time!

Thank you for this - do they release a schedule so you know what talks / concerts are available?
It sounds great;)

You have all been so great with answering my questions! I have 3 more for you....

What time do I have to leave BWV to be near the front (do not need to be first in line) of line at International Gateway?

Do they let you in the park before 9am or is it 9am on the dot?

I do not know how long the walk would be, but is it possible to do Sum of all Thrills before a 9:30am Akershus ressie?

Thank you!

Hello,

It's just occurred to me that when we are staying at BWV (arriving May 4th ) it will be Epcot's flower& garden festival.

We've never visited this time of year so have no experience of what to expect

Does anyone have any information on this? Do the Epcot resorts do anything for this?

Thanks

Information for the festival isn't out yet, probably will hear something around January? It runs from March 4th to May 17th.

The resorts don't do anything special. Everything is within the park, although there is a beautiful display of flowers as you approach the International Gateway.

The walk is no more tha 10 minutes at a leisurely pace. We've never been let in before 9, then there is bag check and all that. I don't think you could do that and make your ADR on time.

We just returned from our first stay at BWI. I couldn't have been more pleased with our room and experience. We were in room 5268 standard view. But for a standard view it was magnificent. By day we could see the courtyard and gardens from the cottages, by night spectacular view of the fireworks and show from Epcot. My girls loved curling up with pillows and watching the fireworks from our balcony. I have to say a great big thank you to everyone on this board. Your advice was impeccable esp for someone who's never stayed at this resort. We look forward to returning to Disney in a few years and definitely plan on returning to BWI. Thanks again for all who post their wisdom, as it truly helped to make our trip extra magical!!!

Sounds like a great trip and excellent room! Glad you enjoyed!

This is something they've changed back and forth on, and it sometimes varies by season and park. Sometimes they will open 10-20 minutes before the official park open. When they do at Epcot, they'll open both the main entrance and the IG at the same time. Bag check is always quick at IG.

But I still wouldn't try for it unless they did open early. You could get there early and just hope they do open, and if they don't, you could try to get into Akershus early and just get a jump on the rest of the day.

This is a question on BWV Garden/pool view rooms
I booked this room category as we have two kids 4 and under, one of whom will likely need an afternoon nap, and both of whom will be in bed by 9pm (at the latest). We figured boardwalk view may be asking for noise so avoided it.
Does anyone know from experience if garden/pool view is a good choice for minimizing outside noise? I had heard that the rooms overlooking the main pool (Luna?) can get noisy (music) but not sure how accurate this is.
Thanks in advance
BTW kids seem to sleep through the 9pm EPCOT fireworks (Beach club villas past 2 years) so that won't be an issue

Hello! Our first stay is coming up and I am wondering if you think the views are better if you request to be away from the lobby? We have booked a 1 bedroom standard view. We are DVC. Thanks!

Our first stay as a whole family was at the BWV in a one bedroom (kids were 2 and 4). We had a pool view, and it was always quiet, except for a couple minutes you can hear the fireworks from Illuminations. I wouldn't worry about noise (but I always request a room on a high floor if possible).

At that age, my kids actually took a nice long nap in the stroller most days. I had brought along our fairly heavy but super comfy Peg Perego Tandem Twin double stroller, so they could both recline nicely for a nap. We didn't go commando, but if we were at Animal Kingdom, it was nicer for them to nap in the stroller than to head back to the resort for a nap (and DS at 4 wouldn't want to nap in bed anyway - he'd fight it but in the stroller he napped great, and of course at home he didn't nap ever unless it was a car ride).

We also had the kids in bed usually by 8 or so - no issues with noise really.

To minimize any hallway noise, I don't mind a room far from the elevators. Another couple minutes of walking is fine to me, since we walk so much at Disney anyway. I think you'll be fine, and it wouldn't be worth it to try and get a Boardwalk view. Not that I think it would be super noisy, but if you open the balcony door you'd get that noise.

Can't believe we leave in 4 days! So many people give us looks when we tell them we're going to Disney for 30th anniversary. Their loss! :cool1:

It's going to be a relaxed week- even with the planning of fastpasses so we we might do a DVC tour. We should have bought years ago!

Enjoy to everyone that's going in the future!

The standard views on the villa side do have better views further from the lobby. Less parking lot and more greens and the big fountain. But far from the lobby can be pretty far! That would bring you closer for walking to DHS though.

Enjoy your trip!! Happy 30th as well, wow! If you do think of DVC, research resale as well. It's not for everyone, but it saved us a lot of money. You do know we expect pictures! :3dglasses

Thank you! I'll try , my picture taking skills aren't the greatest. lol

I just booked the Illumination dessert party for our first night on the 14th?
Has anyone done it? I know it may not be worth it but as long as I know we'll be at Epcot that night, thought we'd try it.

Happy Veterans Day here in the U.S. For those who have served our country, and the families that give so much to support them. We wouldn't be able to go to places like WDW and the BW if not for people like you! Thank you!

Thanks for everyone's input on my question- it sounds like we'll be fine in any room - ideally high enough overlooking the quiet pool. I think park naps in strollers may be in order as well- but we do love winding down at our resort for a few hours in the afternoon given the kids are up at around 6-6:30am!

Does anyone know if the laundry machines are coin operated still? Or are they now connected to magic bands? Not that I'm spending a lot of time doing laundry, but I can imagine I'll be doing one or two loads like it or not while were there. Thanks! :laundy:

They are still coin operated. I just checked out on Saturday.
