Resort Thread Disney's BOARDWALK INN Resort

Hi everyone! We just got back Wed. night from our 2nd stay at BWV...and wow did we have fun. :)

First day had a few bumps in the road. We had booked garden/pool view. I had requested upper floor, close to lobby. (I know, requests aren't guaranteed). Initally we were in 3021. All we could see were tree tops! This was basically the same view we had BLT std. view in August. I called and just let them know that I was a bit disappointed, so they did offer to change it. They moved us to 4012. Pretty much the same view, except that we could easily see TOT out of our window, and just a little bit of the top of the Sorcerer's hat and the Earful Tower out of our window. We were okay with that. Then we noticed one of our (brand new) suitcases was damaged. No complaints though: first they offered to fix it, then when they couldn't, they replaced with a new one. It is probably a better brand than the one we had.

It was FREEZING when we arrived on Saturday...I screen shot my phone which reported that it was 45 degrees out!!!!!! Needless to say, we didn't get to use the pool the first day. We did use it every day after that. (my son had goosebumps getting out of the pool on Sunday like I've never seen!!) I love the pool activities in the afternoons, even though my kids are older. The bartenders were very good Even in frigid temps for a New England girl, I enjoyed my Mai Tai. :) I'm not sure I've ever had a tropical drink wearing sweats before!!!

My DH and I really enjoy the Belle Vue Lounge in the evenings. It's a great, usually quiet spot to relax and chat about the day you just enjoyed, and plan the next day coming up. (ahem, people who were letting their son use his race cars all across the floor at 10pm....not cool. I'm not talking little matchbox-style cars, but large, have a ripcord-so-they-fly-across-the-room cars.) In any case, the bartenders were great, I love that I can grab a snack at the Bakery and bring it up there to enjoy with a glass of wine at night. We'll be back there next trip. :)

We visited the BoardWalk Bakery twice over our four night stay. While I love getting to walk downstairs, take in the view of Crescent Lake, and then walk back with something delicious in my little box...they really need more help. It's not so much that it's crazy busy...it's that they only have 3 cast members taking orders for pastries, making hot sandwiches, lattes, and manning the cash register. The other thing is that we aren't coffee drinkers, so when we want to use tea in our refillable mug, we have to interrupt one of those poor CM's to get us hot water and tea bags, since they don't leave them out to serve ourselves. It was a really fun treat for those two days, but wow we waited 20mins in line for 2 pastries. You can't do that every day. (there were only 5 of us total in line at the time)

This remains one of our favorite resorts, particularly for Food and Wine Festival. Getting to look at that lake, and across to the Yacht and Beach Club...and hear the horns of the Friendship Boats, are priceless. I'm already looking forward to next fall.
I know I'm late replying, but thank you for posting honestly about your stay.

Does anyone know what brand mattresses are used in the BWI? We were in room 3275 and had the best night's sleep ever. I should have looked under the sheets before we left but forgot to. Can someone look for me that's still there??? Thanks!
Bumping...and I found that wdwinfo reported that the POR mattresses are Sealy Posturepedic Monogram series 400 plush, however, I don't know if this information is current and the same for BWI.

Returning for our second trip to BWV in June (2nd-7th) with a preferred view studio before moving over to BLT for 4 more nights! :cool1:
Posted your BLT dates and now I'll post your BWV dates:)

We leave Wednesday and it will be our first stay at BWV (11/12-11/18). I'm so excited! Reading all of your comments has me thinking we definitely picked the perfect place!!

:cheer2::cheer2::cheer2:
I hope you had an easy trip and you're enjoying your stay.

We just returned from our first stay at BWI. I couldn't have been more pleased with our room and experience. We were in room 5268 standard view. But for a standard view it was magnificent. By day we could see the courtyard and gardens from the cottages, by night spectacular view of the fireworks and show from Epcot. My girls loved curling up with pillows and watching the fireworks from our balcony. I have to say a great big thank you to everyone on this board. Your advice was impeccable esp for someone who's never stayed at this resort. We look forward to returning to Disney in a few years and definitely plan on returning to BWI. Thanks again for all who post their wisdom, as it truly helped to make our trip extra magical!!!
So glad you had a magical vacation. See you in a few years:)

Hello. I was hoping to ask for a favor. Can anyone staying at the Boardwalk Inn now or in the next 2 weeks or so tell me if their gift shop sells the additional monorail tracks for the monorail playset, and how much they are. Thanks!
Bumping...

:confused3Has anyone had breakfast at Flying Fish? what do you think?
If your question isn't answered here, you could try the DINING/RESTAURANT forum. I couldn't find any online breakfast reviews.

Can't believe we leave in 4 days! So many people give us looks when we tell them we're going to Disney for 30th anniversary. Their loss! :cool1:

It's going to be a relaxed week- even with the planning of fastpasses so we we might do a DVC tour. We should have bought years ago!

Enjoy to everyone that's going in the future!
Those silly people don't know what fun is. I hope you have a magical anniversary - congratulations!

Happy Veterans Day here in the U.S. For those who have served our country, and the families that give so much to support them. We wouldn't be able to go to places like WDW and the BW if not for people like you! Thank you!

So thoughtful of you, psac and ITA::yes::

To anyone who is there now, how cold is getting at night? Packing for Friday and getting ball the necessary clothes needed.

According to this morning's WDW weather widget, the overnight lows for the remainder of the week are 50's/60's, however, starting Tuesday, it shows lows in the mid 40's.

I'm in the midst of packing my entire closet to be prepared! Two more days!

I have a question about the new restaurant. My 180 days is coming up the first week of December will I be able make an ADR. My fiancé needs his Italian fix and judging by the menu this place is perfect. Plus it's close since will be renting DVC.

Yes. I've already made an ADR for our visit in March.

My wife and I will be trying it on opening night. It just happens to be while we're there on a night we didn't have an ADR, so we made it. I'll definitely post a review!

We check in to our first stay at boardwalk in 1 week. We are vaguely familiar with the area. We have stayed at beachclub and the swan in the past. What do I need to know about boardwalk? We are also using the dining plan which we dont normally use. So where do we get breakfast? I'm going to try to read through this thread before we go, but any tips would be great!

As a local who visits WDW for a week in December and a week in January, my advice is to pack items you can layer. I primarily wear short sleeve shirts because it can get very warm indoors. Then I pack a hoodie and a fleece jacket that I can wear individually or layer if necessary. A scarf and gloves also go in the suitcase. Sometimes I don't need the jackets at all, and sometimes I have to wear everything (remember December 2010?). If there is a cold wind, especially while waiting for Illuminations, I have been known to layer a rain poncho over everything to keep warm.

Layering works better than just a heavy coat because your needs during the day can change a lot. It is the best time of year to take advantage of the lockers so you don't have to carry so much around.

I am already packing for my return to BWI next month!

Yes, I do. I'm still thawing out from that! I'm a coastal NJ resident (read brrrrr for the winter) who threw the parkas, hats and gloves in the car before leaving. We have photos of all of us at 3 p.m. in the parks, using it all, and we were barely comfortable. Mornings were tough, as it really seemed to take forever for the sun to have any effect.

Assuming you are on regular DP. Boardwalk Bakery mentioned for QS credits. The Screen Door General Store also has snack credit items in the entrance closest to the green space.

Thanks, we can wait. Major packing to do this weekend! This will be our first time on the dining plan since 2008 I think. Definitely takes a little adjusting

We're here now! Spent the day at epcot and didn't get into our room until we got back around 7. We're on the inn side 4th floor, very nice location, close to the elevators with a HUGE balcony and unbelievable view of illuminations. It is a refurbished room, and I have to say I'm a little disappointed in the interior. Clean and everything- but I find the decor to be mismatched/odd. The bathroom is very modern while the other furniture isn't, etc. And I was hoping for a big squashy "deluxe" bed to sleep in - it's comfortable still! I'm not trying to sound like I'm complaining- just being honest! Overall very happy so far with all the CMs etc. MK tomorrow!

Thank you so much to everyone for all of the information on this great thread!

I am planning a trip to Disney in February 2015. I lost my husband of 15 years and the father of my 2 boys unexpectedly in February 2014. This trip is in memory and celebration of his life and it will be during the time of the one year anniversary of his passing. I am trying to make it as special as possible.

My mom will also be with us, she is 64 and has trouble with her knees so walking is really not an option. I am looking at renting a wheelchair or scooter and we also plan on some downtime so it will not be on the go the whole time we are there.

With all of that said, we will do a split stay. The first portion has been reserved at Grand Floridian, a resort my husband and I always said we would stay at. The last couple of nights I am looking at Boardwalk Inn. I would like to stay Club Level and have a Boardwalk view.

There is a standard club room available that sleeps 5; however, it states it COULD be 2 queens and a daybed or just 2 queens. I need the daybed in addition to the queens. Also, there MAY be a view of the Boardwalk or it could be of the leisure pool. Then there is a deluxe club level room available which guarantees everything I want. Of course this room is more expensive. Is the expense worth the experience and expense? Is there much activity on the BW during February or is too cold for anyone to be out? I like the hustle and bustle so that will not be an issue. Also, having a BW view, would we be able to see any of the fireworks?

Thank you for any advice and/or suggestions! :)

Great advice! And, I'm another one who remembers 12/10. We stayed over Christmas and on Christmas Day it was gorgeous and in the 70s when we went horseback riding in t-shirts. Other days were in the 40s during the day, but sunny so layering does work best. I remember that getting out of the hot tub at WL was soooo cold and unpleasant:cold:

Just booked our trip for Oct.!!! We did standard view (DVC) this time. :)
Congratulations and happy planning!

Thank you for your honest review of your room. I was confused, too that they didn't replace the armoires. HARASW was kind enough to email more BWI room photos to me recently because I thought they would have replaced the armoires, but they are the same old armoires and you're right that they really don't coordinate now with the new modern touches.

Thank you so much to everyone for all of the information on this great thread!

Frist of all, welcome to the thread, WDisneyMom! Secondly, I am so sorry for your loss. I think it's wonderful that you want to remember your DH by being at WDW to celebrate his life with your family. I'm sure it will be a bittersweet occasion, but one that will forever hold special memories for you and your family.

The scooter sounds like a great idea Vs. the wheelchair so that DM can get around more easily and you can as well.

I think the Deluxe CL rooms would be perfect for your family. It guarantees the BWV you want and accommodates 6 with a guaranteed two queens, though I believe that all the Standard rooms come with a daybed, the queen sleeper in the Deluxe room would be much roomier. The only disadvantage to the Deluxe room is that half of them are not on the 4th floor where the lounge is located. This could be a mobility issue for your mom, but you could request to be on the 4th floor.

I've never been to the BW in February so I can't comment on the BW crowd level. Happy planning!
