Disney's Art of Animation Resort (Part II)

I believe that I saw signs in the pics/video of the elephant boneyard that said "Paws on the Ground" No climbing, just walking through and in and out? It looks like an attractive nuisance if it wasn't built for climbing on. :confused3

Yes I saw that sign too. It kind of makes the area pointless. Very pretty, and a good photo op I guess, but it seems like a bit of a waste. Besides that though, I think it all looks beautiful. I love the hallways in the LK section. I'm staying in LM in March, and that area looks really cute too. I can't wait to see more!

Anyone that has been there know where the laundry room(s)are? We're staying in lion king if it matters. DH and I were just talking, we don't normally do laundry on vacation but with our newborn I think it will be a must!

There's a laundry room by the Big Blue pool. I don't know if there would be more in the other areas.

we are going to take or DD's 9 and 3 to Disney. We stayed at CBR with the oldest several years ago. Loved it but both girls love Ariel. So we will attempt to book the LM rooms.

Two questions

1) Does the AoA only have 1 bus stop like other value resorts?
2) I noticed that the amenities section said a mini fridge is in the room is this free or with a price? Are they in all rooms or just Suites?

Thanks

The suites have what I think of as slightly larger than a mini fridge, maybe 2 1/2 feet tall? I'm wondering if the LM rooms will have a true mini fridge, more like 1 1/2 feet tall.

I'm hoping that's because the area is not 'offically' open until Friday or else it's totally pointless.

Though can someone verify that it was going to be the Elephant 'Play'ground?? Did we just assume somewhere along the lines that it was more detailed?

And I found the offical press release:
It’s a journey through an African landscape in The Lion King complete with an elephant graveyard play area that invites youngsters to seek hakuna matata time.

hm..

maybe (hopefully) no climbing on it just yet b/c the paint is still fresh? If kids can't climb on it........yeah, good luck with that. I foresee lots of rogue kids trying to climb on it, parents yelling trying to get them down, lol.

This video shows the Lion King area at sunset. They walk through the small tunnel in the "play area". Looks like, as of now, that is all you can do. Hardly qualifies as a playground. It looks cool, but I can see how those waiting for a cool place to play with the kids would be disappointed.

I hope those tours are available even if you're not staying at the AoA resort. On my next trip, staying at AKL, one of my main "must do"s is going to the AoA resort for lunch, gelato, and now the tour is added.

I would imagine if you assemble for the tour they will include you. I can't imagine they would check to see your resort key; they just want to show off the resort to whoever is interested.

Yes, the laundries are in the separate restroom/changing/laundry buildings next to each pool (key access required) so there are laundries in the Nemo, Cars, and Little Mermaid sections. Lion King does not have a pool, so no dedicated laundry area.

Yes, I expect the LM fridges will be smaller than the suites and similar to the small fridges in use at Pop Century.

I thought that the 'Paws on the Ground' sign was just because it wasn't open yet, also. If it is just for 'walking thru', then it isn't much of a playground at all. It's really just a tease; you know that kids are just naturally going to want to climb all over it since there are no slides or climbers or anything else for them to play on. :confused3

I agree with others, the "playground" area looks disappointing. I assumed it would be like other playgrounds with slides, etc...just with a nicer theme.

Maybe that isn't the play area? Maybe it just wasn't featured on the video? One can hope right :)

I've studied the 'Boneyard Playground' in a few videos and I think the problem is that they changed it from what the original conceptual artwork showed us. In the artwork it showed a kid sitting on a separate curved structure that looked like a boned themed seesaw. It showed another kid looking like he was kind of going from bar to bar like the ribs were over-head 'hand to hand' bars and it just looked like there were far more activities for kids to interact with. I think the concept to the reality is quite different and us super fans who have been following this with a magnifying glass have noticed the differences! ;)

Can some of you who have been there before for the holidays tell me if DHS's Spectacle of lights is lit up all night after dusk or is it only for certain hours? If so, where can I get the schedule? Thanks.

They come on at dusk and continue until park closing. The show runs every 15 minutes, with several different christmas songs throughout the evening.

Hi there:wave2:~
We have booked our trip for AoA Nemo Suite for Oct 4-13, 2013...hoping for free Dining.

Thank you for all the great information, it really helps get the excitement going!

Looking at staying at LK Suite...will one of the beds be comfy for my mom to sleep on?

I will update soon. I am on my phone right now, computer having some issues. Hopper to add ya all soon!!!

I too was wondering the size of the beds. I know that there is a queen in the bedroom. What are the sizes of the table bed and the sofa bed? We will be traveling with my DS and DDIL plus our two younger sons (15 and 12). The 15 yo is 6'4 so really anything we put him on at this point is too short but I was wondering if the sofa sleeper will accomodate them both ?

I've posted this before but this video might give you an idea about the table bed. My DH in the video is 6'0. :) Hope this helps!
