Disney's Art of Animation Resort hotel

I plan on taking my son on a big trip for his 5th birthday in 2013 and I will definitely be wanting to stay in a Cars suite. He loves Cars and Toy Story, but after hearing so many comments about ASMo needing a refurb, I refuse to stay there so he hasn't gotten to see the Toy Story area. The two of us don't really need a suite obviously, but I am hoping to have other people join us for his birthday celebration, so the extra room will come in handy!

You are right about ASMo needing an upgrade. We stayed there for one night last Sept. and it was not nearly as nice as it had been several years back.

I will be interested in the suites though!

...All Star Princesses! I know if that were an option right now, there would be no doubt where my DD4 would want to stay. They could have a section for all of the 'major' princesses: Cinderella, Snow White, Belle, Ariel, Jasmine, Tiana, etc.

I'm not saying that would please everyone, especially families with little boys. But with the way they have marketing the Princess product over the past few years, it's obvious they have created an audience for it. Everything my daughter owns is Disney Princess themed. Heck, they're even revamping Toon Town to accomodate the demand for Princess and Fairy character meetings.

From what I understand, the re-vamping has changed and is less "Nirvana for 4 year old girls" and trying to be aimed at a larger audience.

Old Walt was a fan of boys, but Disney doesn't much like to even think the "b" word these days. Most boys aren't into princesses...they'd rather play a game where they shoot them or put them on a roller coaster that crashes than hang out in a princess room...but it hasn't stopped Disney yet.

I wouldn't put "All Star Princesses" past them. Though I am now sick to death of princesses, I was once a huge princess fan. It's not an altogether bad idea. Think I'd stick with a section or two, though.

I'll never forgive Epcot for turning one of my favorite eating spots, Restaurant Akershus in "Norway," into another Princess Experience! (Although I will admit I am in a small minority of really enjoying the Norwegian Food! )

Yeah you can tell Disney isn't looking to attract boys, what with Toy Story Mania and Everest and all the Cars stuff over at Disneyland and the revamping of Star Tours, and going back a little further, Buzz Lightyear and Lights, Motors, Action and Rock & Roller Coaster, and going back right to the start, the fact that three of the Magic Kingdom's lands are themed to boy-fantasties...

Aside from meals and merchandise, there're really no princesses in the parks - the only princess attractions are the two shows at DHS and the character meet & greets. It seems like somewhere along the line Disney decided that girls eat and shop while boys play games and go on rides. Personally, as mom to a couple of princess-loving girls who aren't big shoppers, I'd like to see some princess-y stuff that doesn't involve spending tons of money! But it isn't to be, I guess.

I'll take some when I'm down at Pop in March, hopefully there will be some progress to see. I've got a dSLR with a decent zoom lens, so if there's anything to see I'll bring back pictures of it!

If you cannot find rides themed toward girls then you are not looking closley. What are the tea cups then. The carosel, snow white, It's a small world. Most girls like splash mountain and Pooh. I think alot of the rides are actually gender neutral. Thrill rides are not just for the boys. My DD has always laughed and shrieked and giggled on all of the rides. When they were little Dumbo's flying elephants were always a favorite of both my boys and my daughter.

That was exactly my point. The attractions themed to stereotypically boy interests are considered gender neutral, but throw in a princess anywhere and it is too girly.

I'm not saying there isn't anything to appeal to girls. I just think the whole argument that it is all about the girls and that Disney isn't doing anything to appeal to boys falls flat - they do plenty, enough that some actual attractions themed to one of their biggest franchises wouldn't tip the overall balance too far to the "girl" side. Snow White is currently the only MK attraction that features a princess, and it might just be the worst ride in all of Fantasyland for the simple fact that it is too frightening for so many kids in the target age range of the whole Princess craze.

I would love to see Disney balance things a little better; they're in desperate need of some "boy" character meals, but they're also in need of some princess presence in the park outside of the restaurants and shops.
