"Connect with the Animals and Culture of Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge through the resort’s newest guest experience, Sense of Africa. Sense of Africa is a 3.5-hour long breakfast and tour that allows guests behind the scenes information about the design of the African-inspired resort, a unique twist on the dining experience at the Boma-Flavors of Africa restaurant, Following the meal, Guests board a special safari truck that takes them backstage, for a series of up-close encounters with some of the resort's most-beloved animals: giraffe, okapi, ostrich and red river hogs. Animal encounters are voluntary for each animal; therefore, experiences are unpredictable and unique each visit., all of which are inspired by the sensory experience this resort has to offer.
$249.99 per person plus tax guests must be at least 10 years old and older
Reservations are available by calling 407-WDW-TOUR. Reservations will open April 5, and the first tour will take place April 9. Passholders and Disney Vacation Club Members get a 15 percent discount on the tour"

Sounds great, but a bit pricey!!!

....thanks for sharing!

We are a vegetarian family as well. I think the veggie options at Mara are lacking. For lunch/dinner the choices are butternut squash soup, cheese or veggie flatbread and falafel pita. There are things like hummus in the cold cases but I think it would add a lot if they would offer a veggie burger or something like that. Also, the veggie kid options are pretty much an uncrustable. The cheese flatbread is the only thing that is a hot veggie kid friendly but I don't know if they will allow it as a kids meal option. If they would add Mac and cheese for kids and a veggie burger for adults I would be much happier with Mara.

Thanks so much!

We are already excited for our first WDW trip Oct. 29 - Nov. 5! Rented points for a DVC studio, savannah view. It looks like the only NIGHT we will be at the resort (vs. in the parks) will be our arrival day. We will have another half day or two to explore the resort, but it will be during the mornings. DH and I would really like to have a dinner sans-kids at Sanaa, and then afterwards we were hoping to catch some of the bonfire/storytelling activities with the kids. Does anyone know how long that goes on? If we pick them up at childcare at 7 p.m., will we be able to catch some of it? Looking at past activity schedules, it seems the bonfire stuff starts in the 6:30-7 p.m. range....
We're gonna miss ya by a week as we arrive on the 6th of Nov :D. My wife and I had lunch at Sanaa and really enjoyed it. Had a wonderful view of the savanna...........if you're able to schedule it before dark you really will get a treat. The food is wonderful. It's more exotic than we were use to but was really good. I would defiantly recommend taking some time to take in the sites and sounds of the resort. Prior to our lunch we sat on a balcony and had a drink and watch the animals on the savanna. You'll really enjoy it!

Have a wonderful trip!

Thanks, Doug! DH and I love ethnic foods so the Sanaa menu looks right up our alley! I'm working hard to squeeze in as much resort time as I can, too...

Do you have any idea how long the bonfire stories last in the evening? Is it only for 15-20 minutes, or more like an hour? Would love to catch some of it if we can.

Unfortunately I can't............we'll I could on November 7th :-) but that won't help you. Our visit to AKV was during a resort hop visit. Back in 2014 we spent our last several hours before boarding the DME at Kidani village, so that's were we had our moment at Sanaa. I would imagine you could call the resort directly if nobody here can get you the info. I honestly looked and couldn't find anything :sad1:

Here's wishing you and your family a magical vacation! pixiedust:

This is pretty much what they had. However, I didn't see an Uncrustable on the kids menu and no Mac n cheese was listed or offered To us when I asked about options. They offered to make my son a cheese flatbread (again not listed on menu but a veg one was and a pepperoni so easy enough for them to make a plain cheese). We only ate lunch at the Mara once because of this and it is also what led us to order room service one night but I wouldn't recommend that route. They have breakfast options eggs (if you eat those), waffles, croissants and other pastries.

....don't forget the made-to-order flatbread pizzas....they have a fantastic one with chicken, but you couldget it without....

How close is AKL to AK? If we arrived at AKL at 11AM or so via DME, what time could we be at AK entrance gates (using Disney transportation)?

5 minute bus ride
It depends if you're room is ready and whether you're dropping your luggage and running. If this is your first time enjoy the grandeur or the lodge.

What do you stock it with to save $$? If you are not cooking? Can we bring in our own beer?!! That would help.
Hehehe
Say we rent points and stay 8-10 days. What would you use it for , dead of summer.
I have never gone in summer before and we don't do well with heat so just thinking it through. If we do this, we will plan plenty of resort time for sure.
Beer other adult beverages and mixers water fruit snacks breakfast items...

What is the latest on the refurb? I thought I remembered reading the club level lounge would be relocated for a while. Wondering if that will affect our stay in May.

Just made our FP+ selections and did online check-in. Can't wait to be there!!

Same here! I keep staring at everything wondering if I need to change anything but without knowing what the heck is going on at Animal Kingdom, I'll just leave it for now. We are really excited!
