Resort Thread Disney's ALL-STAR SPORTS Resort

We leave/arrive at WDW in 10 days and it will be the first time we stay onsite, yay! :cool1:

I had a few questions that I think might have already been answered, but I wanted to know:

- Do the laundry machines take quarters only? How much for a load of wash/dry?
- Are there hair dryers in the rooms? (Not sure if I should pack mine, so I can have more room for souvenirs hah!)
- Do the rooms have irons?

Thanks in advance for replies!

Laundry machines take quarters only? That I do not know. Hopefully someone will be able to answer that for you.

Hair dryers in rooms? Yes
Do the rooms have irons? Yes

Hope that helps and have a great time. :woohoo:

Yes, the laundry machines only take quarters, the wash takes 30minutes and the dryer, depends on what heat cycle you use, mine took about 40 minutes to dry. Yes, there are irons in the rooms and I think hair dryers too...

It's $2 per load for the washer and dryer. It cost us $8 to do 2 loads.

Have a great time!!!:)

Subscribing. Right now, we are leaning towards a stay at Pop Century. But, we have never stayed at a value. We have always stayed at the Caribbean Beach Resort.

Our group will be 2 adults and a 12 year old boy. Our concerns are: 1) room size and clealiness; 2) resort noise; 3) bus system...travel times and efficiency; 4) food court.

We don't spend too much time at the resort but do have two "down" days where we sleep in and then spend time at the resort and go to Downtown Disney later on.

We drive but will use Disney transportation because I hate navigating around "the world". We will bring along drinks and snacks and a small cooler so the refillable mugs aren't a big deal to us. We are used to a large resort (the CBR is huge) so walking is no big deal either.

Anybody out there stay at a moderate and then at All Stars Sports who can reassure me?

Don't you also post a lot on the CBR thread? I'm like you in that we almost always stay at CBR too. I just booked a long weekend Christmas trip and we are staying at ASSp. The price was just too good ($50 a night) and with our trip being kind of short, we know we will not be in the room that much and we will spend the extra money we would have spent at CBR on food. We will rent a car so Disney transportation is not an issue for us, and we rarely eat in the food court, so not an issue either.

I have stayed at ASMo twice over the years and they are adequate. Rooms are smaller, but the three of you will fit nicely. The grounds just don't compare to CBR. If you like that kind of atmosphere, any of the All Stars will disappoint you - probably POP too. They don't have the lush tropical landscaping that CBR does or the beautiful beaches. They have lots of cement from what I remember!!

I agree with the previous poster who replied to your questions. If you are looking for a great value, then try out a value resort. Like I said, I just couldn't pass up this deal. I am spending $198 for four nights in December. I'm coming for the Christmas festivities, not the resort. My husband really does not like the values, for this short trip he will be fine and we plan to have really good meals every day.

Yes, I will miss my beloved CBR and walking over the bridge to Old Port Royale and hearing the calypso music!! I was just there in July, so when my husband said he would go with me for Christmas, I really didn't care that much about the resort. I'm just happy to be going back!

I do post on the CBR board. When we were there in August, we looked at Pop Century and liked the "feel" of the resort. We know we won't be staying in the room too much and we know that there aren't as many amenities at the values.

Just wanted to get a bit of info from someone who has stayed at both a moderate and a value.

Have a great trip!

My family and I personally like ASSp, because you don't spend that much time at the resorts. During Christmas though, a lot of convention/teams come by. We went December 18th-28th of 2007 and a cheerleading, football, basketball, and tennis camp/convention was there. Opt for a location AWAY from the pool. The people with these conventions tend to stay up past midnight and hang around the pool area. Also, the food court is an amazing feature. Just about every type of food in a very convenient place.

A few questions:
- We are not using ME. When we check in, do they have those baggage carts that we can use?....and/or do they have bell services?
- Laundry rooms: what are the hours?
- How many bus stops are there? Just one in front? I'm assuming it would get REALLY crowded.
- I'm not wanting a preferred room, so what is everyone's favorite non-preferred room, and why?
- On this thread, there are two different answers when asked if hair dryers and irons/boards are provided. Does anyone have a definitive answer?
- I looked at the Disney Sports site and see only 2 things that will be going on October 5-11. Do these particular events have major crowds?
- Why do the bus lines seem more crowded at the value resort lines than other resorts?
- Also, need a definitive answer on whether or not the 2L cokes are used as snack credits. There have been both answers on this thread. Anyone know for sure?
- Do I have this correct? Room renovations are done, ...resort renovations are still taking place as of TODAY? Any idea of a date of completion?
- Where exactly are the laundry rooms? (buildings)
- No privacy curtains in rooms?

I think there are a lot of different answers because this thread started in 2006/2007, so perhaps the renovating has changed some things.

I am so excited to go. This is a VERY last minute trip (planned as of last week) to go October 5-11 and to use the newly publicized FREE dining plan for Disney Visa holders. I am so excited! I've never stayed at a Disney value resort, but I know not to expect the same things as AKL, OKW, etc. It's only logical. But I do hope that the room is clean. That's a big issue for me.

This trip is a surprise to my family. My husband doesn't even know we're going. I contacted his partner at work and she is going to take care covering his shifts!!!!!

Also --- can anyone tell me what the weather is like during this time of year? We went last year and it was mid 90's in the mid week of October. This summer is SO much cooler than last year.

Thanks for everyone who has posted on this thread. I read the whole thing. It took me TWO hours! But it helped me figure out what questions I needed to ask.

Sunshine,

Just back from a stay at Sports between 9/5 and 9/16. Let me try to help you with some of your questions:

  • They are supposed to have baggage carts available on request (although we did not use them). Also, during checkout you can request bell services (I suppose with an additional cost)

  • We used the laundry rooms once until about 1:30 am, and we were not the only ones :-)

  • There is a bus line for each park. Depending on the hour and the park, yes, it can get a little crowded.

  • My favorite room would have been Touchdown! No. 7, rooms 7101-7364, away from the "football field" and still near the main building. As it was, we got lodged in Homerun No. 8, as far as you can get and still be on the same resort :-)

  • Yes, we had both, iron/ironing board and hair dryer provided.

  • ("Why do the bus lines seem more crowded at the value resort lines than other resorts?")
Good question. Maybe it is that the value resorts have a LOT of rooms, maybe more than the deluxe ones.

  • The arcade and the area that connects the lobby with the food court were closed during my visit. The arcade was supposed to be opened sept. 16th.

  • There is a laundry area located near the Homerun No. 8 building. The other one is (IIRC) between the Surf's Up and the main building.

  • No privacy curtains.

We loved our stay at Sports!!. The rooms were very clean, having been renovated recently. Also, the cleaning staff was good a its job (although we are a "tidy" family and like to leave our rooms in good order).

The weather was HOT and humid BUT, if you check web sites like AccuWeather.com you can see that the temperature is going down quickly, so I'm pretty sure that it should a lot more comfortable now.

I'm sure you are going to have a wonderful time!! Please don't hesitate to ask if you have any other questions.

Regards,

Luis

I think even though the value resorts have a lot of people, they send
more buses, so really it evens out. I have heard bus horror stories at every level!

Have fun!! A surprise trip! What fun! :woohoo:

Luis,

Thank you so much for all the info.

Is the renovating intrusive to the resort? Meaning....am I going to have to constantly hear and see it?

Do you have any pictures to share?

When all the rooms were renovated, was the carpet replaced also?

Is parking free for guests? This is the first time I've ever driven and stayed onsite at a Disney resort.

We didn't find the renovating intrusive that much. we were there from 8/29-9/7 when it had just started and part of the food court was blocked off. Unless they've finished the main hallway area that leads to the buses, then you'll need to walk around to the front of the building to catch the buses. It wasn't that big of a deal.

I do believe that all the rooms have been renovated and they are nice. Very clean and yes the carpet was also replaced.

Parking is free and there are several parking areas near the different buildings.:)

Just wanted to add my two cents. We stayed at ASSp from 8/26-9/2. We stayed in the Tennis Section. It was very nice, and only a minute or two walk from pools and food court etc.

There are 2 laundry rooms. One in the baseball section the other in the Surf's Up section. I have no idea how late they are opened too. Also there's 2 pools one in Surf's Up & one in baseball. Both are equally nice.

* The renovations are in the Main Building, between the lobby and the Food Court Area. There is a low wall that hides the area being worked on. We didn't hear any kind of noise coming from that place.

* Yes, I think that the carpets had been replaced, they were VERY clean and looked new.

* Parking is free for guests. On checking-in you receive a paper permit that you keep on the dashboard. Also, you have to show your room card on the gate when you enter. All guests can park (free) either at the resorts or in the parks (non-guests must pay $12 daily at the parks, yikes!)

We stayed at *** 9/7/08-9/12/08. Stayed in the Touchdown building #7 facing the football field. I had requested staying in the football section facing the field because my son LOVES football.
My son & daughter LOVED the theme & resort.

Our room was very clean. We had ZERO problem with noise while we were there.
There was painting renovations going on at the resort while we where there. They left a note on our door telling us the date they would be painting our building. It was never a problem/inconvienance. They were renovating the main building which was a inconvienance to walk around to the bus stop, but I think that is finished now.

Rooms are like standard hotel rooms, nothing fancy, just 2 beds, one sink, small bath area, small table w/2 chairs, t.v., ironing board & iron, wall-mounted hair dryer. You got soap & shampoo every day.
We were not in our rooms much during the day, so the size did not affect us.

The End Zone's food was really good, with good selection. Food court is very crowded in the mornings.

We used the bus service the whole trip. We did drive to WDW, but didn't want to waste our gas even though they do give you free parking pass :) Buses come very frequently during the main times people are going to the park: morning & dinner time. During the middle of the day the longest we had to wait was 20-30 minutes.
It's all in timing. If you walk up the bus stop just right after your bus destination pulled off, then you might have to wait 20-30 minutes for another bus to that destination to come.

We had a 8:00 am brkfst reservation at MK and went to the bus stop at 7:15 & they were running that early.

We had a good stay at ***.

Main pool was always crowded, the second pool in the baseball section was not. We were in between both pools, so we used the second pool.

And, one morning we did have a problem with no EPCOT bus arriving at bus stop. There was a long line waiting. Someone went inside the lobby to complain. A worker came out, saw the long line, she called someone with her 'walkie-talkie phone' and immediatly two buses for EPCOT came.
So, if anyone does encounter a problem with a bus destination not coming, just let the front desk know.

Sorry I never reported after my August trip.

We stayed in the tennis section at the top floor. I really, really liked the room and the resort. MUCH better than Pop Century. The fact that we are the first on/first off for the buses was a HUGE plus. Whenever we actually made it to the other resorts, they were always packed waiting for a bus.

Anyway, I loved the layout and how small it was compared to POP. We only used the food court twice. It was adequate, but definitely the smallest I've seen at a resort.

I liked it so much, I'm taking my mom back in December for free dining!

BTW, I think the buses are more crowded partly because I think people staying at a value are more likely to not use there own car than they may be at other resorts. They are on more of a 'budget' right? That's why they stay at the value resort? Just a hunch--there seemed to be considerably more cars in the parking lot during the day at the values than at the mods I've stayed at.
