Resort Thread Disney's ALL-STAR SPORTS Resort

Iam712:

Great pictures! I'm starting to get excited about staying there in ... oh ... 43 sleeps :yay:

I really really REALLY hope they are able to give us the rooms we've asked for *insert fingers crossed smiley that doesn't exist on the DIS yet ** LOL

We'll be using Gardengrocer too - 12 people in 4 rooms (4 of our party are staying off-site) equals a fairly hefty order (mostly bottled water!). I don't know if we'll be there when they deliver the order though (we plan on going to Downtown Disney when we get there), I wonder if the ASSp front desk will be enthusiastic about delivering a total of 8 cases of water and a bunch of other stuff?! :scared1: :rotfl:

Hello Everyone! I'm back from my stay at ASSp. I really did enjoy it, it was very nice.

We stayed in the Tennis Section, building 5 (ground level) I can't remember the room number sorry. I'm sort of shocked I didn't see anyones green mickeys.

We had a bit of a wait at check-in, which was slightly annoying, because all I wanted to do was go find our room.

As far as the gift shop, foodcourt, pools, arcade, laundry etc goes. It was all very nice. Giftshop was a little pricy ($3.50 for a washcloth that said Disney 2008 on it). But, overall the pricing was good. We liked the foodcourt it did get busy at times but the lines seemed to move pretty fast, so really no complaints there either. The pools were both really nice. I preferred the main pool. It was deeper and larger, didn't have to worry about running into anything (just people). I don't really no much about the arcade since I was never really in it. I believe ($5 gets you about 250 credits). There's actually 2 laundry rooms. I've only seen the one mentioned. There is the one by the main pool in the Surf's Up area & then another one in the Baseball section (near their pool).

As far as buses go...
We must have really crappy timing. I'm telling you just about everytime we would get out there to stand someone would tell us the bus had just left. Bad timing! Once while waiting for a bus for Magic Kingdom we waited nearly 40 minutes for it! We saw 3 Downtown Disney buses, 2 Hollywood Studios & 3 Epcots before the Magic Kingdom bus came. By then there were so many people we had to leave nearly 40 people behind. We were luckily the last one on the buses.

Rooms & everything else...
Our room was pretty nice. It was a couple minute walk to everything really. To both of the pools, giftshop, laundry, etc. Housekeeping was very nice about sending extra pillows and towels/wash clothes to us (even late at night). We only had to call once to get extra towels & they got to our room within 10 minutes. We had to call twice for the pillows, but we were using them at the very moment so that was okay as well.

Alright, I think that's it for now. If you have any questions, just ask.

Iam712-pretty funny we were below you on ground level.

Room 4104 and 4105 cept huey duey and louie were right in front of our room.

i think we were there the same time too. We just left on the 28th.

We were in 4308 and 4309! We were there at the same time- we arrived on the 23rd and left on yesterday! Too bad we didn't meet! My family was upset because we had requested Hoops Hotel both times we have stayed there and both times we have been put in the tennis buildings........oh well, we only slept and showered there anyway. :goodvibes

Dh and I will be staying at AS Sports Sept 25-28, but we will actually not arrive until Sept 26 about 3 or 4 in the morning. What time does luggage services open, because I will have to pick up my ECV before leaving for the parks. I would prefer to pick it up upon arrival, but I don't think they will be open. We have never arrived this early before and aren't familiar with this dept.

I have those same concerns and questions for just 5 days before you arrive! Thanks for asking.

It's my understadning that luggage services are there around the clock.

You can call this number 407-939-5000 to find out for sure.

Is there a microwave in the food court area you can use for popcorn or leftovers?

Also,I read that yucky thread about bed bugs and was wondering if anyone had seen those nasty things lately? Should I be bringing that spray with me? I will freak out if I see that!!

You can use the microwave as well as the toasters for whatever you like. We haven't seen any begbugs. We do bring lysol wipes just to wipe doorknobs, phone, fixtures.

I thought I read somewhere that if you have medicine you need kept cold they would give you a fridge at no cost. Is this true and if so would I need to let them know before I arrive or do I have to show it at check in?
Also, how do you keep medicines cold when flying and if it is over the 3oz limit can you still carry it on?

How are is the renovations going at the ASSports? Does anyone know when they are expected to be done?
We are going in Oct 2008 and would like to get a newly redone room because they look really good.

This question I can actually help with! One of our party is on insulin, so I have confirmed that the fridge for her room is free of charge (for medical reasons). Our TA did advise having a doctor's note confirming that she actually needed the insulin, just in case the Front Desk asks for "proof". Yes, let the hotel know before you get there - them knowing beforehand may make it easier to get the fridge when you get there.

Sorry, I can't answer your second question, but when we find out, I'll let you know. My MIL and I were discussing exactly the same question yesterday (the insulin is for her sister (our aunt)) and she was going to call the doctor's office to ask. I will be checking the airline policy as well - they may specify certain medicines that they will refrigerate for you on-board or allow you to keep in a cooler kwim?

OK, I just called the airline. If you're travelling with AlaskaAir, this is their policy:

As long as each individual vial of medicine (in this case, insulin) is clearly labelled with doctor's name, patient's name, etc., you can bring it onboard in a cooler bag with freezer packs to keep it cold. Also, again as long as each vial is clearly labelled as above, the cooler will NOT count as carryon luggage!

I'm arriving at Sports this Sun, 10/7. I'm excited, I'll have my green mickey's in the window!

Just an FYI, you CANNOT be asked for a doctors note, it is against the law. DO NOT SHOW it, if asked, ask to speak to a manager. The Americans with Disabilities Act has laws against this to protect you. They have to take your word for it. Also know that this may not be a regular fridge, it may only be a box about the size of a shoe box.

I can't answer about flying, because we don't fly

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but I believe all the room renovations
are done. I am not aware of any other renovations at Sports.

Thanks for your reply, Suzanne! We're Canadian, so I'll bet that Act doesn't apply to us, but we don't mind showing a doctor's note anyway :goodvibes Our TA advised that the fridge is regular-sized, I sure hope she's right! If not, they'll just pay for a regular-sized fridge :)

When I was there (a week ago) they were doing something in the Football Section. I think they may have been refurbing the outside of it, not the inside. I'm not sure though.

I'm sure it probably does apply to anyone coming into the US no matter where you are from, they can't question a disability or need for medication. You might get a regular fridge, but I just like to let people know just in case, so they aren't surprised when they get there and it is small.

We had requested a fridge and a sharps container for our son's allergy vials prior to arrival. When we finally arrived in our room, we noticed it was not there and after a couple of phone calls a small dorm size fridge was delivered. They told me they do not put the fridge in anyone's room until they check in- just remember to ask at check in so you don't have to call to get it delivered. We were never asked for any documentation. When we flew down, I checked the TSA website to see how to handle the medication. I put his vials and needle supplies in a ziploc, announced the contents to the TSA agent and they told me to just send it through with other liquids on the conveyor belt.

Just back from 8 nights at sports. DH and I were in touchdown building 7. If anyone needs any questions answered, ask away. There is some construction going on now to replace the floors. also there were several teams staying there and it was crowded. We had a wonderful stay, but the buses were a NIGHTMARE.:scared1:

I guess we discovered that values are not for us. In fact we purchased DVC this past Saturday. We were seating on the fence, but the value resort pushed us over the edge to buy in.

The refurbished rooms are very nice definately no complaints and all the cast members were wonderful and went out of their way to make our stay magically.:goodvibes :wizard:
