Resort Thread Disney's ALL-STAR SPORTS Resort

Just back from 8 nights at sports. DH and I were in touchdown building 7. If anyone needs any questions answered, ask away. There is some construction going on now to replace the floors. also there were several teams staying there and it was crowded. We had a wonderful stay, but the buses were a NIGHTMARE.:scared1:

I guess we discovered that values are not for us. In fact we purchased DVC this past Saturday. We were seating on the fence, but the value resort pushed us over the edge to buy in.

The refurbished rooms are very nice definately no complaints and all the cast members were wonderful and went out of their way to make our stay magically.:goodvibes :wizard:

I'm afraid to ask... but can you tell us about the busing nightmares? We leave in 11 days and I'm alittle nervous. My husband was suppose to go, but due to work issues, he's backing out so now it will be me, my mom, dd & ds. My mom is not a big help as for medical reasons it's somewhat difficult for her to get around...so now I'm nervous!

Can you tell me more about the floor replacments? I presume you mean in the food court/main hallway area? Did anyone mention to you how long it would be going on for?

Did you get the refillable mugs? What was the design?

The buses were very crowded. There were only a few times were dh and I were riding w/o many people. We were at closing for MK one night and we sat on a bench for at least an hour before getting on a bus, but that was only because I didn't want to stand. If you have smaller children, most of the time, someone will give up a seat for you to sit. I know my dh gave up his seat often for older people and parents with young children. Either way, I certainly don't want to cause you any alarm. Your visit will be perfect.:goodvibes

You are right..it is the main hallway and food court area. No one mentioned how long this was going to take, but we didn't ask either. My dh said that usually once they lay the floor it has to sit and "cure" for a while. There was a smaller area by the drink stations that was boarded up when we checked in, and it was removed by our 3rd morning. The new floor looks very nice and squishy too.

My dh just mentioned that he saw a sign on the arcade, because they are replacing that floor also that said it would re-open on 9/8. So maybe that is when the whole floor would be done.

We did get the refillable mugs and it was the Year of dreams design. But I did see a few people with the older resort specific designs mugs also and they were using them. :rolleyes1

Rlbren - Good to hear about your stay! I think we were there at pretty similar times. When I was there they were doing something to the Football Section - did they finish this? Oh, and I know what you mean about the buses. I think it's really a timing thing possibly more than anything, if you know what I mean. We found out when we went to Magic Kingdom that each bus is only allowed to carry a maximum of 72 people. Luckily, we were the last 4 on the bus haha.

I too got the refillable mugs with the Year of a million dreams logo on it. My family and I were discussing and got to thinking. If 12 families bought at least 2 mugs....just think about all the money Disney would be making off of them! It's just unbelievable you know what I mean? At any one day, I'm sure they can make thousands of dollars off of those mugs alone.

Has anyone called the week before and requested certain rooms? We are staying in preferred location but there are 3 rooms on the ressie and we want 3rd floor facing away from the pool. Anyone know what room to request and if it even makes a difference. Do they just put you where they want to anyway? We would love to have 2 of the rooms connecting and the other next to them but we know that all these requests are alot to ask for.
If you have called before, what phone # did you use?

I did a lot of research on room locations at ASSp because a few people in our group need to be on the ground floor, etc. I used http://allears.net/acc/as_layout.htm to figure out where we wanted to be (we're also in preferred). I am really really really hoping that we'll be able to stay where we've requested - come on, pixie dust! :wizard:

I hope you and your group are able to get the rooms you'd like too! I just told our travel agent our preferences, but I'm sure Disney's Central Reservations would be able to put your room preferences on your reservation :goodvibes

I faxed our room request, just as suggested on Allears.net. I requested third floor, quiet area, away from pool and that's what we got each time. Of course, I requested that when I made our reservation, too, so I don't know if the fax helped or not.

They usually place you where they want to. However, IF you can choose, we had room 6346 (near pool, but backside) and it had a connecting door...just off the elevator and perfect for everything else:) Good luck, yes, I had a preferred room...so I did get what I requested..we didn't need a connecting room since it was just the 3 of us..oh, yes, please be sure to pull the door shut as our door was left opened a few times:(

If you have requests for medical necessity, like need for a roll-in shower, hand rails in the tub, etc, those can be guaranteed by asking the CM at CRO to call the special needs line and making the request. If they won't do it, you can call yourself at 407-939-7807, this is for special medical needs ONLY.

is the fax # on the first post the best one to use for room requests?

That is the best fax number to use for room requests.

Just remember that nothing is guarenteed with room request. They usually try to grant the request but are not always able to fill them.

Good Luck!:thumbsup2

Subscribing. Right now, we are leaning towards a stay at Pop Century. But, we have never stayed at a value. We have always stayed at the Caribbean Beach Resort.

Our group will be 2 adults and a 12 year old boy. Our concerns are: 1) room size and clealiness; 2) resort noise; 3) bus system...travel times and efficiency; 4) food court.

We don't spend too much time at the resort but do have two "down" days where we sleep in and then spend time at the resort and go to Downtown Disney later on.

We drive but will use Disney transportation because I hate navigating around "the world". We will bring along drinks and snacks and a small cooler so the refillable mugs aren't a big deal to us. We are used to a large resort (the CBR is huge) so walking is no big deal either.

Anybody out there stay at a moderate and then at All Stars Sports who can reassure me?

We have stayed at a couple of moderates (POFQ, CS) a Deluxe (AKL) and POP and ASSp. The biggest differences to us between the moderates and the values are space...I don't mean the space for the room size, to us that is a very small difference, I mean the space for each person within the resort itself...meaning the food courts are busier at the values, the pools are busier at the values, the buses are busier at the values etc. We normally go at the lower times of year so during the busy seasons the moderates may feel just as crowded. But the values are always busy (IMO). There are lots of families with kids (of course) at the values. If you go to a value resort expecting it to be just as "good" as the moderate you will be disappointed. But if you go expecting it to be a nice resort for a great value you will be happy. They are that...a great value. You have the opportunity to stay in the Disney "magic" at a lower price. You can still use the Disney transportation (you may have a little longer wait for the buses), you have access to a food court right at your resort. I don't hesitate to book a trip at a value when the budget won't stretch enough for a moderate. I kind of prefer the value when we are traveling with kids because they LOVE the theming of the values. If the values were on the same level as the moderates nobody would stay at the moderates...why pay extra. We have not found any difference the in cleanliness between moderates and values. Pop is a little newer and we find it is a little less worn that ASsp, but ASSp just had a renovation too so it may be even better now. Just go expecting a little different experience for a better price and have a great time!

We leave/arrive at WDW in 10 days and it will be the first time we stay onsite, yay! :cool1:

I had a few questions that I think might have already been answered, but I wanted to know:

- Do the laundry machines take quarters only? How much for a load of wash/dry?
- Are there hair dryers in the rooms? (Not sure if I should pack mine, so I can have more room for souvenirs hah!)
- Do the rooms have irons?

Thanks in advance for replies!
