DisneyQuest? Worth the cost?

I realize this may have been discussed in the past, but couldn't find anything searching past posts, so was hoping anyone that has experienced DisneyQuest could share their thoughts.

I have it planned for one day of our trip, but am wondering if it is worth the price of admission. I'm not getting the super-duper MYW tickets that include all those little extras, since we won't be doing water parks or anything like that. And we're going at the end of July, so I'm thinking it will be packed to the brim.

Any thoughts?

Here's my thought, which will probably differ from a lot of others. No.

The reason why is that I am usually the only one in my family who gets motion sick. I use prescription patches and pills to quell it for planes and amusement rides. However, my entire family was feeling so queasy after one "ride" that they all wanted to leave. I felt awful too (even with the patch on...these patches are used mainly for chemo patients to stop nausea) but was determined to stick it out. I managed to ride one more before I gave up. It's about ten times worse than the dizziness you experience from watching someone else play a 3D video game. I won't ever go back, and it's fortunate that we didn't waste money on it, because we spent probably a grand total of 15 minutes in there before leaving to go sit and sip on flat cokes. (Good for nausea)

Others thoughts?

My oldest DS had done this in the past. He loved the floor with the ticket games. So this year, my youngest DS is ready to give it a whirl. We get there -- pay $136 for all of us to get in -- to find out that the ticket games no longer exist. Not many video games and the ones that are there are being monopolized by other people. We left in an hour. Definitely NOT worth the price of admission. We decided next year we would spend our $136 on games at AK and playing mini-golf. Much more fun and definitely worth the money.

My family enjoyed the six hours or so that we spent there in August, on an overcast day...BUT...we had the plus option and were going to the water parks as well.

I think its great as part of the PLUS option, but would not have spent the money for the four of us to go on an individual admission basis.

I think it depends on who is going with you. If it is just adults, I would skip it. If it is adults with children under 9, I would skip it. But if you have kids between 10 and 18, they will love it. We went last time and my kids did not want to leave. My DW and I had some fun there, some games were fun to do, but the kids had a blast. One of the best things was the make your own roller coaster. The kids design it, then go into a machine that plays the coaster they made. We get to watch it, and also got to buy a video of the ride they made. My DD discovered then that she loves roller coasters and loves going upside down. So, you need to base it on the group you are with. You can get discount tickets for it from ticketmania, which can save a few bucks.

DH and I had alot of fun here. DS 17 loves it here DD and her DH and their kids loved it. DS went every day on our last trip with park hoppers for an hour or two. When we went in 2001 we wanted to see The Little River Band at the House of Blues so we left DS 15 and DGD 14 there untill 11:30. It was still hard to get them to leave. :rotfl2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

Agree with this post completely!! Another thing that they offer is an Animation Drawing class. My DD9 could have spent all day here--they are free and they do different characters every half hour or so. The 3D games are really fun to do as a family--we had good teamwork fighting pirates!! pirate:

ITA. However, I would have spent the money for JUST ME to go! I don't mean to come across as selfish -- I just mean that I had a blast while DS13 had "just a good time". DW and my three other DS's stayed back at the resort.

Where else but DQ can I relive my childhood and play the actual arcade games from my teen years, i.e., the mid-80s? Yeah, we've got MAME and emulators on the PS2 and such that replicate the classic games but to climb into the ACTUAL Star Wars cabinet again, do the trench run, and shoot a photon torpedo into the air vent on the Death Star? Wow! How much is that worth?

Not to mention playing Marble Madness with a true trackball, Tempest with a true spinner, Tron with the true joystick w/trigger and spinner control, Missile Command with a true trackball and three separate missile launch buttons (one for each missile base, of course), etc., etc. If only they would have had classic pinball machines also but at least they had 5 or 6 pinballs in a row (though the pins ALWAYS seemed to be busy).

To become a kid again for a few hours would have been well worth $37.50 (or whatever it is).

(Pirates was great fun also.)

I have mixed feelings on DQ. We have been once and plan on going back upcoming trip. The difference will be, this time for only a couple of hrs. Last time we stayed 5-6 hrs trying to get our $$ worth. This time we are going on PAPs. We feel we can justify going 2 or 3 times for a little while rather than fitting it all in in one day.

It gives us sensory overload, and it has a strange smell too it. Must be all those electronics cooking in there :teeth:

IMO, NO! Don't get me wrong, my DS's 6 and 8 loved it. But I was done in about an hour. The POC ride was cool, but after that, it is just an indoor amusement park with very long lines. I had a screaming headache when we left. I felt like we spent a lot of time just standing around for someone to be finished playing a game. I would much rather go over to the CR and let my boys play in their arcade and they even get to pick out prizes when they leave.

Last December we (me, DH, DS, 7) bought our tickets through Ticketmania as we did not have the option on our park tickets. Of course, we'd HAD the options on our past 2 trips and didn't take advantage....

We spent about 5 hours inside and had a great time. DH and DS, especially, loved everything they did and we still didn't do it all. They are the ride-guys, the thrill-seekers, and I'm the kinda-careful-kinda-motion-sensitive one (but I still had a lot of fun). For our trip this coming December, DH and DS will go again (on tickets we purchase separately from Ticketmania) -- in fact, they were looking at the map together yesterday! -- and I'll use the time to really explore DTD (I'm the only shopper/window-shopper in the family).

My perspective is that it is worth checking out, and that as others have said, for thrill-seeker/electronic game enthusiasts, it is heaven on earth. If we weren't going in December, I would upgrade our park tickets to include water parks and DQ, but for us the $$ works out best to go once (and it's easier for us to have DS see it as a one-time, rather than a multi-day opportunity!).

We went during a slower season - first two weeks of Dec 2005. It was DH, DS 14, DS 12 and me. The three guys (including my hubby) love computer and video games - me not so much. Having said that, I went in with the attitude that I was going to try everything at Disney World, and DQ was no exception.

The first time we went was around 4:30 in the afternoon on a weekday. It wasn't really very crowded and we spent about 90 minutes exploring. I tried the Alladin ride with the helmet, the river raft ride and then I discovered Pirates of the Caribbean. Our entire family loved that one. We would get in the line of 5 or 6 parties ahead of us, and didn't wait any more than 5 or 10 minutes.

We also designed our own roller coasters and then test drove them virtually and tried to make them scarier each time. It was a great way to build up my DS12's confidence. Whenever we had a hole in our schedule, we went to DQ (five visits in all - but after five visits the boys wanted to see a movie instead of going back for a 6th visit).

To answer your specific question, if those in your party like computer/video games or anything "virtual", then they will enjoy it. I have never been to DQ during high season, but the idea of going during the day follows the general philosophy of trying to predict when crowds will be fewer. As to whether I would spend full price admission for a family of four - no I would not. No matter how much we liked it, I would rather spend money on the Water Parks and More Add On in case there was something else I want to take advantage of...or do what another poster said and take advantage of the Ticketmania discounted DQ tickets. I'm just cheap that way. I won't pay full price if there is a deal to be had ;)

Thanks, everyone for the feedback. I think I've decided to skip it this trip. It's just going to be me and my girlfriend, so maybe we'll take an extra day to rest up and rejuvenate instead.

Thanks again!
