Disneyland Reopening Speculation Superthread

[

OK, I was there this morning as we came down to go to DTD and got stuck in it. There were a very very small number of "Disney Fans or Employees" there (maybe 10?) rallying for the reopening. What people learned is this was set up as a Recall Newsom thing and they left. I was VERY disappointed in what I saw. Look carefully at the video. People from the Recall group (about 30-40) did not wear masks, kept thrusting clipboards at people to get them to sign, trying to hand people pens (one lady tried to hand me a pen she had just been chewing on) to sign the petition, there were vehicles blocking sidewalks on the east side (I had to go into the street to go around a car parked in the short drive of McDonalds.). They were on both sides of Harbor. When my daughter and I crossed Harbor in the crosswalk, and started walking towards the entry to DTD, about 6 people were lined up blocking the sidewalk into Disney property. They were not 6 feet apart, and they did not move so we could pass without coming within 1-2 feet of them. This was not a positive Disney rally. It actually felt worse than some of the union rally's I've seen. And it was not one I would be proud of as a Disney fan.

Pretty sure you posted this on a Facebook group I am in (the mention of the chewing on the pen). And I am still grossed out by the chewing on the pen and then handing it to someone to sign. In the best of times, I would not be willing to use that pen, but during a Pandemic --- that is just so gross!

I read this article this morning too. And they made good points. Hard as it is to read, it was pretty realistic about the crowds while officials visited WDW and the unmasked people at the rally. This all seems like it could be fuel for the Governor to hold on opening and point to both of these things.

WDW can't continue to be that 'shining example' if they get lax on face coverings and allow the lines to get so bad that the walkways are jammed with people. (It'd be a great time to introduce MaxPass to WDW but no one asked me... lol!)

I'm heading there in less than a month and feeling a bit nervous after reading recent reports. But I'm just going to go with the flow and just remind myself if I'm ever uncomfortable with the amount of people that we can always step away and take a breather. I also wonder if they got caught off guard and they're working to correct it- everything is so hard to predict right now. It seems like everyone got 'pandemic fatigue' as they're calling it at the same time and booked trips. Hopefully when Disneyland gets the okay to open they can learn from all the issues WDW is having right now. I don't think we'll see that same quiet period at Disneyland like WDW had earlier this summer- it will likely be crowded (as much as capacity allows) from the get go.

Has anyone who is currently booked on property for mid-November received any sort of cancellation notice yet?

I am reasonably certain we won't be able to go on November 12 but I'm loath to cancel before I hear it "officially" from Disney.
I haven't heard yet. Thanksgiving week.

I have a friend at WDW right now. She posted a picture in World Showcase at Epcot questioning that it was really 25%. She lives about 2-3 hours from WDW and is a DVC member who goes probably a dozen times a year so she is pretty familiar with crowds all times of the year. And Food & Wine is her absolute favorite event of the year, so she was not thrilled with the crowds there on Saturday (although she knows from experience how crazy it is there on Saturdays during Food and Wine.).

I have always thought the Disneyland crowds would be much larger from Day 1 (selling out of reservations every single day) because the crowds are very different at DL compared to WDW. DL is a mostly locals park who will be able to get their easily. WDW is much more travelers and between quarantines and people being nervous, it was just not as easy to go there on a short notice trip. Plus, there are still no international travelers (Canada or Europe) who would be more apt to go to WDW so that kept some numbers down too. We cancelled our September trip and the crowds started to pick up right around the time we would have been there. I was never sure if I made the right decision, but when I saw crowds increasing, I felt much better about my decision to cancel.

I don't think you should worry about your WDW trip. WDW now has signs out that state that guests WILL be asked to leave if they don't wear a mask. AND they're making announcements on loudspeakers several times a day.

Same about being nervous about wdw. I’m headed there in mid November, but thankfully I’m not trying to do everything. The only real goals of the trip are MMRR and ROTR and I’ll be back in the future.

I’m not as worried about the masks as I am about the lines and the walkways being crowded. I’ve been watching the app and by afternoon most rides are over 30 minutes with some being consistently at that 60 minute mark. And those long lines end up in the walkways making everything feel so crowded. Lots of negative trip reports on the WDW boards lately- such bad timing for the CA governors folks to go. 😣 If they were in the mix of those crowds... yikes.

That’s my thinking too! I’m trying to adjust my expectations (can’t really do the usual awesome touring strategy with no waiting in line...) and just hit the top priorities.

Yeah. We normally almost never do standby lines. I know how to play the FP+ game. But I can’t complain. Between August 2019 to February 2020 I had 5 separate trips to wdw and logged 29 park days.

I was telling (okay... whining) to my mom about it and she hit me with the ‘back in my day when we’d go we didn’t have FastPass so you have to do this 90s style’ 😂

So I watched a great video from Mickey Views on this....

Basically, with no parades, indoor restaurants not at 100%, and several not open.... Plus a lot of indoor shows are still limited, you have basically rides. They are seeing longer lines cause the other time sucks are gone.

Others on youtube have said the same. That they haven't been fully booked yet and now that people are filling safe they are going.

Last thing is on the lines, people are saying the posted wait times are way off, some Seven Dwarves said 70 mins, and people have stated 40mins, 25mins, and 80mins. All depends on when they do the thorough cleaning ever 2 hours.

Some of the lines are apparently shorter than the posted waits. I was watching a vlogger and she got in line for Big Thunder. It was posted at 30, she was on in 15 minutes. I think where the lines can get held up is if you get caught on a cleaning cycle.

HS is another beast lol

Yep. At the beginning when WDW was very empty, the park was still at 25% capacity, BUT the crowds to match that capacity weren't there. And I think Disney did an update where they mentioned many people cancelled their trips b/c the COVID numbers for Florida were very high when the park first opening. Now the COVID numbers are much better so people feel safer.

I'm so curious to see if DL follows similar crowd patterns. Yes it's a locals park, but will locals feel safe? Obviously all of us on here would feel fine lol.

I think DL will be different just with the respect that they have seen it work at WDW. If anything AP, and Ticket holder passes get booked, but hotel reservations will not be taken. I just think more people flying in are iffy that the locals.

Is there no Monday presser today? Hasn't that been consistent for several weeks? Or maybe the days are blending together.

Our situation got very dire over the weekend. We are almost out of GCH shampoo, conditioner, & body wash. You can only ration for so long!
