Thinking About a Cake

We ordered a cake once when we were cruising during birthdays for both my husband and my daughter. It was tasty, but we had so much "free" food during meals that we didn't even finish it.

Usually if you ask in the dining room you can get a birthday cake/dessert without an upcharge- the order ones are meh from what I've had.

We didn't even ask. Our server just quietly asked me one night if it was my husband's birthday and I told him it was the next night. They brought him a special dessert and sang. The piece of cake was very good!

We've ordered both the Mickey cake (Our was vanilla cake) and both the chocolate and vanilla cupcakes from "Onboard Gifts". Ours were delicious. The Mickey cake was pretty big. Even the cupcakes are a bit over-sized. You might want both.....HA! Happy Birthday and Happy Cruise!

We have never particularly liked the cake they bring at dinner for a birthday. I'd just go to the up-charge ice cream/sweet shop on the ship and pick a special treat there.

When we started cruising DCL (2008) this was the cake served in MDR for birthday - an actual cake big enough to serve 4-6 people.

By 2014 this is what they were serving - an individual mousse-type dessert:

Yeah, but that first one is all cream. There's almost no cake in it.

Anyway, they have a different one now. It's OK. A bit better than most of the other MDR cakes.
