Disneyland Reopening Speculation Superthread

[
Looks like today's rally was small and peaceful.
From Yahoo:
Disneyland Employees and Fans Hold Rally Urging State to Allow Reopening
OK, I was there this morning as we came down to go to DTD and got stuck in it. There were a very very small number of "Disney Fans or Employees" there (maybe 10?) rallying for the reopening. What people learned is this was set up as a Recall Newsom thing and they left. I was VERY disappointed in what I saw. Look carefully at the video. People from the Recall group (about 30-40) did not wear masks, kept thrusting clipboards at people to get them to sign, trying to hand people pens (one lady tried to hand me a pen she had just been chewing on) to sign the petition, there were vehicles blocking sidewalks on the east side (I had to go into the street to go around a car parked in the short drive of McDonalds.). They were on both sides of Harbor. When my daughter and I crossed Harbor in the crosswalk, and started walking towards the entry to DTD, about 6 people were lined up blocking the sidewalk into Disney property. They were not 6 feet apart, and they did not move so we could pass without coming within 1-2 feet of them. This was not a positive Disney rally. It actually felt worse than some of the union rally's I've seen. And it was not one I would be proud of as a Disney fan.

That's too bad. Thank you for posting an eyewitness description. The Facebook page showed fewer than 70 people said they were planning on being there, so I figured the rally would be small.

I cant link to the site hosting the photos (url is blocked), but Disneyland has put up spanish coronavirus warning signs (the ones that say wear a mask, keep 6ft/2m apart, etc) in the esplanade and DTD after the state’s visit. This sounds like something that would have been recommended by the state due to their equity metrics and such. So I think it’s a good sign that the state has actually made some recommendations and actual talks are ongoing.

Actually, if you look at the OC Register article posted/linked above (from page 349 in this superthread), Disneyland agreed to put up the Spanish language signs before the state visited. Those signs were recommended by the OC health officials. DLR is really trying to go above and beyond to do what they have to do to prove they can reopen safely. (I think you can find another article on that visit from the OC Health Dept. on Inside the Magic.)

Rats. While it’s definitely great that Disney is doing what it can to show that it can open safely, the fact that this came from county guidance rather than state guidance means we have no signs as to whether or not the state visits yielded any progress. If they had added the signs because of state guidance then it would have at least been a sign of the state talking to the parks. Hopefully it’s just too early to know if the state visits resulted in anything.

I had no idea other states were doing similar recalls of their governors. :sad2: The one in our state has been ongoing since last year and it sounds like the same type of people. Sad that they took advantage of the situation and made people who genuinely want to open the parks up safely look bad.

Has anyone who is currently booked on property for mid-November received any sort of cancellation notice yet?

I am reasonably certain we won't be able to go on November 12 but I'm loath to cancel before I hear it "officially" from Disney.

Disney has officially cancelled on site hotel reservations through 10/31/20. I haven't seen anyone post about Disney cancelling an on site reservation later than that -- so far. The first post of the Official Reopening Superthread will have the latest cancellation date posted as we receive the updates. When we get a new announcement, it will be posted there.

Thanks as always @theluckyrabbit !

Have any APs out there heard anything official recently from Disney about requesting/getting a refund?

Since we've talked about shows lately, I wanted to share that I went to Six Flags Discovery Kingdom in Vallejo yesterday. They are still doing a couple of their animal shows. They have stickers on the ground separated around the stadium and your group must sit at one of those. They were really good at telling people they needed to sit at a sticker if either groups weren't next to one or if they spread out too much. They also did a good job of telling people to put their masks on, or on correctly, inside the stadiums.

Granted, there weren't a ton of people there, as opposed to what Disney will see when they open, but it can be done. Plus, with reduced capacity to start with, you would have fewer people in general who are there.

I believe Malcon10t's coverage on the rally is a truer picture of what was going on. I want Disney to open, but misleading info makes me mad.
I agree and find it interesting how the media is being so "kind" in reporting this story. Not that I want them to be overly negative, but every article which I've found so far has been noticeably benign.

Oof, they make some good points here but nothing about this looks good for Disney. I’ve been following the WDW news closely and it really was the worst time for state officials to come tour with the increase of crowds and lines... Based on what I’ve read on the WDW threads they really need to open more shows/restaurants to disperse people better as the result is folks jammed into walkways with no room to distance.

ETA: this article also gives a more realistic view of the (unmasked) recall folks that crashed the protest.

I read this article this morning too. And they made good points. Hard as it is to read, it was pretty realistic about the crowds while officials visited WDW and the unmasked people at the rally. This all seems like it could be fuel for the Governor to hold on opening and point to both of these things.
