Disneyland Reopening Speculation Superthread

That's the article that I posted just above yours. (And HT for that to @Mathmagicland.) It is puzzling to me why the governor refers to upcoming visits (e.g. WDW & USO and DL & USH) when it appears these visits have already happened. It would seem that he defines several words quite differently than the rest of us: soon, very soon, negotiating/negotiations, upcoming. Hmmm... apparently my grasp of the English language needs some work.

Maybe he thinks he's being "clever" by being one step ahead of us, saying he will do something that he already did. It's kinda weird. BUT, if that means we may get a reopening announcement "soon" I'll play along. :D

I will be interesting to see if anything is brought up in the news conference today, or if a question is asked during Q&A
I bet you a dole whip that we will be getting more and more questions to the Gov. about it now. My guess is after the visits, it's too late to backtrack on talking about reopening now. I'm also wondering if he just wants to get it out of his hair and move on to other things. OPEN, OPEN, OPEN!!!! :D

I think it’s just stalling. He just needs a variety of words to appease people while responding. I want Disneyland open as much as the next person. I do believe they can do it in safe manner(not that I am an expert on viruses), We are a DL AP family and we flew to DW a few weeks ago, which was awesome. Very nice bubble. DL doesn’t have the same sort of bubble atmosphere tho with it being more local but the safety protocols in place at DW are pretty impressive. I think he believes the risk is too high and is stalling the reopen as far out as he can? Just thoughts.

I wonder if he called them upcoming even after the visits were done as they wanted it to be more secretive and not have guests trying to influence the decision. I know that they are inside the gates, but I could see wanting to keep them away from guests who could be all over them on either side of the spectrum.

Yeah, he's kind of a funny guy. I have a feeling alot of people and unions (which are pretty powerful) are getting on his case quite a bit now. Basically saying "OK, you've stalled long enough and you know it. Time to get people back to work." (Sorry if I got too political there.) I think the stalling train has come and gone now. The next train I want to see coming into the station is the one at Disneyland. :wave2:

I considered bringing my AP along on my trip (NY for one more day and then home to Chicago for about a week tomorrow) just in case anything was announced. I tend to be overly optimistic but given the pace of developments (or virtual lack thereof ;-)), I realized that was too optimistic even for me ;-). I’ll be back in LA on Oct 23 and will visit DTD on the following Sunday. Hopefully there will be some glimmer of hope by then.

Speaking of a glimmer of hope, here’s a pic of the tea I’m enjoying at Caffe Reggio, my favorite NYC cafe :-).

My daughter is in high school band and choir and for months these in person activities were not allowed. The CDPH would not issue guidelines and I thought it would never happen since they have been so reluctant with theme park guidelines and other activities. Directors around the state persisted and on the 14th, the school reopening guidelines were updated to allow outdoor band and choir with masks, social distancing, and covers for wind instruments. My daughter had her first in person rehearsal last night and was so happy to see her friends again. Hopefully this movement is a good sign for the theme park industry.

Just for fun, I Googled "California theme park guidelines" and the old ones from March popped. It's interesting that they recommended extending hours (not shortening) to allow for staggered attendance. That's also a possible way to narrow the window to allow for exposure alerts (ex. If you were at DLR on X day between the hours of A - E)

I also think there is the optics of releasing theme park info while we were in the middle of huge wildfires. For those that don't live in the Bay Area, it was so smoky it looked like night time at 10:00am. I think that may have been part of the "We are not in a hurry" comment.
I think its silly to not have guidelines for every business. We have lots of ice skating rinks and bowling alleys that recently protested because they too have no idea when they can open. I'm curious if Disney and Universal would have pushed back as much if Gavin had said only California could visit the parks, not just the 200 miles or whatever. Just thinking outloud.
