Disneyland Reopening Speculation Superthread

I would be really shocked if they announced another AP type program. I don’t see that happening for quite some time. But you never know! Disney has certainly surprised me before!

They have already said they are developing a new annual pass program. It's well in the works and I expect it to be launched imminently. With the CA resident restrictions in place, they are going to want to entice Californians to drop the big bucks up front. As they can increase capacity and open up to out of state residents, their daily tickets sales will increase, but I think for now, they will want to grab as many people who are ready to commit to a membership program while the hype is there for the reopening. Like other annual passes, they will likely start the clock on the first day you ACTUALLY are able to visit, which will give people peace of mind in making the purchase while the reservation system is in place.

I'm glad there's a reopening date, but what I really want is info on the new AP/Membership/Whatever-It-Is program. I'm excited to get back, but I'm not in a rush to buy a one day ticket for a one day visit. I'm more interested in the long game.
We will definitely go for a single day as a birthday visit if that’s all that’s available, but beyond that, I’m also anxiously awaiting the membership info.

I should have clarified and said I don’t expect another AP program to be announced when they announce ticket sales for the reopening. I know eventually they will do some kind of membership program. Just would be shocked if they do one right away.

I see a multi day ticket option happening first. Kind of like the SoCal resident ticket before a membership program.

Curious to see exactly what happens.

I just heard the news! Apologies that I haven’t attempted to catch up on all the posts, but is the reopening limited to CA residents for now?

I wonder what the hours will be. Looking at Magic Kingdom in Disney World, non spring break, they are open 9:00-6:00

The timing is great for us. My daughter's last day of school for her junior year of college is April 28 and she has 12 days off until she starts May term. That's 10 days to try and nab a reservation for us.

We'll hopefully be back at the end of June as well as a family to celebrate her birthday celebration that was cancelled last year, but we'll throw in my son's high school graduation from last year and becoming an Eagle Scout and my husband and I are celebrating our 25th anniversary in July. Oh, and my mother in law turned 80 who will be with us as well. Let's just celebrate everything!

Yup. Statewide guideline for all California theme parks: residents only until further notice.
Thanks. The normal news did not report that. Gonna be a lot of disappointed people, lol. I’m starting to softly hope for March 2022.

Huh, strange. All the major reports I've seen mentioned it. It's a fairly important detail to not gloss over 😬. So weird!

Here's hoping things improve and we can all get back to our happy place and do so safely! Baby steps 😊

Long time no see EmJ!

Are you talking CO news? I saw it pop up briefly on the news today too but it was more like 'Disneyland reopens April 30th' briefly before moving on. No mention of the restriction. Word will get out, I'm hopeful it won't last too long- your trip will happen eventually! I remember the wild coaster ride of cancellations we had last year well. And not the kind of coaster I like!

Okay I have a question for locals. The 15% comes from the Governor and has to do with tiers corrects?

Let's say a California resident is able to get tickets (and reservations) for the first couple of weeks of the opening. Is it possible for Orange County to reach the next (or two more) tier(s) before opening (and thus greatly increase capacity) and allowing DL to release more tickets for opening?

Helping an instate resident decide about her family, they can deal with some rides, shows parade etc because of the trade off for the early capacity. If it ends up being not 15%, that's requires more thought if it's better to wait.

So when is the next tier even possible for Orange County and when it is likely?

I'm not a California resident but I have been following everything very closely since the parks closed last March.

If I was a California resident I would just go ahead and try to get tickets and reservations no matter what the capacity % or tier level. Compared to how the parks were before Covid, even 25% will feel empty. If they are comfortable even to think about visiting Disneyland during this reopening stage, then just go for it. There is going to be so much demand anyway, that they might not even get tickets and reservations.

If they have tickets and reservations, they can decide to cancel if the crowd levels are too much for their comfort level, but if they don't even try to get tickets and reservations, they don't have that option.

Honestly, it could have been reader-error :) I knew I’d get the best information here anyway, haha.

I was actually looking at NBC News but didn’t read too closely because I was scrambling between work tasks. I’m still too scared to get my hopes up, but another full year seems like it should be doable, right?! We aren’t traveling this summer for sure. It’s just too uncertain still. But at least there’s light at this end of this tunnel.

I found this over on the Theme Parks Attractions Strategies board, it might be useful for California residents to have a read of it as most likely the same reservation system will be at Disneyland when it reopens.

Walt Disney World Reservation System

I also don’t expect AP sales to happen for a while, maybe end of summer season. They sold out Taste of Disney in hours. Since the 120 miles travel advisory is being ignored, there are plenty of people in CA to keep them busy. I do predict a SoCal ticket deal coming quickly though as an in between. Prob $400 for 4 days with a long expiration window.
