Disneyland Reopening Speculation Superthread

Hi,
New poster here. I have been following these boards for many years mostly for WDW and RunDisney. I finally registered after I have been following this particular thread since last August. I won't be trying to break or bend any rules on the restrictions but I needed to say somewhere where I think other Disney fans will understand. I am a travel nurse and I have been in Southern California since last August and am now on a contract that will end in August. It makes me very sad that I can spend a year here taking care of all levels of sick patients COVID and not but when Disneyland opens I won't be allowed in probably because my legal residency is in another state. So at the very least I can keep dreaming that the California residents only restriction will lift before then. I have seen some really great places but I did really hope to see Disneyland before my time is up here.
Hi, and welcome! It would be inaccurate of me.to say I understand your position, but I am so sorry that you may not be able to come to Disneyland. The back and forth on the restrictions set for DLR are confusing and new, but I do hope that if you cannot attend DLR as soon as they open that you can come back later this year when restrictions are (hopefully) lifted! Have you thought about WDW as well? Maybe get some Disney before you go?

I think that if you’ve lived here since August, you’d probably be considered a CA resident. You don’t have a utility bill with a CA address? Not everyone (military etc) will have California IDs even though they’re residents, so they’ll have to have some mechanism for that.

Thank you for helping care for us. ❤️

I agree. If you have any piece of official mail, like a bill, with your name and a CA address, it will likely be accepted as proof. You won't need a CA ID, specifically.

My husband and I are actually heading to Disney World in May with adult children (after 3 canceled trips last year including a dream trip to Italy I needed something to plan for) but I really just hoped to see Disneyland a few times while I was here.

I can see the distancing rules relaxing completely while outdoors pretty soon, to be honest. The whole idea that people can spread Covid outdoors when not in actual contact with each other has always been suspect,
I'm not sure I'd be comfortable with no social distancing outside.

I know who I got Covid from. I know we were both outside, he was without a mask (I had one.). It was under 10 mins we were talking, we were probably 2-4 feet apart. I *thought* it was safe enough outside. (It was a Tuesday.)

I gave it to my daughter. We were both outside for about 30 mins sitting about 3 feet apart. We both did take our masks off, as we felt we had been safe. (This was a Friday.)

Sunday night/Monday, I was seriously ill. My daughter started getting ill Monday night.

I completely understand, but it looks like the others on here have made some very good suggestions that I didn't know about. Hopefully you can come to DL very soon with your family!!

It has been my pleasure to care for my patients and I have met some amazing people and done some amazing things. I am just not holding my breath until I see what the official plan is on how they address the residency question. (And if I can't go I won't we will just work on a future plan that will involve Disneyland and The Rose Parade another bucket list item)

....NOT looking forward to 100% capacity, as that was always a nightmare when it occurred ! Even at 75% the parks would be really crowded !
I know same here! That's why I'm looking to go as soon as they reopen to experience what it's like to have no long lines or crowds

I am feeling so stressed and down right now. We are stuck. VGC rental reservations confirmed for 7 nights in July. WA resident. Either come to Disneyland and not be able to visit the parks or lose $4,000. This was a rescheduled trip from last July. COVID sucks.

I have no advice to you but wanted to say that sucks. There are a lot of people on these boards who feel for you and I really hope Disney does the right thing and either extends your dates or opens up for all. I know it's the state who would decide that but hopefully they get some pressure. I'm from Washington too and it's been nice to finally move through some of our phases.

Could you look into renting out the points to recoup some of your money?

I wouldn't pay more than $20 a point myself either.... but if the hotel either isn’t open or sells out and access is guaranteed, others might! Like cruisehopeful said, I could throw it up for something crazy and if someone takes it, great, if not we’ll go. Running the math, I’d have to get $25/point to cover the same 3 nights at the Hotel Del Coronado, which would be my goal. Dang that place is soooooo expensive, but we’ve never been.
We enjoyed a 3-night reservation at the Hotel Del just last month! Booked the stay using our DVC points (Concierge Collection) as our Grand Cal reservations were cancelled over and over ...

Tips for the Del:
  • The "Cabana" rooms are 'modern' ... the 'Victorian' rooms are, frankly, old. If you book Victorian, be sure you can appreciate the quaintness that goes with the age and history. To reach our room, in the Victorian section, we walked up steps that were crooked, floors that slanted this way and that way ... and low ceilings that did likewise. Kinda creepy, initially ... until we learned to embrace the journey that led to our super perfect room (see photo below).
  • Consider booking a package that includes vouchers towards meals. Our stay included breakfasts (two were table service at Shearwater; one was counter service at Eno Market) and they were fantastic! If you exchange your DVC points ... ask about your DVC MS rep about "Membership Magic" at the Del. We received a laundry list of 'perks' booking via DVC. :)
  • The specialty coffees at Eno Market (counter service) are fabulous and well priced! 20z Mexican Mocha Latte for $6? Yes!
  • Parking is ~$40/day. And you might also be charged a "Resort Fee" ($25/day?) depending on how you book.
  • The hotel has started to re-open activities. They had just started when we visited in late Feb and their schedule seemed to have new things introduced (phased-in) weekly.
  • Our room, in the Victorian section, did NOT have daily housekeeping. Daily Housekeeping Service, at least in this section, had been discontinued for Covid-19 measures. Once we realized this ... we relaxed knowing that no-one would be entering our room. Phew.
  • There are many restaurants within easy walking distance.
  • The beach is sooooo lovely. Wide, white sand. Awesome.
  • There is construction on the original, main entrance and interior "mall." These sections are completely closed during the construction. The check-in desk has been moved outside to the courtyard and the "entrance" is now in back. We drove in using "service entrance" as our vehicle is too tall for the underground parking. (Queue thoughts of Tower of Terror, sorta.)
  • The service was really "spot on." We were entirely thrilled with our choice to stay at the Hotel Del Coronado!
Our room, booked via DVC points, was an ocean-view, corner room on the 5th floor. Expand photo below to find it:

This also doesn't account for vaccination - I think outdoors, masks, a decent proportion vaccinated... there's not much more we can do. people are kidding themselves if they think this won't be an endemic virus, and at some point everyone will have to either 1. assume the small risk that comes with associating with anyone or 2. stay home.

It's my sister that actually has the rental. I said I split with her. She doesn't keep up on this stuff like I do. Hopefully she will take some advice and try to see if David's can rent the points. The stress over this vacation (its been going on over a year now), is getting to me.

I know this is unpopular, but I'm still in favor of DL letting in out of staters who are vaccinated. Recent data continues to provide evidence that vaccines not only stop severe disease but also prevent infection and transmission. The messaging that you still can't do anything even after vaccinated is stopping a lot of people from choosing vaccination IMO. At least in my area.

It's not that it's an unpopular opinion, it's that it's not a decision DL gets to make. And would be pretty hard to monitor. Those vaccine cards are easily forged.

There are no perfect answers on how to do it. And every way is going to seem unfair to somebody else. I think keeping to in state residents is probably the easiest way for them to control it.

All counties that have major theme parks are now in Red, with San Diego moving today. Let's just hope vaccine roll out picks up the pace here and our numbers continue to decline, hopefully making this a moot point in the near future!

haha yes I should amend my comment to say: I wish Gavin Newsom would allow vaccinated people to enjoy his state. I'm kind of surprised there isn't some sort of electronic registry TBH, as 1984 as that sounds.
