Disneyland Divas working out, getting healthy, and looking fine in '09!!

Hi Ladies!

Sorry I haven't posted in awhile. Got kind of lazy on vacation, I guess. I did continue exercising, but not nearly at the pace I need to for DL 1/2 marathon training. Two mile runs just don't cut it. And chocolate macadamia nut pancakes aren't good for waistline, no matter how tasty. Anyhow, it's time to refocus and get back on track. I need a good run tomorrow to boost my confidence in my ability to pull this off. I'm going to make the 1/2 marathon regardless, however I have to drag myself across the finish line. It will happen!

SARAH: Great job on your weight loss and for sticking with it. Your job sounds like it makes it really challenging to keep up with routines, but it is so important to stay healthy and I'm so glad you are doing it! You rock!!:woohoo: Oh, and I'm sure there are some great point friendly cocktail drinks! Have a great time with your friends! :cool1:

BETH: Congrats on maintenance! That is really a wonderful accomplishment. Sorry that you aren't feeling very motivated right now. You have done a lot to be proud of: the weight loss and all those health appointments and the dentist. Maybe you just need a breather. But know that we believe in you to go farther!! I'm still holding out to run that 5k someday with you!

VICKI: Hey girlfriend! How are you? How's that foot? Stop by and let us know!

DONNA: Where in the world are you? Hope you're having a wonderful time!

KELLY: Have a great trip!

CRISTABEL: Much pixie dust to you for school! :wizard: I'm so excited for you and know that you will do just great!

And HUGS and CHEERS to everyone!!

I'm so tired and am literally falling asleep at the computer, so I'd better go to sleep!

Take care everyone,
Jen

So I have been reading all your posts and am really impressed. Even when you may have faltered all of you seem really committed to getting healthy!!

I am really frustrated though. I have been working out ~5-6 days a week. Mostly a good mix of cardio and resistance work. But I am still 5 lbs above overweight (on wii). It's frustrating because I can't seem to get down to under that line. I've gotten close, but still bounce back. :(

Any suggestions to keep me going? I have had a couple compliments from people saying that I look like I'm losing weight, but my clothes still fit the same & my lbs is still the same.

First of all, CONGRATULATIONS!!! Working out 5-6 days a week is awesome and I'm SURE you are more healthy and looking better as a result. Don't get discouraged about the weight thing. You probably just need to tweak your program to see the pounds drop.

I recommend that you write down your goals and include more than just a number of the scale. Take your measurements. Put down your exercise goals: eg, want to be able to run this far, lift this weight, work out this many times per week. And also, if you have some other goal like want to fit into this dress or wear this swimsuit, put it down on your goal list. And then put down the weight goal. I suggest using the BMI index to find a healthy number for you for weight.

If you really want to/need to drop the pounds, you probably will need to put more focus on what you are eating. Are you on Weight Watchers or another program? Do you track all your calories? Basically, studies have shown that when it comes down to it, losing weight it simple: calories in versus calories burned. But then of course you do need to make sure that you are getting the nourishment you need. If you are already on an exercise regimen, then you are burning more calories, so once you get the "calories in" part right, weight loss should be easier.

To be honest, it's the eating right part that I have the most problem with and have a hard time sticking with tracking my foods or eliminating certain items from my diet. Fortunately, with exercise you have more wiggle room to make those eating mistakes.

GOOD LUCK! And CONGRATS on all the great work you have done! :woohoo: Remember this is about feeling good and being healthy, not just about a number on a scale.

Thanks for the suggestions. I have some goals in mind, but haven't written them down. I will do that tonight & put it by our budget sheet (look at it multiple times every day). One question: any idea on what a healthy inch loss is? I know you should look to lose no more than ~1.5-2 lbs per week but what does that equate to in inches. I want to set realistic goals.

I am watching what I eat. I used to be on Weight Watchers but now just do the same via an Excel sheet I have. It is definately not easy as my DH still hasn't made the commitment to do similar. So portion control has honestly been my hardest thing. I try to get him to share when we eat out, but that doesn't always happen.

Thanks again!!! :)

I know you said you are doing WW via an excel spreadsheet but are you sure you are doing the right amount of points a day? Things have changed in the past few years and the points may be different...just a thought if you are not getting the results you want. Let me know if you want to recalculate your points with the new formula.

I think a healthy waistline for women is 34/35 inches or below, but I'd check online to validate that. I have no idea how many inches/centimeters one could hope to lose a week. Instead of focusing on weekly goals, I like to focus on overall where I want to get to and the process of how I will get there. I just use the weekly measurements to keep on track and to tweak the program if it isn't working, and most importantly to keep myself honest when I'm not following the program. In my mind, it's better just to pick a goal (overall or midterm) and stick to it, however long it takes. It's about permanent lifestyle changes and learning to eat and exercise better. The results will come.

Also, definitely separate your eating goals and choices from your husband's. Ultimately, it's about your commitment and learning how to stick with the plan even if your husband chooses to indulge. And hopefully, being a good role model will make him want to change to, on whatever path he takes, on his timeline.

So, I did a five mile run today. Wasn't that great. Hopefully can get a really good long run in this weekend or soon (12 miles would make me happy). Ugh.

Nite nite everyone.

It's Friday. Time to check in!

Went to the ObGyn today. Fun, fun. NOT. I hate going to the ObGyn, but you gotta do it. And next week I get to go in for my first mammogram. More fun. Anyway, got an official weight: 135. Then got my behind to the trail for a long run. Did a little more than 10 miles. That will do. It was hard. I am tired and grumpy now. Kind of thought I ran more than that, but when I came home and mapped it, seems it was less than 10.5 miles. Anyhoo, that will do and hopefully I can add another mile to that for my last training run before taper. Not excited about that. Hopefully, will feel more inspired in a couple days when I'm not so grumpy and tired. Need a nap.

Swiss front: my DH got his visa approved today which is two weeks before we thought possible. So this may change things in terms of departure date. May not. We have a couple days to churn it over. Too tired right now to churn. Must get that nap.:upsidedow

Later...

Happy to report a great loss this week! I am only .2 lbs from my 35 lb clippie...woo hoo!

Hi everyone
I'm not active on this thread because my whole weight loss mission is pretty much non-existent right now. I've been out the house for days at time, enjoying my family and the food. I've been swimming pretty frequently and not sitting down at the computer or tv for very long. I have also not been getting enough sleep. I think I have stayed up the latest this summer. I need to start going to bed by 11pm (latest!) because I'll be starting school in 16 days!

I'm bummed that I wasted a perfectly good summer by not losing weight. In the past I was able to stick to an exercise schedule and ate healthier but then again this summer is not like past ones. This is my last summer at home and I think I'm just enjoying it for all it's worth. I want to get serious about getting healthy and smaller but I don't think I'll have the rhythm down until mid September. I'm glad that there is a gym in my dorms and also on campus. Best of all, it's free!

Ok, it's getting awfully quiet again on this thread. Hello everybody!!

All's going well here. Things are progressing nicely for our Switzerland move. My DH got his visa approval and I have so far received approval to transfer with my job, pending VP sign off. Visa permit came for DH and the family's is expected to follow shortly. So tentative departure date is September 12. Of course, there's no way I'm leaving before the 1/2 marathon!

Training is OK. Toes are bruised and a couple nails about to fall off after the long run. I tried alternative cardio last night, as I do want to have toe nails for the race. Running is good for the legs, but apparently NOT for the toes. :rotfl:

In preparation for the new school year and the imminent move, I've been thoroughly innundated with appointments: doctor's and dentist's appointments for both kids, my pap, my first mamo today (squish...ouch...no fun at all). Plus I went ahead with a dermatologist appointment finally to start getting treatment for the pigmentation on my face (you wonder why I always wear a baseball cap?) Then met with property management company to rent house. Plus tax consultant as government says we owe more money :headache: It's never ending. I need a break! Good thing there is a trip to Disneyland at the end of this mad rush to get ready to move.

So far I'm keeping my cool with the half marathon. Panic didn't set in until about a week prior for the last race, so I guess I should be prepared for a similar reaction, though hopefully a little less intense since this will be my second race.

Haven't stepped on a scale this week. Eating has been OK. I'm not sure if I will even weigh myself before the race. We'll see...

OK, got to go finish cooking dinner. Chicken cacciatore. Hope everyone is well and do take time and energy to take care of yourself!!!

CONGRATULATIONS!!!:yay::yay::yay::yay:

YOU ROCK GIRLFRIEND!!!! :cool1::cool1::cool1::cool1:

Any updates on how the clothes are fitting? That's like 120 sticks of butter that have melted away!

Sarah, I found your melted butter sticks for you!! lol

Jen, have you thought about getting a Facebook page? That would be an easy way for all the Divas to follow your move and keep in touch. Plus you can post pics on there that only your friends can see. Just a thought.

Actually, already have a blog going for the family. Wanted to show how we will be able to keep in touch from abroad. If anyone is interested, can check it out at grinold.blogspot.com

And I have a facebook account. How do I find you?

Oh Beth...:scared1: Hopefully not all 120 sticks!

As for me, I had my wi last night and lost .6! I am very pleased with that because it gets me to 35 lbs lost plus it was my t.o.m. so any loss is a great loss! Only 9.4 to go till I am at the weight I am hoping for for my disney trip!

Jen! Congrats on things going so well (except for the bit about the toenails :scared1:) I hope Switzerland is everything you dream it to be! I am on facebook too....Beth, send me a friend suggestion if you haven't already, K? Thanks!

Have a great op day everyone and don't forget to drink your water!

Hi my exercising divas!!! We got back from Canada the night before last and I'm still jet-lagged. The great news is that in spite of eating copious amounts of rich food, I LOST a pound and a half! :cool1:

So the exercise is key. I walked every day, often up and down hills (Quebec City is major hills), climbed stairs to various museums and churches. I felt muscles in my hips that I never use!

So of course I still believe that watching what you eat is mandatory, I also got a real-life sense of how important it is to move your body. That's hard when you're working and can't be out walking and seeing things, but I need to get to the gym more often and then try to add walking when I can (parking far away at the store, etc.).

I saw on tv how one office lost weight because they put treadmills by the computers so people walked slowly while typing. I would love that!

Beth - you have done something that just makes me feel in awe of your accomplishment. To maintain that, is a big big deal. So it's okay if you're not losing more right now, and wonderful that you're holding your numbers. You are taking a break and I know you'll make your next goal.

Jen! It sounds like you were able to keep your job in the Switzerland transfer? :yay: You will have such a healthy lifestyle there, you'll be hiking and eating fresh food and sightseeing.... It's going to be great.

Kerry, great to see you here. I also have the Wii.... thanks for reminding me I have it. I'm going to work in an afternoon session.

Cristabel - it sounds like you've got a clear picture of what you need to do. School can be motivating - remember your goals when there and watch out for using food as comfort from stress and you'll be fine.

Sarah - congrats, girl! I did drink a lot of water every day while traveling. We started with the local water and both found it upset our systems, so we drank Canadian bottled water, flat, at every meal. Then had water in our hotel rooms. Diet sodas were too expensive (they would often just give you a few ounces and no refills), so we had very few of those.

Opposite of how I eat when losing weight, I ate three larger meals a day on the trip. It may have helped that the food was really good quality, fresh and lots of veggies. But we still enjoyed ourselves. :)

So I'm up early with jet lag and dressed for the gym! I don't even know what my gym looks like this early in the morning. :lmao:

Well I am now convinced that something is DEF wrong with me. I didn't eat perfectly but I didn't eat TOO badly either and we walked MILES and I mean MILES every single day including up and down stairs etc on our trip and I gained back EVERYTHING I have lost recently and then some. Something is NOT right. Certainly whatever bad food I may have eaten on our trip I would have at least burned off with ALL that walking. In my opinion I should have burned off what we ate and THEN some. I do know though that the humidity was awful and every day I was swollen up like crazy from the heat so that didn't help but I think because of all this pain I am in my body is retaining fluid like crazy. I read that somewhere one time that when you are in pain it is a natural response.

I sure hope so cuz this is ridiculous!

Congrats to all those that have lost though. I am just SO frustrated cuz I have busted my BUTT to get these pounds off and without doing hardly anything AND with walking like crazy I GAINED. I just hope that when I ever get this health mess figured out that it all starts coming back off! I can't even go back to exercising right now because I am in too much pain and I am afraid it is just going to keep going up! :(

Hey all, it's been awhile. I am pretty cranky. I went down a point this week and it is messing with my mind. I have eaten over my points target 3 out of 5 days. I am still on track as it is still within my weekly allowance points but it hasn't been doing much for my moral and I am struggling to make good choices. I haven't had to work as much the past couple days and we have family in town so I am using that as my excuse for not working out. Pretty soon I will run out of excuses and will have to fess up that I just really don't want to work out :rotfl: My husband is becoming a professional personal trainer. Anyone else see a problem here?

Later,
Sarah
