Disneyland Divas working out, getting healthy, and looking fine in '09!!

Hi everyone!!

I have been reading this days posts, and I am sorry for all of you who are discouraged...or horrified or injured.

I haven't exercised since Sunday as I worked a 10 hour day yesterday, then went home and fell asleep EARLY!! Today I am at work and just ate a peanut butter sandwich for lunch. So I think you ALL have one up on me!!

I did park 5 blocks from work both yesterday and today so sneak a few more steps into my day, but that is likely it until I swim on Thursday!!..

I haven't weighed myself, but with just my three weeks of swimming and watching my diet a teeny bit, I am visibly less squishy in the middle. That is
enough encouragement to keep me going. My fat pants are not hurting today!!!!

I am going to start arm work next week, I have strong fairly muscled arms with my swimming and animal wrestling job., but they need toning. I do have a very prominant trapezius!! Okay, gotta find something to gloat about.

Good luck this week everyone!!

Ok, NSV (non-scale victory) tonight
I have worked out three consecutive days! :cool1:
I drank 12 cups of water!

:cheer2:

Amazing how this running gets in your blood, I would have never in a million years believed this would happen to me but I've caught the running bug!!

I just bought Jullians 30 day shred but haven't even opened it! How is it besides being tough?? I need to do something on my off day from running.

I bought a resistance band kit at Target this weekend too. :) I used to have the bands and did the Beach Body workout and it was great and I saw great results in my arms especially so I thought about trying that on my off days. I thought I had packed my bands when I moved to CA but I can't find them anywhere so I decided to just buy some more and maybe use the included DVD along with the Beach Body workout. I can't decide and I get bored easily so I have several choices now.

I want nice arms again too! My upper body used to be my thinnest part but not now...ugh! I'm hoping Jillian or the resistance bands will help!

I am not sure what the 5K pace is but that sounds about right. I now average 14 min. miles and sometimes I can get into the 13min. range. Hopefully, if I decide to do the DL 5k I should be able to increase my pace by then. If not I should give up!!

Would love to get together and do a fast walk...but I may not be the best person for fast walking...I have these short legs that just don't seem to move very fast walking. I would rather run than walk fast seems easier in a way.:confused3

I weighed Monday and didn't loose a thing since I weighed on Friday so I am ignoring my scales right now. I hate being good and not seeing a smaller number...even 1/2 lb would be nice!

I really think you're going to see nice numbers with your consistent running! Let us know what you think of the new workout dvd. I always like hearing about new ones.

I don't really know how elliptical corresponds to walking speed. Do you use a treadmill? That might be a more comparable exercise. And yes, the speed is 15 minute mile - an it can be walking.

And what are the ways to get through being addicted to carbs? :confused3

I'm going to go to the gym now to do my weight routine. It's rainy, so I don't know how/if the run is going to happen. Maybe I'll do some cardio on the machines.

I usually do the elliptical because that machine is kind to my achillis tendonitis. But the machines were full yesterday when the aerobics class was cancelled and I had to get on the treadmill. It showed how long I was taking to do a mile and it feels like I'll have to run to do a 15 min mile.

My trainer said to go outside and walk a mile and time it.

The way I was shown how to break a carb addiction (or a sugar addiction), is to go off them for three days while adding more protein throughout the day. Lots of water. The first three days are really rough but then it gets easier. Then after the first two weeks, it gets a lot easier. I'm not saying all carbs are bad or good, I'm just saying if someone says they feel they have an addiction, this is a way I was shown how to get over it.

Gloat away! I see a new workout DVD coming...
"Animal Wrestle Those Pounds Away!
Exercise with animals and AmySue"
:rotfl2:

I did a 40 workout, mostly arms, and 30 min on the elliptical. I was worried because I had reached a new low number last week. Well, with one party it went back up. I ate really well yesterday and worked out hard and the number was back down today (for my gym weigh-in day). Whew.

BTW, are you runners tracking your blood pressure changes?

Sleeps important too. Well I was inspired by a poster here and swam for a 1/2hour Saturday. I'm not a great swimmer in the fast that I can't breast stroke (have issues with the face in water thing) but have no problem with back and side stroke. To give myself a break I use the kick board- hold it out in front of me every so often. Have been fighting off being sick and have succumbed a little, feeling very drug out. Think I'll up the water and rest more. Will have to eat less to make that work-- that sucks. I want to get to 150 by next Friday so I can go see Angels and Demons.

My mom said it was ok if I took a day off from exercise since I worked out Thursday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. She says it's best so I don't get burned out.

Breakfast
- 3 egg whites
- 2 slices turkey bologna
- 1/2 a wheat-free/ gluten-free banana nut muffin

Lunch
banzai bowl from Wahoo's (800kcal) I know it's high in calories but it was all healthy food (grilled chicken, black beans, grilled vegetables and rice) the whole "platter" (according to calorie king. com) is 1075:scared1::scared1::scared1: It's a VERY good thing I left 1/4 of the plate. It would have been beneficial to go to they gym right afterwards

Dinner
- 4oz pot roast
- string beans
- corn on the cob
- 1/2 potato

I'm hoping that all stayed within my 1700 calories.

Oh well, tomorrow I'm back to the gym

Hello Ladies..... I had no idea there was a thread dealing with weight issues & what the heck to do about it!!

I don't remember ever being skinny.....I wouldn't say I was fat thru high school, but bigger. I always dreaded weigh in day during PE....ugh. I never got involved in sports until after high school. I played softball from age 18 until I was 35.....loved the sport & was good at it.....really miss it now!

I was married in 1984 & was pregnant 6 months later & then it seemed I was either pregnant or just gave birth the next 4 yrs. With each pregnancy I gained a little weight & never lost it between the 3 pregnancies. When I was staying active I hovered around 200-210. When I had to stop playing softball do to all the aches & pains, I found out I had fibromyalgia. I found it hard to sleep so I was lethargic & un-enthused about life. I was put on anti-depressants & ended up topping the scales at 250lbs. That didn't help the depression either. It was in 2005 that I reached that amt. I lost some weight when my marriage had some serious issues.....the only time I've lost weight. Things are great now & I've plateau'd at 214lbs. (by the way I'm 5'9").

So since I'm a huge pepsi/coke drinker (with the fibro I was advised not to use "fake" sugar) I've never made the switch to diet....not good. In fact most of my daily intake is soda. I don't tend to eat, except for dinner. I know.....bad, bad, bad....I hear this from my mother all the time. She says that since I tend to fast during the day, that when I do eat....my body takes it all in & that's why I don't lose weight even with no eating.

With all the kiddos, the thought of going to a health club isn't going to happen (and we can't afford it). I'm tired by mid-day & exercising is definately not high on my list of priorities....... So my question is....what's a girl to do. I'm not on a "diet" & pretty much need to eat what we make for the family...but I definately eat less than my 8 yr old.

HELP!!!! How do I get started here & how do I find the time & energy to exercise at home (and what kind of exercise???).

thanx for the help!!

Welcome!!! :cheer2::cheer2::cheer2:

Your body and mind will thank you for TAKING the time to take care of yourself with a healthier lifestyle.

Maybe you could just start out with a few changes to your lifestyle. Even if you just did the following three things, I bet you would notice some remarkable changes:

1) Wake up early in the morning and exercise. Start with just 20 minutes. You don't need to be a member of a gym to workout. Excellent options are walking or exercise with videos. They have some great resistance bands, exercise balls, etc with videos that aren't too pricey and can be kind of fun. I'm sure ladies on this board could make recommendations.

2) Eat a good breakfast. Start you day out with some protein, calcium, fruit. Even if you are not hungry. This will help you to get energy and to start that metabolism going.

3) Eliminate soda from your diet. Best replacement: water. Other good options: iced tea, diluted juice.

If you do these three simple things (not so simple to change habits, but easy to remember these things), I bet you will see a big difference. Ultimately, you are going to want to think about what you are eating all day long to make sure you are fueling your body. But just start with eating breakfast and kicking the soda habit and see what happens!

GOOD LUCK!

Thanx Jen
I know the soda's got to go...but it's the only caffeine I get (don't do coffee or teas), but if I could eliminate the bulk of it....I'd probably be hungry to eat meals.
Suggestions for videos would be good....I really want to get rid of the jello arms.....lol
So how do you make yourself eat breakfast (not hungry) when you haven't done it since 10th grade???? Just the smell of food tends to nauseate me first thing in the morning.

Today I'll try to cut my soda from 6 cans to 3 cans (don't want to go into caffeine withdrawls).

Thanx for helping me jumpstart this process!!

If you just did one thing it would make a huge difference in your weight and your health. Six cans of soda with sugar every day is also not good for fibro. Some people don't have any caffeine, btw - I don't. But I understand your body has been relying on it.

You say you don't do teas. Tea can actually have health benefits and there are all kinds of them - some hot, some cold. If you can find one you like, then there's your caffeine.

Another suggestion for subbing for your soda is sparkling water with some lemon juice in it. You'll get the carbonation that way.

Welcome Diznee Luver!! I was fairly thin in high school...110 when I graduated. I gained about 25 lbs in the years until I had my DD - 7 years after I got married and then I gained 40 lbs and had a hard time loosing it. I've lost the the same 40 lbs so many times I have lost count. I am now about 25 lbs heavier then I would like to be. I know I'll never be 110 again and I don't even want to be but I am 5'2" so every ounce shows on me!!

Hang in there and making the small changes that Jen suggests will make a big difference in your health and your weight will follow.

I also add Crystal Light to my water when I get bored. I drink diet soda but have limited myself to only one and that is only after I've drank my water.

I haven't done my new resistant band DVD but I'll let you and Donna know how it is when I get a chance. The bands and the DVD were $22 at Target so not too expensive. I also have Jillian the trainer from he** from Biggest Looser and I have yet to do that one either...I've got to get busy!

Running for me tonight. I was going to get up and do it this morning but we are getting a new patio door put in and the contractor told me yesterday he was coming today between 7:30am and 8:00am and I want to run when it is cooler so I decided to run tonight so I would be here for him...well...he made a mistake on his schedule and he is coming tomorrow so running will be for me tonight when it cools down. I have found that I am not good running in any heat!! I can run longer and easier when it is cool so I'll wait until the sun goes down. Thankfully we live in a fairly safe area and I can run after dark and as late as 9pm and not worry too much.

Have a great day everyone!

Making the switch to water is gonna be a biggie for me.....it's just so.....PLAIN!!
Using a video at home might work for me......don't really like to get physical in front of anyone. It's just finding when..... I already get up at 6:15am to get son off to school & then the girls all start waking up...mornings tend to be hectic....by lunch time I'm worn out. Maybe I can start 15 mins earlier...ugh!
I can't even imagine me running.....yikes!
Thank you!!!

Laurie,

There is a simple fact about water. The more you drink it, the more you crave it. It isn't not a simple task AT FIRST if you don't care for water, but hear me out!

I've never been a big soda drinker, but I have a story I'd like to share and I think that if you keep it in mind it might help you out. I studied abroad in the Greek Islands one year. We walked everywhere so we always had water because hydration was a given. I disciplined myself by limiting myself to water because I knew Greek food was going to be a problem. It worked out in my favor. At first it churned my stomach but I persisted, reminding myself to reach for the bottle. After just two days I found myself reaching for the bottle because I craved the water. Within a week I was chugging the water. I'm not sure what the fl oz. measurements of the large evian bottles are but I drank an equivalent of 6 of those a day (it was hot!)

Although Greek food is made with olive oil, it isn't the healthiest and we ate an ABUNDANCE of it. We ate A LOT of food and drank A LOT of wine EVERY night with dinner for 1/2 of the summer. We also had a fair share of nights of hard drinking with liquors and mixed drinks and a few nights with beers. We had restaurant food every single night.

I weighed 10 pounds less when I came home than when I had left. The walking and the water were the key!

Wow after reading what I had just posted I need to go back to Greece so I can lose 10 lbs :lmao::rotfl2:

lol :lmao: I'm pretty sure I don't want to go to another country to lose weight, but thank you for the info from your trip......guess I'll just have to buckle down & drink it!! It's mind over matter...... (whispering behind my back.....what's the matter with your mind......) :rotfl2:

TOMORROW I WILL DRINK WATER, LOTS OF WATER.......
That will be how I start this journey!

Thanx everyone!!
PS: Vicki that's a great idea about dancing with the girls....they love music & dancing!!!

Yeah I know I wasn't suggesting you go to another country. :lmao: I probably should have placed more emphasis on the making my stomach churn part. I actually had to force the water to go down pretty much. Then I had this turning point in my life where I craved it. *boom* just like that. I've had a couple times in my life where I've had *boom* water craving moments. I can't even explain it. Believe it or not I just went through it again and now its all I'll drink. I actually drank 11 glasses today, but I also did a lot of cleaning so I was very active and I have kidney issues so I have trained myself to drink fluids constantly so I'm special like that. :rolleyes1

Good luck though... you're right you're probably over-thinking it. Mind over matter. You can do it!

Wow after reading what I had just posted I need to go back to Greece so I can lose 10 lbs :lmao::rotfl2:

Sign me up! I LOVE Greece! Fabulous foods. Islands. Gorgeous weather. What's not to love? Oh, distance from the US. I went to Santorini, Mykonos, Crete and Athens back in my 20s. It was awesome and I would love to return!

!

Thank goodness it has cooled off now. What a shocker today's heat was! I went to the gym and got on the elliptical. I was going to stop at my usual 45 min but remembered that yesterday I did 55 min. So I pushed and made it through. Can't believe I did that. If I had the time, I would have stayed for the aerobics class but had to get home.

I was in Athens and Crete in my 20s too, Jen. Did that trek through the canyon, remember that? I realized then what a Greek salad should taste like - warm tomatoes, olives with flavor, sitting outside a tiny cafe on a hilly street with a view of the sea.

I think one of the big reasons we lose weight when we travel (besides the walking) is all the natural, fresh food.

Well I was inspired by a poster here and swam for a 1/2hour Saturday.

Hey, that was me!!! How cool, and frankly unusual, that I could inspire someone in the exercise arena!!! Makes me feel good!!

Good luck on the goal weight loss this week!!

I haven't exercised this week yet. I work 10 hour day monday-wednesday and have so many pets and a kid to care for in the AM that no way I can get up even earlier to exercise. So, I will get in the pool tomorrow!!

All the advise about water is great. I have always been a huge water drinker, I find keeping a bottle with me ALL the time really helps. I put a cooler in my car full of bottled water when I am running around doing errands so I am not tempted to buy the soda in the check out lines. I started doing it as an economical choice (save money where you can), but find I drink a lot more water that way. I also fill my water bottles about 1/3 full with water, freeze it and then fill with water. Major cold, and super good!!!

I do drink soda. I have 1 diet coke a day on the way home from work as my reward for making it through the day!!!!

Keep it up everyone, this thread seems to be helping keep me on track!!
