Disney is in the business of making money, billions in profit aren't enough. They will change, modify, delete, and add to make even more money.

A point reallocation is not the end of the world, and for some people, it's a good thing. That point reallocation will allow me to book an entire extra room for a major family trip, getting the whole family together, because I'll go with the cheapest room option every time.

The change was reasonable but it'll be positive for some and not for others. You could take the other approach, stay standard and use less points.

We've almost always stayed in Congress Park. I really like the pool there. I am not sure what I will try to book once the points change.

CP is my absolute favorite section. I like the quiet pool and the walkability to Downtown Disney and the resort restaurants. Now that they've jacked the price of it (along with every other thing at WDW), I'm completely disenchanted. Sigh.

Disney doesnt gain a thing from point realocation. Other dvc owners gain. Enough owners requested those two sections to make it premium bookable category. Other owners who either don't care where at SSR they stay or don't like those two sections no longer have to subsidize, through their points, other owners who do like those sections.

If they don't care and/or don't like those sections, how exactly are they subsidizing anyone who does? Its not like someone wanting CP is keeping anyone out of the other sections. It's a big resort. It doesn't cost any more to maintain or service those sections than the others. The buses don't run more frequently. There's not a higher level of service. It's just a DVC points grab that has absolutely devalued my ownership. I know they don't care one bit about that, but I sure do.

I am not sure how often the springs was requested, but I have often seen people post here that they were requesting Congress Park. We have done so ourselve twice, once had a wonderful view and the first visit had a view of a tree and another building. I not sure I want to pay extra points when I am not guaranteed a view though. I will pay extra for a view. I haven't decided if it is worth it for a location. And if I want Congress Park and they assign us a room in the Springs, what then? Will I really throwing away points then? That area seems a little busy for me. And lot of parking lot views too.

I can't speak for the poster you quoted but if one feels the value for one area is better than another but they are the same price, those reserving the lower demand area would in effect be subsidizing those reserving the higher demand area. Apparently DVC agrees or they wouldn't have made the change. This is one of the reasons I feel that any buyer ultimately needs to have a cushion in terms of # of points until they get to larger units and higher demand times, usually 10-20%.

Happily they didn't retort to lying and cheating yet, at least I don't see it!

I am sure more people must request those areas. If they are "forcing" you to buy more points, then they must also be forcing others to sell extra points, since they do not need them if they stay in one of the other areas.

CP can walk to Disney Springs. You have to take a plane to get from The Carousel to The Carriage House. Many people are there without cars, which makes the CP a much more desirable area.

I understand being upset, but the fact that you are upset means that staying specifically at CP is important to you (otherwise you would be happy since the stay would be less points), so I am sure it is important to a lot of people, which is going to make it more in demand.

My home resort is BWV, which has 3 categories - BW view, pool & garden view, and standard (although bw & garden view are the same amount of points). I like the freedom of choice to determine how many points we are using. The reallocation at SSR is also a good thing because it will give owners there the same freedom of choice. I can't fathom how anyone would think that this change is a ploy on Disney's part to "force" people to buy more points. What it has done is allow members to stay at SSR for less points. It give them the choice to use more points for a particular view, or to save points by staying in less-requested areas.

There have been reports of such tactics but less than some timeshares. DVC is not the only company that generally operates sales in an ethical fashion.

I agree with you. We also own at BWV and we stay there almost all of the time. I could never justify paying MORE points to stay at SSR than we do to stay at the BWV (for the times we go). Now that we have the option to pay less (or nearly the same) and now that DS is nearly complete, I am much more likely to give SSR a try. I anticipate it will still be easy to get in at 7 months for both categories.

It will be interesting to see if both SSR booking categories are available for short term reservations or if one or the other usually gets booked up first.

While I understand the OP's frustrations, supply vs. demand is a given for any business. And with DVC, if they raise points for one category, they are required to lower them for another category(s) so it all balances out. I would hate to think that my vacation would be ruined simply because I was not in the exact area I preferred. I've owned at OKW for over 20 years and I do often get my request for location simply because I prefer NOT to be in the highest demand area for OKW: Hospitality House. Even with that, I don't always get my request.

There have been VERY few points reallocations since the inception of DVC. My condolences to the OP but I think booking another area they may find it ain't so bad after all and they can still get their accommodations for the same (or less) points. Good luck!

IMO we bought expecting to pay for certain accommodations based on pricing at the time we bought. For Disney to raise prices on Congress Park/Springs or THV after the fact is wrong in my book.

Sorry my frustrated friend. We personally like the Grandstand area so the new charts are a win for us....long as we can GET the Grandstand area....first time we end up stuck in the Carousel not sure when we'll plan on going back. Guess my requests in the future will be Grandstand 1st choice & Paddock 2nd choice. You could always try requesting specifically building 6501-6836 in the Paddock section which would get you closest to Congress Park (although then you're a long way from the Paddock pool & bus stop).

It's not just about me, it's about Disney changing the point requirements after the fact. How would everyone feel if Disney added a $50 booking fee for all reservations? If they can change the point requirements they can change all kinds of things.
