Disney YES Program Open to non-groups

Has anyone attended the Animation Magic class? My boys are enrolled for July 28, just wondering what to expect.

Hello all!
Just wanted to share - we did the World of Physics -Energy and Waves with my DS11 last week. I thought it was great! We got to go backstage at the Haunted Mansion, we did Philharmagic and Stitch. I do think my son got something out of it and it was great to do something extra and different - not to mention the great deal you get on the tickets! So we were very pleased. I recommend this program to anyone who might be interested!!

Thank you!! We're doing this class in August with DD10 (then 11) and DD13. We're looking forward to it, other than Stitch. Are they just trying to get more people in that show or something? Oh well. LOL

For August they show the class split up into 8-11 and 12-17. Is this how they actually split everybody up?

If you add on more classes is it $26 extra per person (adults too) or per student?

If you add extra class or classes beyond the 1st class enrolled in then it is additional $26 per student per class and if adult is accompanying to class $26 per class.

We got back from WDW last week and we did the Wild By Nature class on 6/14. Kids had a great time. It was HOT! We did the Safari ride as part of the class (through the FP line). Then at the end of the class, sort of an option to go to It's Tough To Be a Bug. It was the end of the class, so some chose to leave. When we got to ITTBAB, the standby line was 15 minutes. Apparently, their rule is that if the standby line is 15 minutes or less, the class uses the standby line instead of the FP line. It was our last day, it was HOT... after the class we were just going to get lunch, hit DTD one last time and then head out of town. So we opted to skip the 15-minute line and just headed out of AK.

The kids enjoyed the class. We did something at AK we hadn't done before - the Maharajah Jungle Trek.

Last year the kids did the Synergy in Science class at EPCOT, which they also enjoyed. We didn't accompany them to that class, though.

One of our kids this time said he liked the Wild By Nature class better than the Synergy in Science, but that could just be because it had been 15 months since the last class. We didn't get any comments from the other 2 kids.

I'd like to try one of the MK classes next time. I think this was pretty much the only thing available for our kids' age group on the day we needed.

For 2011 they did not have Individual Enrollment classes in May.

For 2011 Individual Enrollment classes were in January through mid-February and are also scheduled for June, July, August, September and October.

I'm pretty sure I can't get through the whole 192 pages, so if it's OK, I'll post some basic questions:

I just found out about the YES program today, and I'm really intrigued.

We're hoping for a trip in August 2012, and I would love to get my kids involved. But we would be staying for 7 nights and want the meal plan, so that means a package. How do we work paying for the package and the YES program??

Also, are there programs you would particularly recommend???

I can tell you what we did. We bought the YES tickets, and then rented points. Because we rented points, we can add the dining plan. Our original 8 nights in a studio at the Boardwalk, plus 8 day premium tickets, plus the DDP cost us virtually the same amount that "free" dining had cost us at a mod for 8 nights last year. Actually it worked out to be a little less. We added 4 days at an OKW studio as well so that put us over our free dining/mod stay from last year.

So if you rent points, you can still add the DDP. If you want dining through a Disney reservation you have to have tickets ( I think just one day) and that kind of kills all savings on the tickets. So this is a nice alternative for us and we are looking forward to staying in the Epcot area

ETA) We used a points broker because this was the first time we rented and it made us feel much more secure (David's DVC that advertises here). I could have saved even 300 or more if I had gone with a private renting arrangement such as on the Rent/Trade board. I wasn't ready to wade into all that this time, but I wouldn't be adverse to trying that out in the future.

the only other way I know is to buy a 1 day ticket (think you can still do that) for everyone and put them up for a later trip. You can have them removed from your KTTW card.

Or not do the dining plan at all and plan your meals out of pocket for what you would have paid for the plan.

Or get a nice pool home off site for the week for less than one room at a value You'd save enough to eat whatever you want every day without having to have the DDP. My group of 8 is getting 7 day park hoppers through YES for $1500, and staying in a 5 bedroom pool home 3 miles from Disney for 8 nights for $807. Even if you fly in and have to rent a car, you'd still come out ahead.

That is actually what we are doing. We got a townhouse with a pool (3 bedroom/3 bath) at Windsor Hills for $100 a night. We plan to cook some, got some restaurants.com certificates for a few meals, and will only eat a few onsite. Some of the onsite restaurants aren't on the plan (RFC and TRex) so we aren't missing the plan at all!

Dining plan will increase in cost for 2012... do your math... its not really worth it any more. Buy up gift cards over time, or charge to credit card that is added to your room key. The savings for these tickets outweight dining plan.

A family of five will be limited in where you can stay. Getting a room discount, discount Yes tickets, and paying OOP for food is going to be your best plan.

We got 8 day hoppers with waterparks & more in the end of March. As far as I know they are still available. You couldn't see them from the main selection pages but as you started ordering and filled out your information they became available as an option. 8 days was the maximum ticket length.
