Disney YES Program Open to non-groups

We just got back from Disney.
We bought 5 day parkhoppers with Water Park visits and 4 of my kids attended the class at Epcot, Ocean Discoveries.

*The tickets all say YOUTH on them and you do not have to do the finger scan.
*The PLUS part of the ticket was awesome! My kids loved Disney Quest or Typhoon Lagoon each day, as being in the park all day was TOO HOT!
*The Ocean Discoveries class was listed for kids 8-16. This is ridiculous! My 8 year old is the only one who it was appropriate for! The 10, 13, and 15 year olds were completely bored and I do not blame them. The topics, games, and themes were not at all geared to their ages. The way the class was taught it would really only appeal to 6-8 year olds. Just our opinion of course.

If you have any questions on YES tickets, or anything Disney I am happy to try to answer them for you.

You may be very sorry you offered :)

OK, for starters: how far in advance did you book the class?

Did you attend the class as well? Could you have?

Yikes! I am sorry you didn't enjoy the Ocean Discoveries class. This is the class we are taking in August .:sad2:

Has anyone had success in changing their tickets in advance of their trip? I am really thinking now that we should have gotten the wp&m option... We would be spending more money to upgrade and not decreasing the amount spent.

I see only classes listed at Disneyland for November. Does anyone know if they will add open enrollment classes for the week before or during Thanksgiving Week at WDW ?

Can anyone guess when they will have the Jan 2012 programs/dates up? Also, do you think they will have any classes for that first week of Jan? Or do you think they start later in the month? I really can't find any historical info for the month of January.

TIA! :)

We had a trip booked for November (just had to cancel). I looked into it, and there are NO classes for individuals being offered for the month of November (and I believe December, too). You can only book a YES class if your child is a member of a youth group. Parents on the DIS were forming their own groups, but from the many, many posts I've read on this thread, Disney is no longer allowing that. That is, your child must be a member of a legitimate youth group and that group must register together.

I'm sure others may have more details on this.

HTH

From what I've read, that's no longer true:

http://www.disneyyouth.com/individual-enrollment/

What the PP was saying was that if Individual Enrollment isn't offered, then groups are the only option. And, historically individual classes are not offered in March, April, May, November and December. YES has told a few people that classes will *not* be offered in November and December this year. Doesn't mean that they can't change their minds, but it does make it a bad idea to bank on classes being offered then.

OK, I just emailed my travel agent and asked her to drop our MYW package in favor of a room only. (with the AAA discount.) We'll keep the Disney trip insurance.

I'll book August YES tickets around March when they become available, and put $1500 on a Disney gift card to use for dining.

The two discounts-- AAA + YES turn out to be the equivalent of....

wait for it....

approximately a 50% PIN code of the price of our resort!!!!

Very minor correction, it's actually listed as 8-15. But I totally agree with you.

We did Ocean Discoveries on June 15th and DD7 seemed to enjoy the class, but it was pretty lame for DD10 and DD13. The activities seemed like the kind of games you would use to teach something to 1st or 2nd graders.

In contrast, DD13 and DS16 did the Production Arts and Science class at DHS on June 23rd and they both really enjoyed it.

Ack! We were not sure of our travel dates and I have had to delay booking our vacation until last minute and all of the sudden ALL of the classes for our dates are CLOSED (july 16 -30) How did that happen so fast? Does anyone think there is a chance of something opening up - or maybe they will add more classes?

I just got an email back from YES. They will let me change my tickets, I just have to call :)

I didn't book our YES class for Oct. 17 as soon as it opened, and when I went to do it (a few weeks ago, I believe), it was already closed. At that time, it was one of the first ones closed. I e-mailed the YES program and they told me that they didn't keep wait lists or open the classes up if anyone cancelled, etc. - FWIW.

Oh no! :scared1: DD turns 13 & we are doing this ON her b-day. Were you able to leave feedback after the class? Maybe they can change this b4 8/15.

Does anyone know when they will release the dates for January 2012? It would save us so much and of course that means one more trip!!:cool1: Thanks in advance!!
