Disney World Vacations And Cell Phone Use!!!

In my opinion, vacation is a time to escape reality and the troubles back at home. You cant do that when you are constantly on your phone texting and doing other things on your phone. Add to that it is also extremely rude of the people back at home to be texting you constantly while you are on vacation. If the people back at home want to know what you did in the parks that day. Tell them that they can wait until you are back in your room for the night to know all the details. If, and only if its an emergency then they need to call you on the phone and speak to you directly. Otherwise they need to leave you alone while you are on vacation.

Not everyone has the same view and goals of a vacation. If someone doesn't want to answer the cell phone, there is that "ignore" feature, and one doesn't have to peak at the texts.

this is the attitude that seem prevalent with people and their cell phones. They are way more important and everyone else should just accept it. WRONG. If that man were in front of me, Shoot, I can't repeat what I would have told him.

I think this attitude is the exception and not the rule. While I'll run into the occasional inconsiderate cell phone user, I wouldn't consider it a prevalent attitude. I don't think I've ever heard anyone tell someone in public to keep it down. Usually if they can't hear, they just move to a different spot and talk there. On the rides or at the movies I might see the occasional flash of a cell phone, but nothing so disruptive that it would ruin my experience. It doesn't bother me if people are texting or using their cell phone in line, or on the bus or monorail. I don't care if they "get the full experience" of waiting in line or not.

I also don't care about their experience in line or on the bus, but the light from the phone during texting is very distracting on a ride or attraction.

Well I take my family on vacations with me, and friends, please, I love my friends to death, but my vacation is family time. I actually have had friends call me, first I ask if anything is wrong, if not, my response, You know I love you, but I am on vacation, talk to you later, bye bye. Just my opinion, but I don't understand why some people can't live without talking to their friends while on vacation, to me this is disrespectful to my family, I give them my undivided attention.

So if anyone wants to text to friends and family to "keep in touch" with no real serious reason, go ahead, but I will still think it is silly. Just don't get in my way and don't let me hear your conversation and please don't do it on a ride. I spend the whole time on POTC with some idiot young lady talking to her friend, I could repeat the whole conversation, and it was about NOTHING.

That's great that you get to take your family with you. Not all of us can do that. And my friends are as important to me as family. But thanks for your permission to talk to them.

Well, I don't have troubles at home and like I said before... not everyone's definition of vacation is the same. My goal of a vacation is to do something fun that I don't normally get to do every day. Talking to my loved ones is one of the things I do daily that I enjoy and don't have any desire to escape from.

I always carry my cell phone at WDW. I don't use it during attractions or shows, but when I'm in line, sure I'll use it. As long as I'm keeping up with the moving line then it's not hurting anyone else.

During my honeymoon last October, I found out that my grandfather had been put into the hospital and was not doing well. Thankfully he made it until we came home (he passed away less than 36 hours after we arrived home), but I used my phone many times just to check in to see how he was doing and how my family was coping. I couldn't change or help what was happening, but I wanted to stay informed more for the sake of my dad (it was his father who was sick).

Sadly, my grandfather didn't decide to get sick while I was at WDW, but he did. If anybody around me cared that I was on the phone, I could really give two rips. It truly is none of their business.

You are welcome, just don't do it on a ride.

Oh and I bring my loved ones with me. Why would I leave them only to have to call everyday? But that is me.

Actually, my DH went with my DD on her 5th grade trip to Universal, they made it an over night trip. Somehow he didn't feel the need to call me or text me until he got back into their hotel room. he wanted to give her his undivided attention. I don't have any desire to escape my loved ones either, but I don't have to text and call from the park either. You don't love yours any more than I love mine. I stand by my opinion, and you and everyone else are free to have theirs. But I don't have to talk to my friends while on vacation, and now that I think about it, none of them call me either, while on vacation.

Hey hey...we have a whole thread for Disney sins. You can confess to your cell phone use there and I will make sure you are forgiven!

Shameless plug for a thread. :rotfl2::rotfl2:

I could care less about who is using what when. Texting? Go ahead. Need to make a call, go ahead. Apparently stopping and texting is a bigger deal than the those that stop in the middle of a walkway to decide where to go next, check a map, or - gasp - take a picture of that darn Cinderella castle.

And to the poster that said to just go to Guest Services to inquire about things such as dining reservations, attraction times, etc. instead of using a phone app? One word..why? Why wouldn't you just click and find out yourself rather than walk all the way to GS to stand in a long line that sometimes doesn't seem to move? Why waste you park time doing that? It must be the only way because it's the way it used to be done. Times have changed. Texting, phone apps, etc.and it's many conveniences are here to stay. Sometimes the kids are the ones that have embraced these with less fuss than us older folks. I'm sure the kids will be complaining about kids 40 years from now with whatever is the concept at that time. Click, talk, and text away. I just don't pay enough attention to other people and what they're doing. It's just not my business. I'm really in my own little world when at WDW.

I'm sorry but I really disagree with this. I honestly can say that I've never seen that kind of behavior from someone on a phone. I'd say that that story was an extreme exception...not a norm.

I was just at Disney for the last 10 days of August, and I had to be in contact with several people while I was on vacation. I have my own small business, and something required immediate attention. I hate to have to interrupt my vacation for it, but my living allows me to live a comfortable lifestyle... which includes going to Disney for 10 days. To those it upsets... mind your business. ;)

this one REALLY cracks me up! Funny, I am in Disney at least 5 times a year with up to a month at anytime! I was also in Disney this past week for 10 days. I must have a HUGE comfortable lifestyle and I do not even have to do business on a cell phone!! lol.......really?

and to me, the people on this thread with that "I can talk and text " where I want attitude are the same people that text and talk while driving ...and who always run the red lights while talking. And who twice almost killed ME while doing so! So NO sympathy here! I do Not want to see ya texting in front of me and stopping short!! And no one cares about your business on the phone, I know I do not! You are just not that important!! hate to break it to ya!!

Last visit I was nearly flatted tho the wall leaving Magic Kingdom. An ECV user was not paying attention, looking back, yelling at his family and drove his EVC right into the wall, I just could jump aside.
I think that is very dangerous and rude behavior so according to you the best thing to do is ban the EVC's from the parks?

And I'm sorry you got almost killed but the cell phones didn't try kill you it were the drivers and I can see no analogy between this and people walking on foot in a park and using a phone.

Never heard of a walking cell phone user killed another pedestrian by walking over the "victim".

And last but not least this. Yesterday I was watching a documentation about the victims from 9/11 that left a last message for there beloved ones on their cell phone.
I saw many many people that cherished that cell phone call as the last contact and string with their husband, father or child. Thank God for cell phones and live and let live.

are you seriously trying to compare the two? haa haa. See if you were not on your cell phones then we would have been aware of what is going on around you!! Also when and what state is trying to ban EVC use? None...And why is it that from State to state they are trying to ban the use of texting and cell phone use while driving? has a little something to do with the fact that people just cannot do more then two things at once and they are distracted!! And they KILL people, and it is why I almost was killed! So do not even try to justify the EVC indecent what so ever..OMG, wow....
The issue is ...in the stores, walking texting...I so wish when I had to use my evc this week that I Did hit someone that decided to stop short to answer a text!!! But NO instead I had to do some fancy friggin driving!! Thank god I know how to drive trucks and motorcycles and have total control!!! But all you texters in Disney last week.....just completely RUDE!!!!!!

I have never seen someone so bitter and angry about a cell phone!

Do you tap cell phone users on the shoulder in the parks and give them your anti-cell phone manifesto as well?

Bottom line is, you are investing way to much energy into this anger you certainly have. Why do you care so dearly about what other people do on vacation?

denial...I would love to see you all go without for a day!! it would be to funny!...I long for the day they are banned in public!

STOP! do NOT even try to justify you all texting use!! It is just so not going to cut it with me and with people being killed daily because of your needs or your "rights" to use your phones!!! Then why are they banning the use while driving? so just do NOT there....ain't gonna cut it....you are all in Denial!! look up the word!

You are comparing apples to oranges here. There is a big difference between talking or texting while walking around a theme park and talking or texting while driving.

You are painting all cell phone users with the same brush. That's like if I said "All guys named Steve are terrible people" which we know would not be true.

Actually, the father of the family was quite gracious and asked his children to be courteous to the cell phone guy and allow him to complete his call. The guy with the cell phone didn't even have the decency to say thank you or acknowledge any kind of appreciation.
I did admire the father, who was a good sized man, for not escalating anything or causing a scene in front of his children, but thought the cell phone guy was a real jerk for interferring with the excitement of children at WDW because he and his business were more important.

When my large group splits up, we will use texting to locate each other later on.

Once more, I don't give a flying fig what others think. End of story. WAY too much anger and energy being devoted to the habits of others here.

It doesn't sound you have much fun visiting WDW. You spend wayyyyyyyyyy to much time to look, find and criticize complete strangers. In your own words people can not do more than one thing once they are distracted and I would use my park time to enjoy myself and not play 007 to find imaginary enemies.
