Disney Wonder to be homeported in Los Angeles

While looking into this I noticed 1) that the Magic & Wonder are scheduled to be in St. Maarten on the same day on the LAST cruise of the released schedule... Sunday, January 02, 2011. Wouldn't it be cool if "little" sister showed up too? What a DREAM!!

I also noted that IF the Wonder departed from PC on the last day of the current schedule, that the Magic would be at CC the next day and that it is about 17 days to the next Sunday in LA... Nassau and then CC? Just noticing things that don't really make a difference ... yet.

Andrew, I was following along with the crazy math and everything but your last post really confused me. Are you saying that the Wonder is going to do a repo to go to LA and then do another repo after some Mexican cruises to come back?

possibly repo to Seattle!! for Alaska, then come back to LA.

Its an option, it isn't saying at LA all year round, just a bit over 50% of the year, so its not just Mexican Rivera 7 night cruises.

Most cruise bring their ships back to the Caribbean in the winter, and 10/11 night Southern Caribbean cruises are popular.

I am saying

  • Panama repo 15 nights
  • Mexican Cruises 7 nights
  • Repo (This is not a Panama repo) 6/7 nights
  • Other cruises
  • Repo back (This is not a Panama repo) 7 nights
  • Mexican cruises 7 nights
  • Panama repo 15 nights back to PC.

Ooohhh, I'd love to see more Southern Carib cruises!!! :cloud9: I just don't want to go on them during the holidays.

OK, now I get it. So you're imagining that there will be times where PC is port for all three Disney ships? At least until Fantasy shows up and they take the Magic someplace else?

LOL! Sorry! But, Sort of! I think it is more like Disney EXPECTS it to be there BEFORE that date. And, the dates and number of weeks perfectly matching a winter schedule for 2012 *MIGHT* suggest Alaska cruises in the plans for summer months...

Be glad I didn't post the spreadsheet I was using with my calculations! :rotfl2:

So Alaska *Might* be back in the mix.;) I think I like how your mind works!!

I 100% agree with you. Still, I think since DCL is a creature of habit it may unfold like this. The repo would leave PC on May 8, that is a Sunday so the last 3 night would leave Thursday the 5th. Then 14 nights to L.A. Now I do not think they will pull the ship from Los Angeles since it is the new home port so fast. This is not like the two test runs of 05 and 08. This is the Wonders new home. I think she just may stay for a while. Also if Dream can be delivered in Feb. of 2011 I think you may see some special Southern cruises on the Wonder so the crew can get used to a longer cruise and they can test out a few new menus and some new shows. This is just what I think. I am usally wrong.

It looks to me like Disney does intend to do 7 day cruises out of San Pedro (SORRY Nancy!). The Port of LA contract only gives Disney preferential right to the berth on Sundays. If they were planning to start with 3 & 4 day trips, I would think they would have added a preference for the middle of the week as well. Just further confirmation to what we have been hearing.

Guess you'll get fat instead of broke! :teeth: Are you by any chance an accountant, because your "simple math" makes my head spin!

Did you notice the last couple of cruises on the existing schedule? Disney Wonder does a couple of 7 night cruises...

Nope. Not an account. Just a software janitor, err engineer. I didn't really show the math and maybe that's why it is confusing. The confusing part to me is counting everybody twice! I know I've eaten too much and can sink an old small world boat, but don't count me twice! lol

That could be only due to the fact the Magic is on one ten day and one eleven day cruise. Well only DCL knows fir sure. Still I am willing to bet that the Wonder may start doing seven nights for a month or two when the Dream comes over.

One thing that Seattle has going for Alaska is the improvements they have just made to their Port. Victoria also announced at the beginning of the week, that our Port is getting some upgrades. Seattle is also cheaper to fly into for leaving on the trip than Vancouver. Port of Vancouver has been getting some bad publicity lately with handling embarkation/disembarkation crowds.

One thing to take into consideration about the Canal is a comment that Captain Puckett mentioned while on the last REPO. The costs for the transit are getting cost prohibited and cruise line traffic will likely decrease in the near future.

On that note.. Andrew... I recall hearing that the EB transit cost more than the WB transit for Canal fees. However, I haven't been able to find any support for this. All things I've found have stated that the WB Repo was the most expensive. Do you remember hearing this?

in may 08 DCL set the record for paying the most for the panama canal.
forgot the exact cost but it was over 300,000 dollars. im thinking 326 but not positive. havent heard what the cost was on the aug repo.

The prices did increase and DCL tried to pass them on some $250k but then withdrew that. I know that the prices quoted in various places were inflated and a correction was posted later at a lower level.

The EB might be more expensive due to the time of year.

Please note when I quoted my speculation above there are two types of repo a Panama one and another one. They are not all Panama.

Seattle has several cruise terminals. A brand new one (Pier 91) is opening this spring.

I hadn't read about embarkation/disembarkation problems in Vancouver - other than the shortage of taxis for those disembarking. We had no problem boarding our ship in Vancouver on two occasions. Several cruise lines are moving their ships from Vancouver to Seattle in 2010, but I think that has more to do with economics than any problem with Canada Place or Ballantyne Pier in Vancouver.

K. I'm missing something then. According to DCL's website, the Wonder leaves on a 7 day on Thursday, Dec 30th, 2010. DCL shows the same 7 day itinerary that I'm used to seeing for an eastern. PC/Sea/Sea/St. Maarten/St. Thomas/Sea/CC/PC

Thursday, December 30, 2010 Port Canaveral
Friday, December 31, 2010 At Sea
Saturday, January 01, 2011 At Sea
Sunday, January 02, 2011 St. Maarten
Monday, January 03, 2011 St. Thomas/St. John
Tuesday, January 04, 2011 At Sea
Wednesday, January 05, 2011 Castaway Cay
Thursday, January 06, 2011 Port Canaveral

DCL shows the Magic doing a 10 day southern starting on Wednesday, Dec 29th.

Wednesday, December 29, 2010 Port Canaveral
Thursday, December 30, 2010 Nassau
Friday, December 31, 2010 At Sea
Saturday, January 01, 2011 At Sea
Sunday, January 02, 2011 St. Maarten
Monday, January 03, 2011 Antigua
Tuesday, January 04, 2011 Tortola
Wednesday, January 05, 2011 St. Thomas/St. John
Thursday, January 06, 2011 At Sea
Friday, January 07, 2011 Castaway Cay
Saturday, January 08, 2011 Port Canaveral

looks to me like Sunday, January 02, 2011 in St. Maarten is on both lists... Maybe the Wonder cruise is really a Tortola or St. Croix eastern? Just not according to any documentation I can find...:confused3

I can't remember exactly when, but there was issues last summer. We'll find out for ourselves in August when we sail on RCL to Alaska. Luckily we have family in Vancouver, so don't have to worry about making flights and the ferries run every hour at that time of year.

Do you think Disney could go farther south from LA into Central or South America?
