Disney Wonder to be homeported in Los Angeles

I have not read through the whole thing , but perhaps DCL will go to Hawaii from the west coast from time to time.

I know Disney is developing large hotel resort property out there, perhaps with a view creating a new land/sea . cruise out to Hawaii stay at the new resort and fly back with Hawaiin Airlines.....

Ko Olina I think

I for one would jump on a Disney southern Carb. cruise in a heart beat, old or new ship just give me the southern carb.:cool1::cool1::cool1::cool1:

Rob

I will join you as long as it does not interfear with bring the Wonder to it's new home.

Looks like my gut feeling that I voiced a couple of month ago that the first of the new ships would do the short cruises has been proven right even though I took a bit of flag over that at the time.

I would not have called the Wonder going to the West Coast. I was certain that it was the Magic that was going. DH is thrilled. We have a little bit of friendly competition in our home. We both love both the ships, but I have a slight preference for the Magic and he for the Wonder. As our next three cruises are on the Magic, I think by 2011 he has deserved a cruise on the Wonder.

I am hoping that the Panama canal cruise will be mid to late February. A Panama canal cruise is the next one on our wish list. Being able to do it on the Wonder will make it better still and if it happened to fall over our anniversary in February that would be better still.

Its 7 night cruises. As 2008, maybe Saturdays, but same ports, if it ant broke don't fix it, as others say 3/4 night cruises will ruin the ship, and the first night in/out of LA has been awful in my experience.

That doesn't make sense and cannot IMO, be a valid reason. How can 3/4 night cruise ruin the ship. The Wonder has been doing 3/4 night cruises for almost 10 years and its not ruined. I've sailed it twice and it looks basically the same as the Magic. Also if the whole "ruining/ wear and tear" on the ship was a valid reason for not doing 3/4 night cruises, why would DCL be putting their brand, new state of the art Dream on 3/4 night itineraries.

Anyway, you are probably spot on about 7 night Mexican Riviera cruises. :) But, IMO, pure speculation on my part ( no inside info or super secret PMs ;)), I can't see DCL passing up the highly profitable 7 night Land/Sea combo with Disneyland. That combination with WDW has been successful for over 10 years. To quote you: "If it ain't broke, don't fix it"!

kaseyC, I think you are absolutely correct about pairing the Wonder with 3/4 days at Disneyland. It's an opportunity too big not to take advantage of. I'm thrilled there will be another ship within driving distance - first the Mariner from Royal Caribbean, now the Wonder. Keep 'em coming. :yay::yay:

Never say never ;) There was a LOT of naysaying about Disney ever going overseas all over the sites and blogs in 2005 -- and lo and behold, they surprised everyone.

I've read lots of speculation in some of the newspapers last year when Disney announced they were building the resort in Hawaii about tying it in with one of their cruise ships. That would be a great option for DVC members too.

Unlike the Florida port where they have a lot more options for itineraries and ports, there won't be that many options on the West coast without maybe tossing it up and throwing in a long distance cruise to maybe Hawaii. How many time can they do the Riviera in a year without people burning out on the itinerary? And there'd be no Castaway Cay type option (which always make repeat cruises a plus).

So we can always hope for Hawaii or Alaska. :thumbsup2 Disney never ceases to amaze!

As for the 3/4 night debate with Dreams -- I personally think it would be terribly disappointing to make the new ship such a short cruise. It will give us so little time to explore the new ship!

Royal Caribbean had one of their oldest ships (Monarch of the Seas) doing 3 and 4-night cruises out of Los Angeles for a number of years, and those cruises were very popular. If I were a betting woman, I'd wager that DCL will start with the 3/4 night cruises out of LA, or possibly alternating 7-night cruises with the 3/4 night. But I DON'T think they will just do 7-night Mexican Riviera cruises - at least not when they first arrive in CA.

I for one am very excited about DCL going to California! We have planned on a 2011 Disney Cruise, and out of LA would be great for us as we are in Oregon! A DL / DCL land/sea package may be in the works for 2011 after our 2010 WDW trip! :cloud9::yay::woohoo::cheer2:

Personally I don't like a 3 or 4 night option for DCL in CA. I don't believe there are many places for a cruise ship to visit in 3 or 4 nights from LA. I am not enthused about short cruises from LA. It would have to be a 7 nighter for me!

Also, do you think DCL will put the Wonder in Dry Dock before sending her over to LA?

The 3/4 night cruises out of FL go to Nassau and Castaway Cay - not exactly exciting places. RCI went to San Diego, Catalina Island, and Ensenada on their 4-night cruises, and just to Ensenada on the 3-night. I like that 4-night itinerary, and it appeals to me more than going to the Bahamas...again.

Nancy, don't you think they have enough going on without having to dream up an itinerary? Why not just start with a known quantity (7 day classic Mexican Riviera) where you already have relationships with ports and excursion operators? Then add the 3/4 day cruises later?

Hey, and you can drive out to Astoria and wave as she sails to Vancouver! well, if she goes to Alaska, or does a Pacific coastal.

There are plenty of places to visit. You have Catalina, San Diego, and Ensenada. That should be more than enough. :rotfl2: Of course, I am not much more excited by the 7/8 nighter options! But, staying on the ship is not such a bad option!

sorry if this has been mention havent read all 200 plus posts, but there was a rumor about dcl going to hong kong a year or two ago. the rumor was even mention on disney podcast or whatever its called i think they even started it. what is people thoughts about this? andrew?

Wanna bet another Dole Whip? ;) If DCL can arrange new cruises to northern European ports, they can certainly work out the details to send a ship to San Diego, Catalina Island, and Ensenada. After all - they are headquartered in SoCal!

:rotfl2: I was going to say that, but I wasn't sure you had seen it. I tried to get Host Mick to bet one over on the dark side, too. I'm gonna go broke or get fat! I don't have ANY confidence in this one, but you are on! It just makes more sense to me to start with a known quantity. I'm certainly NOT saying they won't do 3/4 or even 5 day cruises in the first couple of years. Plus, they need to do all that work for Alaska & Hawaii ports ;) :lmao: :thumbsup2

Somebody mentioned that 2 days at DL/DCA would be enough for a land/sea. While I disagree with 2 days being enough, that idea is prevalent and a 2/5 land/sea package *MIGHT* do well. Can we at least make it to Cabo on a 5 day? I obviously haven't investigated that at all. But, I thought the idea was interesting.

Hi, It was in a Dispodcast, I do not think they would like to be reminded of it as they said Alaska 2009 and Far east 2010. You remember it correctly.

I was posting it was Caribbean and inc Tortola,(09) and Europe Baltic.(2010)

But, whilst that was wrong on dates, the information was based on facts, good info but wrong years, DCL was trying for Alaska and I bet we will see far east cruises, to the Disney parks in the future. Its a question of time.

Also I do not see anyone speculating on cruises for 10/11 nights to Acapulco, and only one post on a North-wards Pacific coast trip from LA.

Host Mick at CC? I inadvertently unsubscribed to the DCL forum over there, and subsequently decided I don't need yet another board at CC to watch!

You'll only get broke and/or fat if you lose! Wait a minute - that's what I'm counting on! :lmao: I'll be at WDW in late October...think DCL will have announced anything by then? (I'll be there this month and in June, too - but I doubt we'll know more about the Wonder's itineraries.)

Well, that's a good question. Can they really announce the Wonder's schedule on the West Coast before they know when the Wonder will get to the West Coast, and can they know that without knowing when the Dream is going to arrive in Port Canaveral? How much lead time do they need on the arrival time for that boat? So far as anyone can tell, it could be anytime roughly in the first quarter of 2011, no?

I purposely did not say Host Mick at CC because we already did the castaway cay CC vs. cruise critic CC thing! :rotfl2: The DS (Dark Side) thing comes from ShoreGuy & Cruise Travel Talk...

Do I think DCL will announce by October? Not sure. But, I don't think so. Do I think WE will know something? Only if they announce or I'm wrong ;) People seem to post stuff on the web that they aren't supposed to. We just have to find it. :rolleyes1
