Disney Wonder Dry Dock Watch - 11/10 Wonder departs on first cruise out of Galveston

I thought they were replacing beds during this dry dock to the same ones as on the Dream class ships, which means you can't split bed into 2 twins and they are higher than original beds

I thought the beds were switched out a couple of years ago when it didn't get this huge dry dock as anticipated.

Beds, couch, curtains, carpet were new when we were onboard for Alaska 2015
DCL did a "floating dry dock" with the rooms just prior to her Panama Canal cruise in 2015. They closed blocks of rooms onboard and upgraded them like they would have gotten during a dry dock. The beds were switched to the full queen at that time.

We were just on the Wonder in Alaska, and the beds were a full queen, but they weren't high enough for our luggage, at least not one of the two. The other barely fit, after I lifted the bed so the luggage would fit past the lip. The other not at all. I had read that was one of the changes to the Magic, higher beds. I guess not that much higher? Fantasy and Dream beds were plenty high for both.

As far as I know, the "new" beds are the same height. Our bed on our last Wonder cruise was the same bed we had on our Fantasy cruise. Don't know why your bags wouldn't fit.

Any chance the beds differ by room type? We had the bigger family stateroom with verandah on dream/fantasy, and the smaller verandah room on the wonder. Besides the height, the beds were totally fine, very comfy.

Don't know. But I wouldn't think they have would one type of bed for one category and a different type of bed for another. Not very cost efficient. Pretty sure that all the queen beds (on all the ships) would be from the same supplier.

We had a Deluxe Family Oceanview with verandah on the Fantasy. And an Oceanview on the Wonder. Same bed.

Now, maybe yours had short legs on it or something. Could be a manufacturing issue.

Just wanted to echo we just disembarked the Wonder yesterday and also had to lift the bed slightly in order for the luggage to go underneath. We had sailed the Wonder right near when they were previously switching out the beds but can't remember if we had the "new ones" at that time or not. The luggage definitely did not just glide under like it does on the Dream so not sure if that's on purpose or we also had a "slightly lower" bed, not sure. I can say, I was advised they are replacing the beds again with the upcoming dry dock - or at least a CM advised me of this.

Sorry - jet lag and exhaustion from returning home at 2am this morning has me not reading all the previous posts but thought I'd share what I could from the Wonder as I just disembarked yesterday morning. There were already contractors onboard our sailing and I understand several have been on board previously doing what they can. I did see several of them, but no clue what they were working on and I didn't ask. I know they want to ensure they don't have the issues with the delay, like they did with the Magic. I was advised most will be removed in Port Canaveral (the inside stuff I take it) so that she sails to Spain fairly empty - again, just sharing what I heard. Some crew will be onboard, like always, others given the chance to go home depending on their contracts and positions. Tiana's will no longer have a buffet option like Parrot Cay currently does. The one rumor I heard was from a cabin steward (not ours) and it's the one I believe the least, but just sharing. She said she was advised they were installing the magic portholes (like Dream/Fantasy) but when she explained it to me, I swear she said, "like the Magic" and then I just smiled and knew of course the Magic did *not* get this so while it could still be true, I think it's unlikely so we shall see.

Question: When was the Magic dry docked? We sail on her next year, but haven't been onboard since 2009 (OMG).

The Magic had her major overhaul/reimagining in 2013 where her new features were installed. Her most recent dry dock was in 2015 for normal maintenance.

I'm glad it just wasn't me going crazy with the difference in the beds. :)

Regarding the staff, we talked to our waiter about this, and he said those who will be off contract during the dry dock were all really happy, but those under contract were all dreading it. Basically they still have to be on the ship and help out with some things, but obviously no passengers = no tips, and it sounded like they didn't really have too much to do during that time either.

Interesting about the Wonder beds! We still had the old staterooms on the 2014 WBPC cruise, my last time on the Wonder. I remember that the room renovations were happening during early 2015, so the next WBPC had already the new rooms. Dream, Fantasy and refurbed Magic all got their furniture installed in Europe (either Meyer Werft or Cadiz dry dock), I am wondering if for the Wonder they went with a different manufacturer and something in the specifications went wrong resulting in beds that are one or two inches lower. It does not need much for the bed to not fit. I know that the Dream cabin furniture was built by a German furniture manufacturer (Hülsta, the press release about this is only in German: http://www.meyerwerft.de/de/meyerwerft_de/medien/presseticker/pressemitteilung_detail_9920.jsp), so they could easily built the same type of furniture for the Magic and have it shipped to Cadiz. But having it shipped all the way to Miami where the Wonder was stationed when they refurbed the ship might have been a bit too far...

However, I would be surprised if they would really rip out rooms/furniture that is only 1.5 years old! Can't see that happening!

But it does seem that the Dream is kind of getting a "rolling dry dock" with regard to staterooms, there were so many people posting about their staterooms being moved due to refurbs going on. Those reports were similar to what happened before the Wonder room refurb. I don't expect there to be a lot of change to the rooms, but it will be interesting if there are going to be any reports as to what they did to the Dream rooms...

What was interesting (and I didn't add this above), a CM also told me they were changing the furniture because they had a lot of complaints about the "creaking". I sort of giggled at this as I'm of the opinion, ships move and things creak at times but the indication was they would replace the furniture. Again, not sure the CM was confused or forgot about them doing this previously but just reporting it back, lol :)

When on the Wonder last September we had breakfast each morning at Parrot Cay. If Tiana's will not be a buffet then I wonder if another restaurant (besides Cabana's) will offer breakfast or will it just be Tritons and Cabana's?

We look forward to parrot cay breakfast buffet. Will be disappointed if they stop doing this in Tiana's

I will be upset if they don't offer the boarding lunch here. I don't like hunting for a table while juggling a buffet tray and all my carry on luggage!

If I'm not mistaken (too much info floating around), I believe they are adding a stage in the new Tiana's replacing where the buffet used to be. Anyone else read/hear this? Again, sorry I haven't read the previous posts all the way.

From the picture of Tiana's posted on the Disney Parks Blog announcement it looked to me like the stage would be at the back of the restaurant on the flat wall, rather than replacing the buffet on the curved front wall. It seems unlikely they eliminate or move the second buffet.

I realize that the cm's can't be completely trusted with this information, but our server on the 8/1 Alaska cruise told us that part of the spa area would be converted into the concierge lounge. I thought this made more sense than some of the other possibilities of where it would go that have been posted.
He seemed to know a lot and will be one of the workers staying onboard doing the work. He also said that there will be no Aquadunk, just the twist and spout slide, and that all of the carpets will be replaced.
