I have had Chase unexpectedly deny a charge when I was in New York (we live in PA). Sure it is for our protection, but it is a real pain when you are in a busy store with a long line and the only credit card you have on you is that one. I had to call my DH who was out by the car to come in with a different card.
They've denied us as well when we were out of state.
Super inconvenient in the middle of a store, but I'd rather be inconvenienced every now and again then have no notification when it's legitimate. I've gotten an email or phone call within an hour of a false charge going through and it was resolved immediately. I prefer them being overly cautious.
We can easily call the card before going out of state and avoid the inconvenience if it's that big of a deal.
