Disney Stress

Amyone else really stressed out by all the changes right now? Our first week of May trip planning has been so difficult this year.

1. BTMRR on again / off again,
2. Don't know if Star Wars fireworks will be new / old / none
3. Star Wars show will be open but there are no times yet,
4. ROL announced but no dining plan or FP info yet,
5. I thought I had my FP plan in place but it included plans to get 2nd tiers we love as 4th FPs but with MDE changes, Barnstormer will be impossible to get since I don't have all FPs done by 1:00 each day.
6. I thought Epcot Norway changes were off my worry list when they were moved to "summer" but now they're in MDE which I'd be thrilled for the ride, but anguished over the M&G since I have an FP for MK.

Lots of good things in that mix, no doubt, but I wish they weren't happening the way they are with the Disney Brand Vague Announcements and Late Breaking Details. I know we'll go and have fun but it's really stressing me out. I feel like my whole life right now is watching and waiting for Disney announcements. It's feeling a lot like work and my "work" life balance is way out of whack right now. :sad1:

Where are you seeing the Frozen stuff show up? I was just looking on MDE and didn't see it. We are going in June and that will change our plans.

Nope! Refuse to stress out about our vacations - would miss the point of going IMO. I make a few dining ressies, FP+'s, then relax and wing it!

Just got back, followed that advice, and enjoyed our trip, but, will say was a little frustrated by all the construction and closures everywhere. We have no plans to return for a few years when things hopefully will be completed.

There is a placeholder page for it on the website but just says "coming soon". However news from a CM today suggested 5/27 as an opening date.

OP, I do understand. I am the planner. I have three boys with wildly different "wants", and I stress over how to make and keep them all happy. I stress over where we are eating, if the picky one will like this place or the other picky one who is picky about other stuff will eat at that place...lol. I stress over how early is too early to make them get up and out when I know we are late night people. I stress over keeping the plan simple, allowing the flower smelling, and swimming, and travel time back and forth, and still managing to see and do everything on their "wants" list.

But, here's what I learned. I thrive on the stress. I enjoy it. And once I'm there, I don't even think about it. Knowing I have some sort of plan (I know where we are going that day..lol), keeps my anxiety away. If I were to just show up with no plan in place, I don't think I'd be able to enjoy it as much because I'd be too worried about what to do next, and how to keep the kids happy.

With so many things up in the air, it makes it hard to get that bare bones plan down. But, like I said, it could all fall apart when we are there, and I'm OK with that. Didn't plan on getting stuck on 7DMT for 2 hours last time we were there, but we made the best of it and I have 4 CMs that I adore because of it.

Anyway, I think I lost what I was trying to say. I stress before we get there and don't stress once we are there, no matter what happens. I try to plan the best vacation for everyone and deal with any fallout later. It's made my last three trips much more relaxing. Which has made me enjoy them and live in them better once we are there.

We aren't stressing yet. Our trip isn't until October, but all the changes are frustrating but sort of exciting. We really didn't want BTMRR to be closed for us! Schedule isn't out yet for October so we are just doing some preliminary planning. Mostly my husband doing the planning, but there has been a lot of back and forth already. He keeps trying to get me to agree to this or that. But we still have months to go! It's only our 2nd trip and we aren't people that can go very often so we try our best to plan the things we want. Reading the boards and all the back and forth, this is closed, this rumor on this ADR, reviews of this restaurant, or which fast pass to do when...it's crazy but fun too. We'll roll with it.:yo-yo::crazy:

First of all, thank you all for taking the time to respond. It really helps to know that others feel that way too and also to read the perspectives of people who don't. It's fascinating really how people can look at the same thing so differently. But if the rule was no vacation if planning it caused me stress, I would not be able to go on vacation. Any vacation with a plane ticket causes me some level of stress. As pp have said, it's how I'm built. I don't enjoy planning. But I do enjoy being on vacation and don't have problems going with the flow while there. Last trip we had a child get sick enough that she had to stay in bed for a day and a half, a ride we had an FP for go down during our window, a missed FP, lots of rain and various other things go "wrong", none of which ruined the vacation for me. It's just the getting there that I find stressful. I like to gather info, make an informed decision and move on. Having decisions made and over with is what makes me happy and relaxed. Right now I can't get through step one because of lack of info or everything is set with decisions made and then I have to revisit because things are changing. A little of that is fine but there has been a lot of it this trip.

Also, sorry for the confusion on the Frozen ride. I was reading this thread. http://www.disboards.com/threads/fr...d-by-disneys-mde.3488864/page-2#post-55281576

There was speculation that it showing up in MDE meant sooner rather than later, but now it looks like the speculation is for late May.

Let me help - I'll go on your trip for you and you can stay home and relax! :)

:rotfl2:I'll pass. But if you want to do all my ressies and FPs and TPs you're hired. You know, I think there could be a market for Disney Planners...

There is definitely a ton of change happening now and imminently and it can definitely cause some anxiety with the uber planners (like many on this board). I'm a super planner too, but I wouldn't say it stresses me, I actually find it all kind of exciting. It helps that I feel I know enough about WDW that I can wing it when a sudden change throws a wrench in my plans - to me that is the reason why I love to plan and research so much, so I can adapt more easily.

Yes! I'm definitely like that in wanting to research things enough to know in my head what the Plan Bs are. Not that I have them perfectly spelled out, but just generally (if ride is down during FP window, Disney will offer FP good all day, go on another ride, come back later). Knowing how things work and that I can make good game day calls reduces my stress during vacation.

Our next trip is in mid-April. We won't be returning for at least 18 months, maybe longer. There's some bad stuff (terminal cancer among them) coming down the line in our family and some difficult days ahead of us all.

I'm very sorry to hear that, Magpie.

Dis stress??????????????? Allow me to use it in a sentence: I'm a guy with a beard, I'd look strange in dis stress. :duck:(and I wouldn't have shoes to go with it.):sunny:

Well it depends on the venue. I know places where a bearded guy in a dress is quite the norm :D
