Disney Stress

So enlighten me. Is it that you really enjoy planning or don't mind change or love Disney so much that it's all fun, or are just planning on winging it? I'm curious.

I just don't understand why a person would let a vacation - and specifically a Disney vacation - cause them stress. Life is stressful enough! The point of a vacation is to escape stress.

Relax! It's Disney. It's going to be awesome no matter what. And.... Just to add: stress kills. No joke. It's not worth it.

Does anyone really think there is any way that Ferris, Cameron and Sloan could drive into Chicago and back with stops at the Sears Tower, the art museum, a fancy restaurant, the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, a Cubs game, a German parade, and even a stop off for a dip in the pool and hot tub in a single 7-hour school day? (not even a full day since they had to pick up Sloan after classes had already started) No -- I don't care how fast that 1961 Ferrari 250 GT California Spyder was.

They had until 6. Ferris mentioned that repeatedly.

I'll add a no here too. It's Disney..that's my attitude...sure I have a rough plan..1 ADR ( we try 1 new TS each trip),I plan days according to EMH- we do rope drop, and have non hopper tickets. We swim every midday, nap and hit as many attractions we can and get FPs for things we have never tried or are must do. Other than that we enjoy the magic of being in our favorite place...less stress and lots of fun.

No I don't stress about it because you never know how the day will actually plan out. You can set up the perfect touring plan and score perfect times for your FP+ then have the whole day "ruined" when a ride goes down for the day or a day-long deluge of rain and thunderstorms kill your chances of going on (insert outdoor ride of choice). Stressing about things you can't control is counter-productive. We make a list of things we would like to go on. If it's a ride that is that important for us, we go in standby. I know you read here about people refusing to be in lines over XX minutes but it doesn't really bother me (sans having our littles with us). I have great memories of making up games and chatting with my (huge) family while waiting for rides.

Amyone else really stressed out by all the changes right now? Our first week of May trip planning has been so difficult this year.

1. BTMRR on again / off again,
2. Don't know if Star Wars fireworks will be new / old / none
3. Star Wars show will be open but there are no times yet,
4. ROL announced but no dining plan or FP info yet,
5. I thought I had my FP plan in place but it included plans to get 2nd tiers we love as 4th FPs but with MDE changes, Barnstormer will be impossible to get since I don't have all FPs done by 1:00 each day.
6. I thought Epcot Norway changes were off my worry list when they were moved to "summer" but now they're in MDE which I'd be thrilled for the ride, but anguished over the M&G since I have an FP for MK.

Lots of good things in that mix, no doubt, but I wish they weren't happening the way they are with the Disney Brand Vague Announcements and Late Breaking Details. I know we'll go and have fun but it's really stressing me out. I feel like my whole life right now is watching and waiting for Disney announcements. It's feeling a lot like work and my "work" life balance is way out of whack right now. :sad1:

Nope, I've got all of our FP's and ADR's set. We only have 4 days in the parks this year because we are also doing a Disney cruise, so our time management in the parks is tight. We will be able to see Symphony in the Stars which I am happy about, but our girls would rather swim than go see RoL, and there's no room for the Frozen FP if it rolls out. We go every year, our attitude is what we miss this year, we will see next year. :goodvibes

Good morning can someone please explain the ops comment about the Norway ride. Is there a possibility that the new ride will be open in early May? This is the first time I've seen anything related to that. We will be at wdw on May 10 and would be very excited if this were true. Thanks much for any info you may have

There is definitely a ton of change happening now and imminently and it can definitely cause some anxiety with the uber planners (like many on this board). I'm a super planner too, but I wouldn't say it stresses me, I actually find it all kind of exciting. It helps that I feel I know enough about WDW that I can wing it when a sudden change throws a wrench in my plans - to me that is the reason why I love to plan and research so much, so I can adapt more easily.

But for the OP, I definitely understand where you are coming from, especially with Spring trips this year - you will undoubtedly be making a few last minute changes. Have fun though!

I know that feel, bro. Is 4 hours enough for a water park? Is this ADR gonna be worth it? This review says it's good, but this one says it's bad. Will I have enough time to make my FP? What if it rains? What if I break my leg and have to cancel my trip? What if I cut myself and don't realize it and a shark in the Shark Reef tries to eat me? Do I really need to do Disney again? Will this hotel be ok?

It's a wonder i have any hair left.

Did I mention I'm only doing one day at Disney this trip?

I think the original predicted date it was supposed to be open was around May 1st. I just heard this morning on another post (rumor) that it may be around May 27.

It's easy to get caught up in the notion that you have to plan everything when you read these boards. Planning certainly helps, but it's only useful to a point. I like to plan, but for me it's about understanding options. It's not about doing everything on our wish list and having it perfectly timed. Disney World is huge, and nobody can do it all in one trip.

Besides, if you could do it all, if you simply ran out of things you think you'd like to do, well... that would be pretty darned boring and depressing. Planning is not going to guarantee you get to do everything you want this trip. It will help you mitigate some of the things that can be challenging. I think if you accept that there is plenty to do to have fun, consider some possibilities that you know about, and leave yourself open to some you don't, you will feel better about the trip now and when you go.

If I had that Ferrari, I know my life would be a lot less stressful:D I would have just spent all day driving it. Who cares about that other garbage:confused3 Of course, if I had that car, I probably would be rich enough to not worry about much. It's not the most expensive Ferrari out there, but it is definitely way up on the list. Maybe I could sell off my possessions, our cars, our house, our son... Uh, I mean our electronics. Yah, that's what I meant:), and buy myself one.

No, I'm not at all stressed out by any of this.

I"m confused as to why you think Barnstormer FP will be impossible to get if they roll out the MDE ability to get FP on the app??? It's been virtually walk on during every one of our visits in the past year, even without a FP.

Am I stressed?

Sure, maybe a little. More so because I have never planned a Disney trip before and there is quite a bit more to understand than a quick trip to Kings Island where the majority of my planning consists of 1. What time are we heading out in the morning? and 2. Do we drive home that night or get a hotel and drive home in the morning?

But I am trying to come up with an outline for our days, more generalized than a strict be here at this time and don't miss a step. I go into it knowing that the plan will run astray as we stop to smell the roses.

I figure that we have plenty of time once we get there. I have 7 days of park plans and 4 days with no park plans. My saving grace in the stress department in knowing that WHEN my plans go astray (not if but when, lol) and we don't get everything accomplished we can always add a day or two of tickets or save it for the next trip.

So really, while I may try to outline what I want to accomplish, I mainly have a list of a few must do activities. Other than that, the main plan is just go, have a good time, soak up the atmosphere, get some pool time to relax and just know that we are at Disney and not sitting behind a desk at work for DH or me running my booty off answering call lights, cleaning up other people's body fluids, and passing out a zillion medications.

My point there was not that I want a Barmstormer FP (although we would certainly be happy with it) but that even it won't be available. With the changes I don't think there will be any 4th FPs to be had beyond 1:00 or 2:00, not even Barnstormer. Maybe I'm being overly pessimistic, but I feel like having to find a kiosk significantly reduced the number of people getting 4th FPs. Now everyone will do it.

I do think you are being overly pessimistic. Keep in mind that people can still only get one additional FP+ at at time, so it's not going to immediately wipe out all FP+ everywhere for the night. And I think that the vast majority of people didn't know before that they could get at 4th FP+, and won't realize that they can do it on the app now, especially when it's a new feature.
