Disney Store Complaint

They remind me of Kaybee toy stores, rarely stop by any more.

Wow Dan, I didn't want to admit this, but your analogy is all too true at times:(

Did they close all of the Disney Gallery Stores?
We still have Gallery here in Chicago, downtown on Michigan Ave.

They're not having adult sizes bugs me. On our last trip to WDW, we got DS a pair of boxers with a little Mickey embroidered on them. He LOVES those and wanted another pair. Forget TDS! He's in an adult size now. (On his way to being 6'3" according to the pediatrician!) So they've about lost him completely. He now wants Universal's stuff. Pooh is NOT cool to a 9 year old.

Only 5 stores left in the country have collectibles, all other stores that did carry these items do not anymore.

I believe the 5 are located in:

Las Vegas
Natick, Mass.
New York City
California (I'm not sure what store out there)
and
Chicago

You can now order online, they have quite an extensive line and also the catalog will be carrying some collectible items.

Hey Jeff,

Although it is not as big of a selection in the past, the Northpark Disney Store does carry DCC collectibles along with some "gallery" items. They still have the big glass display case with figurines etc. and still offer some cels and pictures.

I too miss the better days at TDS. I still shop for some things for dd occasionally and do DVD preorders etc. but I don't enjoy it anywhere near as much as I used to.

Northpark ok. I remember hearing about a TDS closing at the Galleria , but I wasn't sure if it was a regular TDS or a Gallery Store.

I wish they carried more parks stuff though, especially pre-WDW DL stuff. I about made myself poor getting the die-cast ride cars.

Complain away!! My local TDS turned into Halloween Costume-central about a year ago! Not that it helped any! The prices and accessories are just UNBELIEVABLE for a one-day event and, they're NOT made for Chicago-type weather! Even my DH (non-DIS) asks me why I pass TDS. He's looking for Goofy! I'm looking to avoid! I KNOW the adult clothing is limited to 'get rid of' stuff, if any adult clothes are there at ALL, imo.

Sooooo many good points made here!!

Sorry :( about TDS though! :( It WAS something previously enjoyable and, I miss the original TDS! :(

I will make THIS statement about my nearest TDS ~ They still have the back-of-the-store, all-size plush, surrounding a screen with a Disney movie playing. That's about IT though!

It's NOT the same. :( :(

I actually was kind of disappointed when parks stuff started showing up in the catalogs (don't know if I've ever seen parks stuff in the stores). I've always thought parks merchandise should be limited to the parks (or DTD, but I'm even iffy on that one). I know that most people who buy parks stuff have been there at one time or another, but I kind of see it as false advertising if you're showing off your parks merchandise, and you didn't get it from a park. Just a little silly notion I have. I won't even buy resort merchandise unless I have actually spent a night at the resort. That notion actually is rooted in my feelings about people wearing concert t-shirts for concerts they didn't attend.

Plus, I like the excitement (yes, exciting , because I'm a big nerdy shopper) of seeing new merchandise at WDW that you can't see at your local store.

But, I still want my non-Pooh adult clothes and collectibles!!!

I think that is another long line you have to stand in if you want to complain. ;) :jester:

And of the park mercahndise. It's not THAT special, where you can ONLY buy it in a park now. You can order park merchandise through WDW Merchadise or DelivEARS.
So why not try some out in the stores? :)

Anybody remember when the Las Vegas store had their own collectable T-shirts. It was white or black, Mickey was on the front dressed as a Roman between Roman style columns. The back said "The Disney Store - at the Forum Shops - Las Vegas" What a great idea that was -a crossover souvenir - Disney AND Vegas. The imprint was a rich antique gold color. THAT was merchandising! We have two DSs in San Antonio, one new style, one old style. Everytime we went into the mall I used to buy stuff, now I just pass them by, or I might look for a video or DVD so I don't have to go through the trouble of ordering it. (I like carrying my purchases home with me, rather than waiting by the mailbox.)

TDS on Michigan Ave. here in Chicago had some exclusive merchandise. I bought some pens that had Mickey and Minnie Strolling along Lake Mi. on a windy day CHICAGO was on the other side. I gave them as gifts to CM's at the world. They also had mugs and t-shirts, they offered a Blues Mickey as wel

I don't even mind if they have some park merch that can only be found in the parks, but I think there's plenty of stuff that they could sale at TDS, even stuff they no longer sell at the parks. I'm sure most of us have been in that situation where there were a ton of things we wanted to buy, but since we're on vacation, we had to make the either or choice.

Now, imagine that the one or two things you didn't buy, but really wished you could can be found at your local DS a few months later when you have the money to spend? The bad thing though is it seems like aside from the die-cast vehicles or t-shirts park specific merch is disappearing.

You said that you wouldn't purchase resort merch unless you've spent a night there. Does that mean that once you've stayed (past tense) there buying the resort merch is cool with you? BTW, this isn't debate mode asking, I'm just curious.

I was also convinced that the sales must be dropping rapidly after looking at the Disney Costume store that now exists...:D :D :D I stopped in the other day to say HI to my old manager and mentioned that sales must be low...he said no just the opposite.....He was even one of the management that was really against the change...but he said now that it's working it isn't so bad....except...I had $60 in Gift Certificates...and could only manage to spend $40...including a $20 DVD...never would have had that problem in one of the other type of TDS stores...:( :( :(
