Disney Skyliner (Gondola Transportation System) Read Post 1 Now Open!

I've seen a few, this is the first I found while looking right now. Filmed at the DHS station and it goes back and forth from showing them on the line to showing them coming out of the station:
It looks like that one only shows them leaving the station. I was wanting on showing them move through the station now that they are running a continuous set of them.

actually through the station I have only seen the one with the 3

Being from Oklahoma, it cracks me up when anyone thinks 14 mph is a windy day.
I was thinking the same thing. Here in KS (and specifically in NE where I'm at) 14mph is not a windy day.

Presently the wind is at 10mph but variant up to 15mph and it's just a normal day here.

That said it's at least nice to see the gondolas with some wind going for perspective.

yeah, I think it is more that if they were swinging a lot in 14 MPH that would be a bad case, but I think most days wont' see much more than that so the fact they are not rocking at all is, I think, a good sign

I did see a video in the last week showing them going in and out of the DHS station but can't find it right now...but I did find this one in which Rob explains in detail that there will be power on each gondala that will charge as it goes thru the station for internal lights, music and on board communications ...maybe even video camera's. This guy has really been on top of this system with a lot of knowledge about the inner workings..still a no for A/C
also shows door open and close mechanism.

Please do NOT see him as a guy with a lot of knowledge. His videos are fantastic! His knowledge is a little less so. He is stating things as FACT (lights, music, on board communications) that have not been confirmed by any insiders to my knowledge. I believe he gets most of his information from Robbie Von Roll, and I think his family sold their gondola company to Dopplemayer (sp?) a number of years ago, so that guy does have some knowledge but I'll still take Lift Blog over him any day. Yes, it does appear there will be power running to the gondolas, but we don't know for sure yet just WHAT will be powered on these.

Agreed.

If you agree that they will have power than what will it be used for..A/C ...it takes very, very little power to run led's and sound...

We don't know at this point. Could just be lights, could be an announcement system like the monorails have, could be emergency two way communication, could be music, could be fans to circulate the air, could be one or more of the above. It's definitely not for A/C.

I didn't imply it was for A/C, just that all the other possibilities are possible with a few watts and very low amperage...except the ice cream maker, that's way more amps or muscle,
and that concludes electrical engineering 101..

Exactly. I'd have a lot more respect if he didn't state things as fact when the truth is that we don't KNOW what they're going to do yet. Adding lights, speakers, fans, security cameras, etc... all adds to cost and who knows which things Disney has decided were worth the initial investment? In my opinion, he needs to add more qualifying statements like, "I think" or "I hope" or "I would imagine", when he makes these videos. It's been my biggest irritation with watching him. Maybe it's the former news reporter in me. I can tell he's a super nice guy and loves to share Disney with people, so I really don't enjoy being so direct about my issues with his commenting style.

"We can see they've added power to the gondolas so that would open up the possibilities of having things like interior lighting, speakers, and any number of other options. It'll be fun to see which things Disney has added to these!" That would be a perfectly valid way of stating what we COULD see and perhaps what he would like to see without acting like it's a FACT. Sigh.

I don't know Florida regulations for this type of transportation system, but I think lights and 2 way communication are required on elevators. Disney may have to provide the basics, I just can't see if they spend millions of dollars on this system that it won't have some basics such as light and sound/communications.

Sound/communications would make sense. All other forms of Disney transportation (aside from the small boats) have announcements. Its a captive audience for advertising. I can imagine it now "just ahead is Disney's Riviera Resort. Disney's Riviera Resort is the newest addition to the Disney Vacation Club family. It features rooftop dining at Topolino's Terrace, a mediterranean escape featuring French and Italian flavors. Enjoy character dining for breakfast, or nighttime spectaculars at Epcot and Disney's Hollywood Studios... por favor mantenga alejado de las puertas"

I'm hoping for stealth mode myself, I'd like to be able to actually see out at night. A light while boarding would probably be nice, though.

I doubt 2-way communication is needed on a Gondola. Elevators are self contained operations and the 2-way communication is to let the outside world know that the elevator is stuck and that there are people on it. Gondolas are operated by actual operators and they have communication between the stations to allow them to communicate the last car with people on it.
