Disney Senior Citizens

Hi 5Mandys,
I lost my wife in 2002, We had plans of buying something in the Olando area so that our two sons and grandchildren enjoy WDW for years to come. Unfortunately or fortunately (depending on how I look at it) that didn't happen.
Shortly after I learned about DVC, and immediately realized it was the perfect thing for her to leave to her Grandchildren. I make sure that they go at least once a year. They will each have at least a week at WDW until 2042.

There is nothing to be afraid of going solo, remember it the happiest place on earth. I have been doing 2-3 solo trips a year, and now that I'm no longer working I hope to squeeze in at least one more.

I usually play golf and have met some real nice people doing so, I enjoy resort hopping, some feel uncomfortable about dining alone, I got over that pretty quick, what's great is I always get to choose the restaurant and what time I eat. I will also go to the parks a couple of times each trip, sometimes I will do a favorite ride or two, sometimes just sit on a bench and watch people. I never get bored. I'm not generally an outgoing person but I find it so much easier to talk to strangers at WDW, after all we're all there for the same reason, to have fun. Or sitting at a bar enoying your favorite beverage, it's amazing how fast you're involved in a conversation.

You need to just do it, you'll be surprised at how much you will enjoy yourself being able to do what you want when you want.

Thank you for the encouragement. I guess that I just need to do it! I will work on getting the courage. Thanks again.

That's the spirit.
Maybe someday we'll be there at the same time, I would enjoy meeting other seniors who love Disney as much as I do.

I travel solo sometimes and I love it. I am on my own time to do whatever, and whenever I want. I lost my mate several years ago, and recently retired. I love traveling and don't mind doing it alone. If you don't know about dinning alone, well, take a book or I have taken my "Disney Passporter" with me and planned my next move. Before you know it, its time to get going My family and I started going to WDW when it opened. Its in my blood I guess. Going again in 38 days.

5Mandy's

It would be a great time for any of us who can to get together sometime. I think we would have lots of laughs and good fun. Start thinking of a good time for you to go, we can start there. Are you still working and need to plan around that?

We're not quite seniors but getting there. :goodvibes

I'm in the process of planning/researching a trip in January so DH and I will both be 53. Our last trip there together (I went a year or so ago with my Mom) was in '01 so it's been too long and I really, really want to go again with DH.

Mom was 71 when she and I went, she still loves the parks too.

iT WOULD BE FUN TO GET A GROUP OF SOLO SENIORS ALL THERE AT THE SAME TIME. where in Mass do you live? I grew up in North Reading and have family around there and a son in Northhampton

I would be all for meet up of some kind, I'm just not good at planning those sort of things. But if someone could take the bull by the horns you can count me in.

Here's the dates I'll be at WDW if it helps in planning.
Sept 4-9, 2010 at BCV golfing trip with my son.
Nov 20-26, 2010 at BCV solo
Feb 12-18, 2011 at OKW solo so far
May 28- Jun 4, 2011 at BCV or OKW solo
Sept 3-9, 2011 at BVC or OKW solo
Nov 19-25, 2011 at BCV or OKW solo

Hoping something happens.

I'm not quite senior yet...just turn 54 on Aug 6th. Spent my birthday in Europe :woohoo: Next year I plan to celebrate my 55th in WDW. I lost my husband in 1999 and he loved Disney, it took a while to get the courage to go solo. But now that I have, I love it. I've met so many wonderful ppl from DisMeets, that I'm proud to call my friends. There is a group of us that have turned May and Oct into annual trips. It's great. Most of them are younger then me that they make me feel young. It's wonderful!

Hi all

Looks like eveyone is excited about getting together. I am still working on getting the courage to go solo but am planning on going to WDW in May with my daughter and her friend. It would be nice to plan a meetup then. Hopefully it would be my stepping stone to going solo. Have not set a date but due to work, I can make it after the 15th of May.

I live in Stoneham MA. 12 miles north of Boston and 2 towns south of N. Reading. Small world.

I do hope we can plan a meetup sometime in May.

skeelooch,

Not to take over but that is an extremely busy time down at WDW. Would you or any one be interested in going before memorial weekend? Perhaps the week of the 15th or 22nd. If my plans go well, I will be down there for a full week. Please everyone think it over.

Hi again 5Mandys.

I have been going that week for years, and I don't find it all that busy. But you have to remember I'm not going to do commando style parks and rides, so it really doesn't matter to me if it's crowded or not. I'll be playing golf, visiting resorts, finding quiet pool bars to enjoy a cocktail or two, maybe a couple of hours at Typhoon Lagoon here and there, love the lazy river, I enjoy walking around World Showcase visiting the countries. I'll probably visit another park or two, if there's a ride or attraction I want to do and the wait is reasonable I'll do it. I've done them all many times so if I can't do something then it's no big deal. Sometimes I get an Ice cream and find a nice bench in the shade and watch people and their kids hurrying from place to place, kids crying, and think about how it was when I was in their place. My grandkids are 7-14 so we really don't have any temper tantrums any more, and it's the parents problem to deal with anyway.

Traveling solo to WDW is a whole different experience than being with family, (don't get me wrong I enjoy my family trips more than my solo trips) It is so stress free you don't have to worry about doing anything but what you want to do and when you want to do it. The only stress I get there is when I hit a bad golf shot. You don't have to worry about how crowded it is unless you're a ride junkie, I'm not. Getting to old for all the thrill rides anyway, Soaring is as thrilling as I need.

I don't currently have anything cast in concrete, have only made my reservation for BCV, no flights yet. There is nothing preventing me from changing my plans by a week or two. So let's see if there are any other older kids out there who would like to meet up.

Be Well

Jetsong

I am going to be there Oct 1-5th. My Daughter is running Wine and Dine relay on the 2nd. There is going to be a Dis meet at the Poly on the 3rd at 1:00 if you have arrived by then. it would be great to meet you. I will send you the thread for it. http://http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2524261&highlight=dis+meet

Not really considered a senior, was hoping to spend my 56th at Disney next May, but with free dining, we switched our ressies to the end of May/ begining of Jun instead of the begining of May. So now we will be celebrating my now 22 yr olds 23rd birthday. Bummed, I wanted to celebrate my b'day this year at DL, but that could not happen either.

Keep telling myself it will happen sooner or later.
