Disney Refuses To Fix Their Mistake

I've always been asked for ID when using an AP discount... and I'm 62... I must look suspicious! :lmao:

Sounds more like they are asking for ID from anyone who looks old enough that they could reasonably be expected to have it.

Yes, that's precisely what I meant - just that an 11 year old would be unlikely to have photo ID so therefore they don't bother asking him. I nearly always hand my ID over with my AP to save them having to ask, since I know it is required.

That's not true. Age 14 is the cutoff, per their website:

https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/faq/parks/minimum-age/

Okay, I will clarify, my then 14 year old and then 12 year old were allowed by Disney to be in the parks without any "adult" supervision. I guess Disney then considered my 14 year old was responsible for her younger sibling? Cause they obviously DO know the ages, it is all over the reservations and their AP details, and they did allow entry without an adult.

Just use your AP ticket for discounts, that's what we always do - even though we now have the discount cards, I still planned to use my AP as I figured I would probably have to carry that with me anyway.

So do they give a discount card and the AP? Just wondering. We got AP last fall and just the regular character card. Thanks

A 14 year old is allowed to enter the parks by themselves and/or accompany a guest under 14.

A guest under 14 needs to have someone 14 years or older with them to enter though.

The "discount card" is sent if/when they send MagicBands to AP holders.
(At this time, MB's, alone, won't work for AP discounts, so they also send an ID card for that purpose.)

But, the regular AP card will still work just fine for AP discounts.

When we got our AP (also last fall) we got the RFID card but when we got our Passholder MagicBands, the parking pass and discount card came with those. Have you got your AP MBs yet?

How about this nonsense?

Tweens and teenagers have adult AP's and every time I sent mine with money and their discount cards to shop they were asked for ID. Am I supposed to send them to the parks with their passports?

We had this issue prior to MBs. Our renewal dates were all off kilter & only 11yo "Disney adult" had a pass. There was an incident in the Philharmagic Gift Shop here the CMs were insisting that there was. Problem b/c why would only the child have n AP? They were pretty obnoxious about it & we carried the passport as I'd all week, which was ridiculous, still makes me mad to think about!

I witnessed the flip side of this last summer at the Emporium. A young girl (maybe 13-14 YO) was paying for something, using her AP discount. The cashier took the payment and asked if the girl had photo ID. The girl said no, she didn't. Cashier ran the sale.

Next person in line was an adult AP holder. She paid and showed her AP, and the cashier asked for ID. This woman got all huffy and wouldn't produce it. "You didn't make HER" (pointing at the girl), "so there's no reason to make ME." Cashier was very polite and told her that most kids that age don't have photo IDs, and the woman was all, "That's not the point ... you don't need to see HER ID, you don't need to see mine."

She caused quite a stink and refused to show the cashier her ID. The cashier finally just ran the sale to get the lady out of there. And the woman left saying she was going to "go to Guest Relations and tell them about you!" (pointing to the cashier).

So it sometimes seems like they're damned if they do, damned if they don't.

Since the Ts & Cs state that you have to present photo ID the woman wouldn't have had a leg to stand on. From the Merchandise Discounts page on the AP website:

Merchandise Benefits and Discounts

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

To enjoy your 2014 benefits, you must present your valid Passholder card or Passholder discount card—along with a valid photo ID—at the time of purchase, booking, and/or redemption of any offers. Offers may not be combined with any other certificate, offer or discount. Offers apply to the Passholder only, unless otherwise noted. Offers are subject to change without notice and are subject to availability. 2014 Passholder benefits expire on December 31, 2014. All valid Passes will be subject to the enclosed benefits from January 1, 2014 through December 31, 2014.

Obviously, if you don't have a photo ID (i.e. you are quite clearly under 16) then you can't produce it but most sensible passholders know they are expected to show photo ID when using the pass for discounts and should be prepared to show it. I hate when people use the "it's not fair, they didn't have to" excuse.

My AP MB arrived and there was no discount card in the box even though it said there was. I wasn't worried, but I guess I should give them a call.

I hope the lady wasted some of her vacation time standing in line over at GS over something so silly.

I carry my ID with me just in case.

Maybe putting the birthday on anyone under 18 on the card would help.

We initially received the black cards instead of gold. When I called them, they said they were going to be sending out replacements. That's good. The bad? Our passes were a couple of weeks from expiring. They sent them to us 2 weeks after the expiration date. By then, we had renewed our passes. When you renew, you get an option online to order a new magic band(my set is almost complete), and when the new ones arrived, we had new updated discount cards. Those actually came before the replacement expired ones. The only thing wrong now, is that for whatever reason, my wife can't order a new magic band with her renewal, so she still has the wrong black discount card.
