Disney News, Discussion & an Element of Fun - 2024 Edition

I have the same rule. I did break it this past trip in Oct. withrhe hurricane, but otherwise I want to inclusively live in the bubble. - Ideally just with resort tv, but my youngest loves the same 10 mickey cartoons they play over and over lol.
I have a rule when at WDW that I'm only watching the channels that shows Mickey cartoons or other Disney stuff - no real-world intrusions! I did also allow Stacey and the "Must-Do Must-Do's" but that has been sadly retired.

I add the Weather Channel to see local radar. ☔

Well, I think weather is a reasonable bit of news as that does impact your trip. Obviously, with a hurricane coming to the area, you would need to know that.

I miss Stacey so badly. I still watch her on YouTube from time to time for nostalgia's sake. The new "hey here's what to do at the parks!" on resort tv now is so bland and doesn't have any flavor at all.
I was so sad when they retired Stacey. Seeing her at the start of each day really made it feel like a Disney trip. Now we typically start our day by just leaving the park hours screen on, and end it by watching the Food Network (because clearly we haven't seen enough of food in the parks!)

I guess I'm the odd one out where I don't turn the TV on at all when I'm in a hotel room. I mainly watch Youtube on my phone. Well, actually I had the TV on when I was at the Tokyo Disneyland hotel and I tried to guess what the hell was being advertised to me.
I turn it on, but mostly for that resort soundtrack they place on the welcome screen. Disney is really great at tying sounds to memories and that soundtrack does it for me.

Me and my other half are both 43 and we love them too 🤣

Getting sundaes from the Beaches & Cream to go window and watching them in our PJs is a Yacht/Beach Club tradition at this point!

Yep the Port Orleans one is so good I used the built in music recognition on my phone and saved the song to my jazz playlist. When it plays I think of the resort room.

1966: Thursday

Walter Elias Disney passes away at St. Joseph's Hospital of acute circulatory collapse (caused by lung cancer) just ten days after his 65th birthday.

When the news of Walt's death reaches Disneyland in Anaheim, consideration is given to closing the park for the day, but instead it is kept open (as Walt would have wanted), but the flags on Main Street USA are lowered to half-mast.

On the CBS Evening News With Walter Cronkite, commentator Eric Sevareid states this about Mr. Disney: "He was a happy accident, one of the happiest this century has experienced. And judging by the way it’s behaving, in spite of all Disney tried to tell it about laughter, love, children, puppies, and sunrises, the century hardly deserved him."

That evening Disneyland's Fantasy on Parade (a special presentation for the holiday season) steps off for the first time. An unusually cold night for Anaheim, a somber Disneyland experiences a light snow.

Thanks for the memories. Walt was the first celebrity whose death I mourned, having grown up watching him every Sunday night for ten years. I still miss him!
