Disney News, Discussion & an Element of Fun - 2024 Edition

I wonder if it has to do with the newly announced Cars expansion and Villains Land, even if it seems early to make this move, considering we're still years away from opening (potentially 4 years for Cars, maybe 6 for Villains?).

They might be trying to appease guests wanting more Villain content now, but I suspect there is some marketing or research going on here. The show feedback could give them early insight into future decision making. Could they be testing crowd reactions and enthusiasm for certain villains over others? Trying different villain storylines? Seeing what works and what doesn't, so they know who to focus on in the new land?

I don't know. I assumed the Cars show would have eventually gone away, just not this soon.
They also need new offerings to get people to visit in 2025 and 2026 until the new major attractions begin opening in 2027 with Tropical Americas. New Nighttime Parade @ MK, New Test Track @ Epcot, New Villains Show @ Hollywood Studios and New Zootopia Show @ AK

Crossing my fingers that everyone will rope drop Tron and then I can get on the good rides without a huge wait 🤞
Absolutely my plan for when we rope drop MK on 9/20. We were buying it as a LL and prioritizing Tiana for the VQ anyway, but now I'm hoping this will siphon off the crowd from Space at Early Entry to let us get TL wrapped up.

Still crazy to me this happens before Cosmic Rewind, though I’m not at all complaining about that from a selfish standpoint of getting 2 guaranteed rides with little to no wait (3 on EEH days).

I'm in a different camp where I rode Tron once for the AP preview and have 0 desire to ride it again. It was boring IMO and would rather go on other attractions. Hopefully the majority of the rope drop crowd goes there so I can zig where everyone zags.

I do think it's because Guardians lacks the queue space. That indoor queue can only hold 45-60 mins worth of people and the ride is definitely popular enough to get a wait longer than that.

What is surprising to me is that Tiana is still on the VQ and I know I will get some flack for saying this but I think Disney needs to close it for a bit and resolve the issues. The ride is having multi hour long breakdowns per day. I saw at one point the ride was down for 6-7 hours.

Maybe they’ll do that when we get into winter, since there was usually scheduled downtime for Splash then anyway

I actually really enjoy Tron, but I totally get why people don’t...admittedly a lot of my enjoyment of it comes from nostalgia for the movies. It's not a must do for me the way Cosmic Rewind is though.

Mostly I’m just a bit cranky that yet again my touring strategy for this trip is getting upended.

I don’t mind paying for it since my partner can’t ride it due to health reasons and I’m just paying for myself, but the only reason I would do it on this trip is because I’m genuinely not sure the end of the night strategy will work for us going to EEH on our arrival night. We are not going into MK until after dinner and plan to rest at the resort most of the day because we’ll have come in on an early flight. Idk if we can hang late enough after such a long day. Originally I was going to attempt to just VQ it contingent upon being able to land Tiana on MP when we prebook next week but idek now. At this rate I may just jump in line at the end of the Halloween party.

It would be so hilarious and typical if Tiana came off VQ before Cosmic Rewind did though.I’m pretty sure we’ll still be talking about Cosmic Rewind VQs when Villains Land opens at this point.

Would be a smart move tbh. I know Disney would get negative flack for closing it so soon but they're getting negative flack for the constant hours long down times every day so regardless of what they do they're getting negative press.

Tron's a good ride - not a great ride though. It's a little too short and a little too fast to see a lot of the effects. Still, it has a good energy. It's no Guardians though, which is way more fun.

This is a totally fair assessment and I agree. Tron feels like it’s over just when it’s started to get going. Guardians just blows it out of the water and I think Tron suffered a lot from that comparison. If both rides had come out on the originally scheduled timeframe I don’t think the reception would have been as poor.

idk I feel like Tron suffers in comparison to other similar rides in Orlando. I would ride Hagrid's at IoA over Tron any day of the week. Not using Velocicoaster as a comparison as it's a completely different intensity level.

Not in Orlando but even Cheetah Hunt over at Busch Gardens in Tampa is more fun IMO.

Very curious to see how this goes. Haven't really paid much attention lately but looks like the afternoon BG has been lasting for awhile, looks like there's more demand for Guardians and that one often doesn't last past 2 pm. Yesterday's Tron afternoon VQ lasted until after 5. From that perspective alone it makes sense to remove the VQ for Tron.

I am actually most curious to see the knock on effects on wait times elsewhere in MK, and esp. the split between FL and TL during EE.

Honestly, I feel like it’s past time for Disney to open up all of MK for EE. I just don’t get the logic in limiting it to 2 lands.

Well, I'm sure they are trying to cheap out on staffing, but I agree. It would add more value to have the whole park open. I can understand not opening certain attractions until proper park open, but the major stuff that people want to hit during the extra half-hour should be operating.

I used to love rope dropping the left side of the park in the before times and when they first reopened, you could get so much done because everyone beelined FL and TL. Sometimes I would do Big Thunder like 2 or 3 times even the waits were so low, even after doing everything else over there.

Oh yeah, I've always been a "clockwise" guy. Just go in, hit the JC, Pirates, Thunder (possibly a few times), and Splash. That could easily be done in the first hour.
