RUMOR:

Walt Disney World Planning to Charge Hotel Guests for Daily Housekeeping Services

As of March 2022, the following resort hotels have resumed their daily or regularly scheduled housekeeping services:
  • Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge
  • Disney’s Boardwalk Resort
  • Disney’s Contemporary Resort
  • Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa
  • Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort
  • Disney’s Wilderness Lodge Resort
  • Disney’s Yacht & Beach Club Resorts
  • Disney’s Riviera Resort
  • Disney’s Old Key West Resort
  • Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa

As you might notice, the above does not include anything below a Deluxe Resort level or Disney Vacation Club Resort.

There is still a shortage of housekeeping cast members and there has been a constant slew of job fairs to try to fill the vacant positions. According to people we spoke to who attended a job fair this weekend, they were told by a Disney recruiter that “Disney is moving towards room service being offered every other day as the standard.” The recruiter went on to state that guests who want the additional, daily housekeeping service could pay to add it. This is something that is already offered to Disney Vacation Club members staying in villa accommodations.

Given the list above, it is assumed that the Deluxe Resort guests will receive daily housekeeping services included with their stay, but again, that is purely speculation at this point based solely on it already having returned to those hotels. Anything below this level would likely be subject to the daily charge.
It's just a rumor, but I would be a bit surprised if this comes true. The excuse given for the parking fees was that it was "industry standard" to charge one. That's just not the case with housekeeping.

I would not be surprised if they floated this rumor to see the reaction though.

If this comes true I wonder if it will automatically be added in like parking fees or you can opt out like you used to be able to do pre pandemic (for a gift card at that)

For us as long as it’s cleaned throughly between us/the last party and we are able to call the front desk for extra towels when needed we are all adults and are capable of making our own bed, emptying trash and regularly Lysol Wiping surfaces throughout our stays

I reached out to Unite Here 737's leadership about this via Twitter. If I hear back, I will let you know. Also worth mentioning the two articles below...

They can naff off if it's added automatically added. If true, this nickle and diming in gettting further out of hand.

They need to go back to the gc if you opt out then. But considering they got away with nothing during covid I doubt they will. I'd rather not have anyone in my room than pay extra for it. If it's a matter of staffing vs budget then the gc need to come back and some of their issues will be solved.

Hi, Disney decision makers! If you’re reading this, which I do hope you are, please understand that you will further anger an already jaded, disillusioned, fed up fan base by asking them to pay for housekeeping. You’ve shown that the parks are making money, so pay enough to housekeeping to make them want to be in the industry. Deluxe resorts are already beyond high and most people can’t swing for them, especially those of us who are repeat visitors. If you add a housekeeping fee- you may well be pricing out even more people from moderate resorts. There are also those that can afford it, but simply won’t stay on the principal of the matter. I understand this is a rumor, but please please please see what a terrible idea this is. Revenge travel is real and it is for a limited time. Take a look at the long game.

I thought Covid was going to burst the "Disney bubble"...all it did was give management carte blanche to implement all the cost cutting, service cutting, "take stuff away" things they've been itching to do for years but couldn't get away with.

It's disgusting.
