I understand your frustration, and I would be upset as well. It is their error and they should have to correct it. I would stand my ground too, and get as much as I could. However, there are things to consider.
1. Unfortunately they don't have to even offer you a peferred room. The fine print says in the event a resort is overbooked you will be moved to a room of greater or equal value. And that is what they have done.
2. If this mistake really involves over a hundred people, they may not be able to upgrade you to a moderate or deluxe. This close to travel time they could be booked.
All that being said though, I would try to milk them some more and then I would ask for other things like front of the line passes, upgraded park tickets, additional days or ask them to upgrafe your dining plan. All the things I said won't cost them a penny and they are more likely to accommodate. My wife and I got stuck on splash mountain for an hour and 45 min three years ago, were yelled at as we evacuated and then all they gave me was a fp to be used the next day. At gs they gave us 3 each. Then when I asked if he could do anything else and then requested a free park ticket for another day, he did it. 2 ph tickets that didn't expire for 30 years. We will be using them this year.
Anyway I know it stinks but you won't have a worse time as the resorts just really aren't that different, plus you are not going for the hotel anyway. Get the pv and ask to be placed near the main building so you'll be closer to the bus stop or by the pool if you rather. Enjoy your trip.
